Chapter 1046 Settling Accounts in Person
Henry silently endured Whitney's fury, waiting until she finished her tirade before calmly saying, "Mom, don't get so worked up. I really love her. I just want to be with her for the rest of my life."
"Why can't you like someone else? With your status, you can have any woman you want! Even if you fell for a kind-hearted beggar, I wouldn't stop you. But look at Lola! Is she even human? I knew she was trouble the moment I saw her in Verdania!"
"Mom, don't insult her." Henry couldn't stand hearing anyone speak ill of Lola, even if it was his own mother.
"I'm at the office right now and have some things to handle. Calm down, and I'll find time tonight to talk this over with you."
Whitney's chest heaved with anger, and she spoke through gritted teeth, "If you're planning to brainwash us, don't bother. I'll tell the media myself that I don't approve of this daughter-in-law. I will never let her into the Hall family!"
She ended the call in a rage and collapsed onto the couch.
"Mom, are you okay?" Melanie was terrified. She quickly found a bottle of medicine, poured out a pill, and brought a glass of water. "Take your medicine, don't get so worked up. Lola isn't worth it."
Whitney was so furious she couldn't even hold the cup. In the end, Melanie had to help her take the pill.
"Melanie," Whitney said, trying to calm herself as she stood up shakily. "Come with me to the estate. I need to talk to this woman myself!"
"Okay." Melanie hurried to support her. "But please, don't get angry. You might end up in the hospital before we even get there. Don't worry, I won't let her into our family. Just calm down and take deep breaths."
Melanie still remembered how Lola had behaved at a high-end clothing store on Riviera Avenue in Verdania. She had repeatedly ordered the sales clerk to take a dress from Abella, only to be thrown out when it turned out Abella had connections.
No one on Riviera Avenue would sell to her after that, and she stood outside the store, cursing the sales clerk, calling them all sorts of names.
Melanie was too embarrassed to repeat the vulgar insults Lola had used. It was utterly disgraceful.
The worst part was that after cursing the clerk, Lola had a satisfied smirk on her face.
She kept saying, "Do you know who I am? Do you know how much I spent at the last store? Do you know who Beckett is?"
It was humiliating and low-class.
Later, when Melanie accompanied her parents to look at property near Serene Vista Haven, she noticed Henry's car parked there. She didn't tell her parents and went to check it out herself, only to find Henry taking Lola on a date in the lavender fields.
Lola had seen Phillipe's grand romantic gestures for Abella—booking the entire place, composing music, making a public declaration, arranging a hot air balloon ride, and hiring photographers.
She took out her frustration on Henry, accusing him of not being romantic or creative enough, and not surprising her like other fiancés.
It was beyond excessive.
Later, her mother, Whitney told her something that made her even angrier. Lola had not only insulted the sales clerk on Riviera Avenue but had also run into Whitney without knowing who she was. She had rudely insulted Whitney and used Henry's gold card to buy everything Whitney had her eye on, spending millions of dollars.
Therefore, Melanie had no good impression of Lola at all!
Knowing she wasn't the real daughter of the Medici family and that her original family wasn't as well-off as the Hall family, she still acted so outrageously because of Henry's affection for her.
If someone like that married into the Hall family, it wouldn't just ruin Henry's future; it could destroy the Hall family's future as well.
Even when she was still considered the Medici family's daughter, she loved to bully Henry and max out his credit cards.
If she really married into the family, it would be a disaster.
Her brother Henry had always been a model student, excelling in his studies, handsome, smart, and upright. He could have any woman he wanted.
In the past six months, Lola's actions towards Abella had been exposed by Kimberly at the homecoming party. Kimberly had raised her for eighteen years, and the Medici family had treated her so well, yet she showed no gratitude and repeatedly tried to harm Abella.
How could someone like that be allowed into the Hall family?
The Medici family couldn't warm her heart in eighteen years, so how could the Hall family?
With these thoughts, she helped Whitney into the car, and half an hour later, they arrived at the estate.
Whitney was already fuming at the sight of the estate's name, but she kept telling herself to stay calm.
Lola, being served by the maid Briar, was enjoying some sweets in the living room, in a very good mood.
At that moment, Celestia rushed in, saying, "Ms. Flores, Mrs. Hall and Ms. Hall are here. They look pretty angry, and I think they're here for you."
Lola smirked. She had just told Henry an hour ago that she wanted to get engaged, and now the Halls couldn't wait to confront her?
They were quick.
Lola pretended to be worried. "Henry just told me he wanted to get engaged and said he would inform his family. They must have disagreed and come to talk to me, probably to make me leave Henry. The public opinion about me isn't great right now. If they don't like me because of that and want to force me to leave..."
She looked genuinely concerned. "I heard Henry's mom has a heart condition. If she gets too emotional and has an attack, and then tells Henry I bullied her, I won't be able to explain myself. Briar, Celestia, you're the only ones who can help me now!"
She grabbed the hands of the two maids, pleading sincerely, "If anything happens, you need to record it to prove I didn't bully them. And call Henry to come home. I'm in a wheelchair now; I can't handle them on my own."
The two maids nodded nervously and sympathetically. Celestia went to make the call.
Briar was about to push Lola to greet them when, unexpectedly, the two women walked in.
"Hello, Mrs. Hall. Hello, Ms. Hall." Lola greeted them with a gentle, kind smile.
But Whitney and Melanie, seeing her in a wheelchair, couldn't understand what Henry saw in her.
She used to have a bit of a wealthy heiress aura, wearing expensive clothes and jewelry, looking elegant and poised. But now, she looked like an ordinary person.
How could someone like that enter their Hall family?
