Chapter 945 Less Than Two Hours

When the group saw the photos Dennis sent, they couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy. If only Abella could send them some clothes, too.

But they didn't want Abella to overwork herself designing clothes, nor did they want her to spend too much money.

Steven: [How'd you convince Abella to do this?]

Ethan: [You actually got Abella to spend money?]

Winston: [Now you see how awesome Abella is?]

Blake: [Abella and I used to wear matching shoes!]

Dennis could sense the jealousy in their voices, which made him even happier. He pulled a jacket out of the bag and put it on, then asked Louie how it looked.

Seeing Dennis so happy, Louie didn't need to guess. The clothes were either picked out by Abella or gifted by her.

"Mr. Medici, this jacket looks like it was made just for you. It looks way better than your usual style. Ms. Medici's designs are truly something else."

At least it made him look less mischievous and more composed and handsome.

"It looks great, really great!" Louie was genuinely praised. He hadn't expected this side of Dennis, which he hadn't noticed before.

Dennis smiled, "Of course, just look at who designed it and who gave it to me!"

He happily patted Abella's head, "From now on, you're in charge of all my seasonal wardrobe changes!"

He thought about giving her a no-limit credit card like Phillipe did, ostensibly for buying clothes but really for her to spend as she pleased.

"Okay." Abella smiled, her eyes softening.

Meanwhile, in a dimly lit basement, Lola struggled to open her eyes, seeing that it was already dark outside. She weakly closed her eyes again, and after a while, managed to open them slightly.

She was utterly exhausted, her body felt drained, and she had no strength left, just an empty shell.

She was dizzy, thirsty, and desperately wanted water.

When she woke up in the afternoon, she found herself lying in some puddles of water, remnants of the ice water Dennis had ordered to be poured on her from the fountain pool last night. Most of it had dried up.

She hadn't expected to lie on the cold ground for so long, nor had she expected her family to be so heartless this time, not caring whether she lived or died.

All afternoon, her survival instinct drove her to crawl to the door, weakly knocking and hoarsely calling out, "Water, give me water..."

But no one responded.

She didn't know how long she had been calling, her mouth dry as if it were on fire, her throat burning. She didn't know when she had passed out, and now that she was awake, still no one had given her a drop of water, not even a glance.

Tears of despair slid down her cheeks, leaving streaks.

Maybe because of dehydration, even her tears were fewer than before. After two streaks, no more tears came out.

She was so thirsty, she wanted water so badly.

She didn't want to die here.

She looked at the closed door, knowing that just beyond it was an elevator that would take her to the first-floor living room. Maybe everyone was there right now.

They used to laugh and joke together in the living room.

Those times were so wonderful.

But now, everything had changed.

She didn't even have the strength to crawl to the door, which was only a few steps away, but felt like a century's distance.

She forced her eyes open, seeing the moon hanging in the sky, remembering how her family used to gather for every holiday, eating, drinking, and chatting.

Those times were so happy.

Her family was kind to her, she was the most cherished daughter.

But everything changed when Abella came back!

After a while, she took in the cluttered room, filled with various items. In the corner, several new plastic basins were stacked together.

The top basin still had some of the ice water that had been used to wake her up yesterday.

Though it was just a little, and from the fountain pool.

Her survival instinct drove her to crawl towards it, eventually lowering her head to drink all the water in the basin.

The fountain water was the same quality as the tap water at home.

But being outdoors, it had some melted snow in it and hadn't been boiled, so it tasted different.

But Lola had no choice. She didn't want to die, so she had to save herself by drinking the water.

She didn't know how long it had been when she heard the voices of the servants outside.

"The doctor said she wouldn't last 24 hours, and now there's less than 2 hours left. Should we remind Mrs. Medici, so she doesn't die in the house?"

So, she was going to die?

Lola hadn't expected to have less than two hours left. She felt a pang of sadness.

Was her life really going to end like this?

She didn't want to die, but she was too weak to even call for help.

"Mrs. Medici said to let her fend for herself, unless Jacob shows up. Otherwise, whether she lives or dies doesn't matter."

"But if she keeps starving like this, death is inevitable, especially since she's so sick. I think Mrs. Medici wants her to die."

"She brought this on herself by doing such terrible things to Ms. Medici. She has no one to blame but herself. Besides, Jacob isn't coming to save her."

"Mr. Hall is the only one who cares, but by the time he finds Jacob, Lola might already be dead. It's been quiet in there for a while now, it's creepy at night."

Lola hadn't expected Kimberly, who used to love and spoil her, to order her to fend for herself.

How heartless did she have to be to do this?

She hadn't expected that in this dire situation, only Henry still cared about her, wanting to save her.

Her eyes welled up again, but no tears came out; her heart twisted in pain.

If it were before, a sneeze or a cough from her would have made her family worry. The family doctor would have appeared in no time, with the best medicine, and her family wouldn't let her suffer even a bit.

But now, the doctor said she wouldn't last 24 hours, and not only Kimberly, but the rest of the family didn't want to save her.

They really didn't want her anymore.

Eighteen years of living together, eighteen years of affection, couldn't soften their hearts.

They really didn't care about her anymore.

Thinking this, Lola's heart ached even more, her vision blurred, and she couldn't hear the servants' voices outside.

The world seemed to fall silent, and she could hear her weakening breath and heartbeat.
