Chapter 553 Someone Had Your Back

Abella was waiting for them to pack up, scrolling through her phone when someone bumped into her shoulder.

A girl in a black dress, surrounded by friends, passed by and snapped, "Are you blind?"

"Oh, look, it's Abella. Better watch out; she knows how to use a scalpel. Wouldn't want her to cut us," the girls laughed.

Abella glared. "Apologize."

Jessica Samantha crossed her arms. "My shoulder hurts from you bumping into me, and you want me to apologize?"

The other girls chimed in, "She thinks she's special because a few professors noticed her. But no matter how good she is at medicine, she'll just be a doctor. Unlike you, Jessica."

"Yeah, one of Magnolia's works in your house is worth more than her lifetime salary."

"Jessica, some people never see a real Magnolia piece. Why don't we show it to her today?"

Jessica, eager to brag, unlocked her phone, showing a lock screen of Magnolia's calligraphy piece, "Sandhill Crane."

"It's beautifully written. Only deserves to hang in your house."

"Jessica, you said this piece costs five million dollars, right? If someone earns two thousand a month, they'd have to save for 21 years without spending a penny to afford it."

"Jessica, your family is really wealthy."

Abella looked at them, unimpressed. "Cut the crap. Apologize."

"Are you deaf? Do you know who Jessica is? Can you even handle her apology?"

"Do you think a family that can afford Magnolia's works is ordinary? Back off."

"Force is mutual. Jessica's shoulder hurts too! She didn't even ask you to apologize."

Just then, Joanna, who had finished packing, ran over angrily. "How can you be so shameless! What does your family's collection have to do with apologizing? You bumped into someone, so you should apologize. Otherwise, I'll report you to Innovation University for your bad behavior."

"What's your deal?" Jessica looked annoyed.

"And you said you have Magnolia's work. I'm a fan of Magnolia. 'Sandhill Crane' by Magnolia doesn't look like that. This piece isn't by Magnolia at all! I don't know what you're showing off for, treating a fake as real and being so proud of it."

Abella was a bit surprised to hear this from Joanna. She could tell the difference?

Although Abella knew from the start that Jessica's "Sandhill Crane" was fake, she didn't bother to expose her.

But she didn't expect Joanna, a superfan, to be the first to stand up.

"Just because you've seen a few of Magnolia's works online, you think you can talk big? This piece was bought by my mom from a close friend. It was a gift from Magnolia to that friend. You must know her; her name is Calliope."

Everyone was shocked.

"So it's the famous director Calliope."

"Your mom's friend is amazing, a big director."

"Calliope would never sell a fake to Jessica's mom."

Joanna snapped, "Magnolia's brushwork is bold and free, like a frost-covered forest or a waterfall in flight. This piece clearly lacks the fullness of ink and isn't well-formed."

Jessica was annoyed. "As if you've seen the real thing. If you can't prove it today, I'll sue you for slander."

"Although I haven't seen the real thing, I know this isn't Magnolia's work. If you don't believe me, we can send it to an authentication agency!" Joanna was confident in her knowledge of Magnolia's brushwork.

"Jessica, don't get mad at her. We think this calligraphy looks very authentic, not like a fake!"

"Can a fake be this good?"

"Some people think that just because they've seen a few of Magnolia's works, they can spot a fake. What a joke."

"This piece was given by Magnolia to a highly respected elder, and that elder is not Calliope," Abella said, surprising everyone. How did she know?

At that moment, an elderly man walked over with a smile. "What are you all talking about?"

Everyone turned to look and quickly greeted, "Mr. Thompson."

Kenneth, the president of Innovation University, had heard Abella was leading a team for a competition and wanted to chat with her. He hurried to the backstage and was relieved to see her still there.

"Mr. Thompson, you're just in time. You must know Magnolia's works well. These two students insist that the piece my family owns is fake. Please judge for us," Jessica said, sounding a bit aggrieved.

Abella and Joanna were speechless. It was clearly fake, yet she treated it like a treasure.

"Mr. Thompson, you don't know. This piece was sold to Jessica's family by the famous director Calliope. But Abella says it was given by Magnolia to a highly respected elder, who is not Calliope."

"Some people can't stand others having good things and have to smear them."

"Exactly!"

Joanna stomped her foot anxiously. "That's not it, Mr. Thompson. They bumped into Abella and didn't apologize, then started showing off their Magnolia collection. Magnolia's brushwork is strong and powerful, unlike what they have. If you don't believe me, take a look."

"No need to look," Kenneth said gently, "There's nothing to see."

Joanna's heart sank. 'Is he going to be biased towards his students?'

Jessica and the other girls, hearing this, felt emboldened and became even more arrogant.
