Chapter 724 It Hurts a Lot
"Ms. Abella Medici's gotta have a way. I'll go get her!" The servant was about to dash off when Lola cut him off, sternly. "By the time you get back, my grandpa will either be in too much pain or frozen solid. Let's see if he can stand up first, then we'll talk inside."
She didn't want to look like a fool in front of Abella.
And she definitely didn't want to give Abella a chance to show off!
"I'm fine," David grunted, not wanting Lola to stress. He tried to get up, his back screaming in pain. He yelped a few times, but with Lola and the servant's help, he finally managed to stand.
In the study.
Caleb asked Abella softly, "How'd you dig up the dirt on those old events?"
Some of that stuff was from months, even years ago. It was wild that Abella could find proof of Ulysses and Derek scheming against her grandparents.
Abella shrugged, "Honestly, I just eavesdropped on the servants at Uncle Caleb's place. Only a few folks knew about my grandparents' trips. I got their names and kept tabs on them. Later, I hacked Gino's phone, pulled his chat logs, and pieced together the timeline and contacts."
"You can hack phones too?" Caleb was shocked but nodded. "Of course, you could even take down so many security cameras. A phone's nothing for you."
Caleb chuckled. "Abella, you keep blowing my mind. You've got a bright future ahead."
"Uncle Caleb, you're too kind."
"How was your grandpa's mood in the OR last night?" Caleb couldn't help but ask.
"Disappointed, heartbroken, and pissed," Abella summed up. "But he eventually came to terms with it."
"Good to hear." Caleb sighed in relief. "After he called you to his room last night, I was worried his emotional state might mess with his health."
Abella was straight-up, "He was definitely not well, had a headache and was super irritable. I gave him a few treatments, and he knocked out."
"Thank goodness for you." Caleb looked at Abella with appreciation. "So much has been dumped on your shoulders lately. This family owes you big time, and now we still need your help with everything."
"Uncle Caleb, you're too kind. I'm happy to do my part for this family."
"Now that things have calmed down, once I wrap up a few things, I'll take you out for some fun."
Abella smiled. "No need, Uncle Caleb. You should spend more time with Aunt Bonnie. Phillipe will take me out."
Caleb was momentarily stunned, then laughed. "So you have plans. I've been keeping you here for so long, holding up your date. Go have fun with him today, don't worry about the family. I'll make sure your grandpa's well taken care of."
"With you and Aunt Bonnie here, I'm not worried." Abella smiled. "If there's nothing else, I'll be off."
She didn't want to keep Phillipe waiting.
"Alright, have fun." Caleb looked at Abella with satisfaction. "Remember to bring Phillipe over sometime. I'd like to meet him and see how he treats you. Your wedding is coming up."
Before Caleb could finish, Abella cut in, "We haven't nailed that down yet."
"You already got an engagement, and Phillipe chased you all the way from Libertya to Verdania. How's that not a done deal? As long as you say the word, it can happen anytime." Caleb laughed heartily.
"Uncle Caleb, you're just messing with me. I'm outta here," Abella said, not noticing the slight blush and sweet smile on her face.
It was the first time Caleb had seen Abella with such an expression. His smile deepened as he watched her leave, thinking to himself, 'Phillipe's one lucky guy to have Abella.'
After heading downstairs, Abella sent her location to Phillipe. Before she could even ask him to pick her up, Phillipe replied instantly. Phillipe: [I'll be there in twenty minutes.]
A smile crept onto Abella's lips. Abella: [No rush, I gotta check on my grandpa first.]
She needed to make sure David was okay before she could leave.
Phillipe: [Alright. Take your time.]
As Abella approached David's room, she caught a faint whiff of medicinal ointment. A servant came out, startled to see Abella suddenly appear. "Ms. Abella Medici."
"My grandpa got hurt? Applied some ointment?"
Hearing Abella's question, the servant replied, "Yes, Mr. David Harris fell."
Abella hurried inside.
At that moment, Bonnie, who was still on the phone, rushed over. She had seen Lola pulling David while she was on the phone by the third-floor window, causing him to fall.
She followed Abella into the room, her face heavy with concern.
The servant knew she couldn't hide it any longer. Although Lola had repeatedly told her not to mention what happened, if Abella found out something was wrong during her check-up, the servant would be in trouble for not reporting it.
Thinking this, the servant gritted her teeth and ran upstairs to find Caleb.
Abella walked quickly, passing through the lounge and dressing room to the master bedroom. She saw David lying on the bed, looking pained, with Lola sitting by the bed, at a loss for what to do.
"Grandpa, you fell? What happened?" Abella hurried over and noticed his clothes were still wet.
"Abella, you're here." David couldn't move from the pain. "I just accidentally fell."
"You fell outside?"
David was surprised by Abella's question. "How did you know?"
Lola looked guilty and nervous, avoiding Abella's eyes.
"Your clothes are wet. It's freezing outside. What were you doing out there?" Abella then looked at Lola. "His clothes are soaked, and you didn't get him changed?"
"He said he was in pain, so we didn't dare move him."
Afraid of dislocating bones or causing more trouble.
"It's nothing, I was just taking a walk," David said, but couldn't help frowning from the pain.
Abella touched him gently. "Does it hurt here?"
"Yes, very much." David's expression twisted in pain.
"Let me check." Abella gently lifted his shirt, and even this slight movement made David gasp in pain.
"Does it hurt here?" Abella asked after a light touch.
"Yes."
"And here?" Abella observed David's reaction.
"Very painful."
