Chapter 538 Delivering the Challenge Personally
The talent show was about to kick off.
First up were the musical acts, and Lola, a big name at Innovation University, stepped up to play the violin.
Abella sat in the crowd, sometimes annoyed by the loud cheers and other times by the off-key notes.
Surprisingly, Lola's violin playing was even worse than her piano skills.
Finally, the performer changed, and the music got a lot better.
Abella was juggling work on her phone while half-listening to the violin. After a bit, she looked up to rest her eyes and saw Elsa under the spotlight, playing the violin!
Elsa, with one hand on the violin and the other on the bow, looked totally lost in her performance, making the crowd go wild.
She was already a big deal at Innovation University, often compared to Lola. Both were not only super good-looking but also really talented.
But to Abella, this violin performance was just okay.
Abella kept working on her phone. When the piece ended, Elsa got high praise from the judges.
The applause was deafening, wave after wave, lasting forever.
With a bright smile, Elsa spoke into the mic, "Today's contestants come from top schools, but the one I really wanted to compete with didn't sign up. I don't want any regrets. Since she's here at Innovation University, I want to invite her on stage to compete, so everyone, including the judges, can see a different kind of brilliance."
Then she called out Abella by name.
Everyone was shocked. No one expected Elsa, a star at Innovation University, to challenge Abella from Medical University!
Her confident smile screamed victory, and the spotlight searched for Abella.
The place was buzzing.
"That Elsa, how dare she..." The Medical University crowd was anxious. "Whether Abella can play the violin or not, Elsa should've given us a heads-up. This is so disrespectful!"
"Exactly, calling out Abella out of nowhere, isn't this just to humiliate her and Medical University?"
"Not many people play the violin compared to the piano. Elsa's definitely up to something."
"This is too much!"
The spotlight finally found Abella, and all eyes turned to her.
The short-haired girl next to Abella said, "Let me go up. I major in piano, but I know a bit about the violin."
At least it was better than making a fool of oneself.
"Now it depends on whether Abella dares to accept the challenge—" The host, the president of Innovation University's student union, spoke excitedly, "If you want to see Abella show her skills, give a big round of applause!"
The place erupted in applause, and all eyes were on Abella.
The Medical University crowd was anxious. "They're too much. Not only are they not being good hosts by smoothing things over, but they're also stirring things up on purpose."
"Abella, you didn't sign up for the competition; you can totally refuse."
Abella had just finished her work on her phone and stood up casually. "Alright, I'll play along."
The girl next to her tried to stop her, but Abella took the violin from her hands. "Let me borrow this."
"No..." The girl next to her whispered anxiously, "This violin is really cheap. The sound quality won't match Elsa's..."
Everyone knew the Medici family was loaded; they only used the best!
"It's fine." Abella took the violin and headed to the stage.
The crowd's cheers grew even louder, surprised at Abella's guts to accept the challenge so easily.
This competition was turning out to be a real nail-biter.
The applause was like waves, one after another.
Elsa hadn't expected Abella to accept the challenge. She looked momentarily surprised, then even more smug.
In such a grand setting, courage alone wasn’t enough. If Abella embarrassed herself, the news would spread to her family and Medical University. She'd become a laughingstock, right?
After some introductory remarks, the host let Abella start her performance.
Lola, in the audience, knew Abella was the famous piano master Anika, but Elsa didn’t.
Lola thought, 'Abella might be great at piano, but that doesn't mean she's good at violin. As the famous master Anika, losing to a college student in violin would be truly embarrassing, right?'
She didn’t care who won or lost. Whether it was Abella or Elsa, she’d be delighted to see either outcome!
Abella stood on stage, her already striking appearance made even more stunning under the spotlight.
Her right hand, holding the bow, was rock steady, her left hand’s fingering precise, with even vibrato, creating a beautiful melody and excellent tone. The music she played was as clean and elegant as she was.
Just standing there, she exuded unmatched elegance and nobility, along with a rich artistic aura.
Everyone was stunned, not expecting Abella to play the violin so well.
Even more surprising was her extraordinary presence; on stage, she seemed like an unattainable dream to many.
Her performance was pure and clear, noble and sharp. The incomparable tone she produced was filled with power, with an epic grandeur, representing nobility and resilience, like a mountain torrent unleashed.
The great joys and sorrows of life, rich emotions, the fiery and the cold, under Abella’s swift and intense playing, swept over everyone like a tornado.
The word "breathtaking" didn’t even begin to describe the impact of her performance on the audience.
Standing beside her, Elsa was completely drawn into the piece’s mood, her smile frozen.
It was as if the entire world had only Abella on stage, her music taking everyone through life’s great highs and lows.
When the piece ended, everyone was still lost in the beautiful music, until after a while, they burst into enthusiastic applause.
The applause lasted a long time, and Abella on stage bowed gracefully and beautifully.
Stanley Jackson, the violinist and music professor at Innovation University, applauded repeatedly, praising, "Your technique and performance skills are on par with any contemporary master."
Such high praise caused another wave of applause to erupt from the audience.
Another judge picked up the microphone, moved, and asked, "I’d like to know, where is this piece from?"
It was so melodious and beautiful!
Just one listen left people with endless aftertaste.
"It’s my improvisation," Abella answered honestly.
The entire audience was once again astonished, even the judges thought she was a genius.
