Chapter 784 Can't Think of Anything
"Abella, you finally made it!" Clarence grinned, giving Abella a playful pat on the head. "I've been waiting forever, thought you might bail on me."
Enid's eyes started to water, and even Willow looked a bit shocked. 'What's the deal? Did Clarence personally invite Abella? They seem tight, and Clarence is clearly into her.'
"Check out these pastries, all your faves. See, I do care about you! From now on, answer my texts first, forget about the other teachers!"
Enid couldn't keep up her act anymore; it was clear Clarence had a soft spot for Abella.
Just a minute ago, she was hoping Clarence would help her mess with Abella.
Even Willow was a bit freaked out; it seemed like they had messed with the wrong person.
"Were you eating over here just now?" Clarence asked.
He hadn't seen what Abella was up to earlier, surrounded by guests. He only caught a glimpse of her, but that didn't stop him from rushing over.
"Where's my gift?" Clarence rarely asked for gifts, so this was a big deal.
Enid and Willow were in disbelief; Clarence and Abella seemed super close, which was a shocker.
Guests nearby didn't catch what Clarence was saying to Abella, but seeing him pat her head and smile, they could tell he had a special thing for her.
Abella didn't want to kill his vibe and skipped over what happened earlier. She handed him a small gift box instead.
Clarence was stoked and held it carefully. "Let me guess what this is."
Many guests saw the small gift from Abella, yet Clarence was thrilled. They all came over, curious if Abella's gift was better than theirs.
If it was, that'd be a problem!
More and more guests gathered around Clarence. Seeing him guess what was inside, they joined in too.
"Judging by the size, it’s gotta be a watch, right?"
"A watch would be perfect. It suits Mr. Wodehouse's style, classy and useful."
"Maybe it's a lighter."
"For Mr. Wodehouse's sixtieth? No way it's just a lighter. I bet it's a tie."
"Mr. Wodehouse loves Go. Could it be a Go set?"
While everyone was guessing, Clarence kept an eye on Abella's face. Seeing her calm, he knew they hadn't nailed it. He got even more curious and asked, "What is it exactly?"
"Why don't you open it and see?" Abella teased.
The guests all stared at the gift box, nervous that Abella's gift might outshine theirs.
Clarence opened the lid, revealing a rolled-up painting!
He unrolled it to find a painting slightly larger than an A4 sheet, showing an old man and a young girl playing Go by a waterfall.
They were sitting on stones, with a Go board between them.
Abella's vision and skill were clear in this painting.
How refined and talented must one be to create something like this?
Clarence couldn't stop gushing, "This is amazing, just amazing."
The scene was straight out of when he taught Abella to play Go. The waterfall in the distance, the sound of the water still echoing in his ears, the layered mountains, the clear weather—they'd spent half a day there.
He never thought Abella would remember.
His eyes got a bit misty.
Abella's Go scene painting wasn't just some random doodle.
Clarence got what she was doing. A bunch of guests were trying to become his students today, and Abella knew it was bugging him. So she painted the toughest Go game in history and put it in the painting.
Clarence was touched for a moment before saying, "I really love this birthday gift. I'm sixty now, and as everyone knows, I'm looking for a worthy student to be my successor. Today, Abella has painted this Go game. If anyone here can solve it, I'll take them as my student!"
Everyone was stunned and secretly thrilled!
They didn't expect Clarence to pick a student this way. Looking at Abella, they wondered just how tough the Go game she painted could be!
Everyone was pumped, eager to see Clarence fully reveal the painting.
"Twenty minutes time limit, just to spice up this birthday party," Clarence said with a grin, having the painting fully displayed.
The two people in the painting were evenly matched, and the game seemed to be at a standstill!
No one expected Abella's Go game to be so lifelike, or this hard!
"How about it, Betsy, feeling confident?" Noe quietly asked his granddaughter.
Betsy stared hard at the Go game. "Grandpa, don't bug me."
She had no clue at all!
Could this game really be solved? Or was it just some random thing Abella drew?
Noe could see this Go game was no joke, even his usually cocky granddaughter was stumped!
He quietly settled down and looked at the other guests.
All the guests had anxious looks. Some were staring at the Go game without blinking, some were muttering to themselves, and others were quietly discussing with those around them.
Clarence wasn't worried about them figuring it out because even he had to think for a while before he had any ideas.
It just showed how smart Abella was, using this to stump them.
Abella smiled at Clarence, as if to say, 'I did you a big favor, how are you gonna thank me?'
Clarence smiled back, as if to say, 'We'll talk about gratitude later.'
Using this method to throw everyone off, Abella was indeed super clever!
"Enid, haven't you figured it out yet?" Bradley was getting anxious. He could see that Faye had no ideas either. He wanted Enid to outshine Faye and get back at her for earlier!
Enid hadn't expected Abella to come up with this Go game. Where did she even get it from?
It was seriously impressive. Whoever came up with this game was a genius!
"Dad, let me think a bit more." Enid stared at the Go game, feeling the pressure.
"Hurry up, think faster than the others." Bradley wished Enid could outshine everyone.
Faye, Willow, and Colleen, along with other renowned Go masters, were all stumped.
