Chapter 700 Caleb's Concern

Lola was freaking out in that sack. She wanted to beg for mercy but was scared her uncle and aunt would recognize her voice. If they found out what she did to Abella, they might start hating her, just like her brothers did.

Even worse, they might despise her.

"Alright, chill out, don't get all worked up," Caleb patted Bonnie's shoulders to calm her down and then asked, "Where's Abella?"

"I sent her back first."

"Does she know you're here?"

"I'll tell her."

Caleb reached out and touched Bonnie's face. "Look how mad you are."

Bonnie couldn't help but laugh at his teasing.

Caleb asked, all lovey-dovey, "Did you buy anything cool today?"

"Yeah, the new season's stuff is pretty sweet."

"What'd you get for Abella?"

"Clothes, shoes, purses. I'll take her to get some jewelry another day."

"Why didn't you use my card?"

He'd been waiting all day but didn't get any bank notifications.

Bonnie smiled. "A measly six million dollars, I can handle that."

"And what about you? Didn't you get anything for yourself?" Caleb added.

"Abella got me a ton! The whole trunk is packed with stuff she gave me," Bonnie said, her smile beaming.

"Look how happy you are." Caleb smiled along with her.

"That's my niece's thoughtfulness," Bonnie said, adjusting his collar. "There are a few things in there she got for you too."

Caleb was a bit surprised and pleased. "I get something too?"

"Of course, Abella is very fair."

"Is it formal wear?"

"Yeah, formal shirts and ties," Bonnie said, lovingly looking at him after fixing his collar.

"Let's pick up Lola and then head home to check it out," Caleb said, putting his arm around Bonnie's shoulder and glancing at the sack on the ground. "As for her fate, we'll leave it to God."

Bonnie didn't bother with her either and walked away with Caleb.

Listening to their footsteps gradually fade away until the car drove off, Lola didn't dare move. A few minutes later, after confirming no one was coming back, she started crying for help.

At this time, a nearby fruit store was closing. An employee taking out the trash saw a sack on the ground with someone inside crying for help. She was startled and quickly untied the rope at the sack's opening.

Lola finally saw the outside world. Big snowflakes were falling. She took a while to adjust to the light and heard a phone ringing continuously on the ground.

The employee saw blood at the corner of her mouth, and she was dirty, with stains from alcohol and dirty water.

What the heck happened?

"Are you okay?" The employee saw she was a girl and probably not a bad person. She picked up the phone from the ground and handed it over. "Is this yours? How did you end up in a sack? If you're okay, you should go home quickly."

Lola didn't know how long she had been in a daze. Until the employee left and the phone rang again, she finally snapped out of it and saw "Uncle Caleb" on the screen but didn't dare answer.

Sitting in the car, Caleb called Lola three times, but she didn't pick up. He was a bit worried. "Could something have happened?"

"You said she called you for help, saying she was being bullied?" Bonnie asked.

"Yeah." Caleb was worried Lola might be in danger. Just as he was about to have someone investigate, his phone rang.

It was Lola calling!

Right then, Lola tried hard to stand up, leaning against the wall, forcing a smile, and softly said, "Uncle Caleb, no need to pick me up. My boyfriend just got here and took me back to the hotel. I just got out of the shower."

Caleb was relieved but also a bit surprised. "When did you get a boyfriend?"

"It's a long story," Lola didn't elaborate but sweetly teased, "I'll tell you when we meet tomorrow."

"You said on the phone that you were being bullied? What happened? Did you have a fight with your boyfriend?" Caleb asked, concerned.

"No." Lola didn't want to tarnish Henry's image. After all, Henry was already worse than Phillipe. If she tarnished him further, he would be even less comparable to Phillipe.

She had to lie, "My boyfriend's been busy with work in Verdania for a long time. He said he missed me but couldn't leave, so he wanted me to come see him."

Lola could feel the pain all over her body, but she forced herself to stand, smiling. "I think I haven't seen Grandpa and Uncle Caleb for a long time, especially since I heard Aunt Bonnie was back. I can't hold back and want to visit you. I want to surprise you."

Lola's legs hurt so much she could barely stand. She had to change her posture to barely support herself.

She added, "Because Grandpa hasn't recovered yet, and Aunt Bonnie just came back, I know Uncle Caleb is very busy. I don't want to distract you, so I plan to stay at the hotel for a night and visit you tomorrow. But unexpectedly, as soon as I arrived in Verdania, while waiting for my boyfriend by the roadside, some thugs harassed me."

Caleb frowned slightly. "Thugs? What did they do to you? Do you remember what they looked like?"

Lola was afraid Caleb would check the surveillance and find out there were no thugs, but instead discover she was the one who bullied Abella and got beaten up and put in a sack.

So she lied, "Actually, it is nothing. They just whistled at me and said some dirty words. I've never seen such people before and got scared. Maybe they saw me crying and lost interest, so they left."

Caleb seemed a bit uneasy. "Nothing else happened?"

"No, Uncle Caleb, don't worry. I've adjusted my mindset. Please don't tell my parents about this. I'm eighteen now and should try to face this complex world. If you tell them secretly, they won't let me go out alone next time."

Caleb was relieved and didn't ask more, "Alright, as long as you're okay. I promise not to tell."

Lola's nose suddenly felt sour, and she had the urge to cry.

"Which hotel are you staying at? Send me the address, and I'll have someone pick you up tomorrow," Caleb said.

Lola hadn't found a hotel yet, so she smiled and said, "No need, Uncle Caleb. I still want to spend some time alone with my boyfriend. I don't know when I'll be free to visit you. You don't have to come pick me up. My boyfriend will send someone to take me."

"Then rest early. Knowing you're okay, I'm relieved. If anything happens, call me," Caleb said gently, "I'm glad you thought of me and called me. Next time, if anything happens, come to me, okay?"

"Okay." Lola's voice choked up, her nose feeling very sour. "Uncle Caleb, you and Aunt Bonnie rest early too."

"Alright." Caleb was finally relieved and hung up.
