Chapter 1065 Lost Contact
"Henry, help me!" Lola screamed, shielding her head and face as she yelled in the hospital room. "Henry, hurry! Melanie's gone nuts!"
Melanie, even more enraged, aimed the thin heel of her shoe at Lola's head.
The next second, the heel didn't make contact. Instead, Henry caught it.
"Henry, where were you?" Lola immediately clung to Henry, crying pitifully. "I was so scared I'd never see you again."
Melanie was disgusted by her display.
"What the hell are you doing?" Henry glared at Melanie, who seemed completely irrational. He had just stepped out to handle some paperwork, and in the blink of an eye, chaos erupted.
What infuriated him more was that the two servants and two nurses in the ward hadn't intervened. When he walked in, he saw Melanie frantically attacking Lola with a high heel!
Melanie pointed the heel at him. "Mom's life is hanging by a thread, and as her son, do you even care? This bitch caused it! Why shouldn't I hit her? She shamelessly wants to marry into the Hall family! Shouldn't she pay for her disgrace? The little pain she's feeling now is nothing compared to what Mom's going through!"
"Henry, let's not get engaged. I can't bear this heavy responsibility anymore," Lola sobbed, looking pitiful in her wheelchair. "I want your mom to live a long, healthy life more than anyone. Melanie has misunderstood me. Your mom's heart attack was something none of us wanted."
"Stop pretending in front of me," Melanie snapped, itching to hit her again.
"Enough!" Henry shouted, his patience wearing thin. "Get out."
Lola felt a surge of dissatisfaction. That crazy woman had hit her so many times, and Henry wasn't going to do anything about it? Just let her go?
Sure enough, Henry was still biased towards his family!
Melanie stormed out, fuming.
Henry immediately knelt to check on Lola. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
"Henry," Lola began to complain about her ordeal, but before she could continue, Melanie, who had pretended to leave, suddenly hurled two high heels at her. One struck Lola's head, the other her face.
Blood poured from Lola's nose, her mouth swelled, and her teeth bled.
"Melanie!" Henry turned to scold her, but Melanie, barefoot, held her head high and walked out of the ward with dignity.
"What are you all standing around for? Help Lola with her injuries!" Henry angrily demanded of the nurses.
The two nurses snapped out of their daze and rushed to assist.
Lola wanted to cry, but couldn't open her mouth. It hurt too much. Damn Melanie, attacking her like that!
Meanwhile, "Ms. Medici, I've got some info," Sam reported over the phone. "Your uncle and aunt's companies are in trouble, likely caused by someone codenamed Scorpion. We don't know much about Scorpion yet, but we found out he'll be at an auction in the suburbs tonight at six."
"Let's check it out," Abella replied calmly. She wanted to see who Scorpion was associating with and gather more clues.
"Ms. Medici," Sam reminded her, "don't forget you have dinner with Mr. Bourbon at seven."
Abella had almost forgotten. "I'll let him know. We'll hit the auction first, then the dinner."
"I'll pick you up," Sam said, then added, "I've created a distraction to keep your uncle and aunt from discovering Scorpion, but it won't last long. We need to get useful info from him quickly."
"Got it," Abella said, hanging up and changing into casual clothes.
At 5:30 PM, Sam arrived to pick her up.
They drove to an abandoned factory in the suburbs, the likely location of the auction.
The factory looked eerie from the outside, like it could be haunted at any moment.
The weather was bad, and by 5:30 PM, it was already dark and ominous.
Just then, Abella received a call from her college friend, Samuel.
"Abella, have you heard from Josie? I sent her a bunch of messages and called her a ton last night, but she hasn't responded."
Sam pointed to his watch, indicating they were running out of time. It was already six.
Abella nodded for him to go ahead.
Sam put the entry wristband on Abella's right wrist and went inside.
"I think something's wrong. She wouldn't just disappear. Arthur called me too, saying Joanna went missing last night. Her family said she and Josie went on a trip, but they didn't tell us."
Samuel's voice grew more anxious. "They wouldn't just leave without telling us."
"Did you have a fight?" Abella asked softly.
"No, we all went to the amusement park yesterday. Josie said she had to go home for a family dinner, so I dropped her off at the alley. Her family was on the balcony, so I didn't walk her in. When I got home, I texted and called her, but she didn't respond."
"Joanna also went home for dinner. Arthur saw her into her building, but she went missing too. We checked the surveillance around their homes but found nothing."
The lack of clues only made Samuel and Arthur more worried.
"Don't panic. I'll have someone investigate. We'll find them soon."
"Thanks, Abella."
As Abella ended the call, a car's headlights suddenly shone on her.
She squinted and saw a stranger get out of the car, wearing a black mask. He held a weapon in one hand, ready to fire, and a phone in the other, showing a photo.
Josie and Joanna were tied up, their faces bruised.
