Chapter 781 It Really Is Her
"Happy Birthday, man." Henry's grin was all humble and polite, like a kid from the good old days. He turned to the girl next to him and said, "This is my girlfriend, Lola."
"Dude, you got a girlfriend already?" Clarence's eyes darted to Lola. 'Why does that name ring a bell? Feels like I've heard it somewhere before.'
"Mr. Wodehouse, happy birthday! Here's a little something from us. Hope you like it." Lola handed over a gift box, flashing a bright smile.
"Aw, that's too much. Just having you here is enough; no need for gifts."
Earlier, Clarence had gone for a jog and took a nasty spill. Henry just happened to be there and rushed him to the hospital.
Back then, Clarence had no clue who this good Samaritan was, just that he was a stand-up guy. Later, he saw Henry on the news and put two and two together.
He made sure to thank Henry in person, and they hung out a few times after that.
Clarence found Henry to be genuine and kind, not like those other young guys who blow their money on nonsense.
For this birthday bash, Clarence felt it was a must to invite him. Who knows how many more birthdays he'd get to celebrate?
If Henry hadn't helped him out, who knows what kind of mess he'd be in now.
"I can't take this gift," Clarence said, thinking he still owed Henry big time.
But Henry insisted, "Mr. Wodehouse, Lola's a big fan of yours. This gift is her way of showing respect. You gotta take it."
"It's from both of us. We really admire you," Lola added with a graceful smile.
"Well, if you put it that way, I can't say no. You two are too kind. Make yourselves at home. Once everyone's here, we'll do the cake and candles thing."
"Thanks, Mr. Wodehouse," Lola said, her smile sweet as sugar.
Clarence nodded. "I gotta take care of something real quick. Excuse me."
"Go ahead, Mr. Wodehouse. Henry and I will just look around," Lola said, holding Henry's hand.
Clarence had just walked a few steps when it hit him—Lola, with the last name Medici! 'Could she be the one who got swapped with Beckett and Kimberly's daughter, Abella's so-called sister, Lola?'
Ever since Abella was reunited with her family, she talked about everyone except Lola.
Clarence had heard Rodolfo say that this Lola was trouble. 'Could this girl really be her? If it is, poor Henry!'
Lola was holding Henry's hand, strolling to the garden when someone called out, "Lola!"
Lola turned and saw Enid, looking all surprised and happy. "It's really you!"
"Enid? No way! When did you get back? Why didn't you hit me up?" Lola hugged her tight.
Enid hugged her back and said, "I got back last month. My folks moved back to grow their business here."
As she said this, she glanced at Henry behind Lola and asked, a bit surprised, "Lola, who's this guy?"
"Henry," Lola said with a smile, "My boyfriend."
"You two are a thing?" Enid was shocked and pulled Lola aside, whispering, "Don't you have a fiancé? Isn't his name Phillipe? How did it end up being him?"
Enid was puzzled, 'Phillipe is like, top-tier, the guy everyone dreams about. But Lola's with someone I've never even heard of. What's the deal?'
"It's a long story. Let me introduce you first. Henry and I have been dating for a few months now." Lola turned to Henry with a gentle look. "Henry, this is my old middle school buddy, my best friend from back then. She moved abroad with her parents, and we haven't seen each other in ages. Didn't expect to bump into her today."
After they parted ways, they only kept in touch through social media, liking each other's posts and dropping comments here and there.
It had been years since they last met.
"Hey there." Henry nodded politely. "Nice to meet you."
"Hey, I'm Lola's good friend. Nice to meet you too," Enid said, then whispered to Lola, "Wow, your boyfriend's got some serious manners. He's just as classy as Phillipe."
Lola knew she was being nice, but she still smiled gracefully. "I think so too. He treats me really well."
She looked at Henry sweetly as she said this.
Henry's gaze softened, clearly touched by her words.
"Enid, were you invited by Mr. Wodehouse to the birthday party too?" Lola asked.
Enid, without holding back, spilled the beans. "Yeah, my dad wants me to learn Go from Mr. Wodehouse. It's supposed to be a big deal. Originally, Mr. Wodehouse invited my grandpa, but he couldn't make it, so he passed the invite to me and my dad. What about you? Did you come with Mr. Medici?"
"I came with him." Lola gave Henry a loving look.
Enid was a bit taken aback. "Mr. Wodehouse invited someone so young? That means your boyfriend must be really impressive and valued by Mr. Wodehouse. That's awesome!"
She had thought Henry was just some regular guy, but now she saw him differently.
Lola smiled. "Henry, Enid and I haven't seen each other in forever. We need to catch up."
"Sure thing." Henry nodded at her and then at Enid before walking away.
"Your boyfriend is so sweet and treats you so well. What's the deal? Why aren't you with Phillipe? There's no news about you two."
The engagement between the Medici family and the Bourbon family had been set in stone for ages.
Lola's eyes dimmed. "I'll tell you the truth, but you gotta keep it on the down-low."
Enid saw she had something juicy to share and nodded, whispering, "Don't worry, I'm a vault."
"It's just..." Before Lola could finish, she spotted Abella at the door.
Even without makeup, Abella's stunning face was still a showstopper, looking gorgeous under the lights.
Lola cursed in her mind, 'Damn it! She actually showed up!'
The butler at the door was over the moon to see Abella.
