Chapter 533 If Sold, The Profits Could be Shared
"You just want to outshine Mr. Thompson," Abella said with a smirk, hitting the nail on the head.
Kenneth Thompson was the president of Innovation University. The two old men loved to compete with each other. Now that Abella had enrolled in Medical University instead of Innovation University, Rodolfo would seize every chance to show her off in front of Kenneth.
"I'll leave that opportunity to other students," Abella said, not interested in participating in the competition. "I have a very important experiment to conduct."
Before she could finish, Rodolfo eagerly asked, "What experiment? Let's do it together! I love challenging high-difficulty experiments..."
"I'm afraid you might have a heart attack."
Her words struck a nerve in Rodolfo, who prided himself on his resilience. "I want to see what kind of experiment I can't handle!"
He wasn't boasting; with him and Abella together, he firmly believed there wasn't an experiment they couldn't solve.
"Fine, I'll have someone send you the blood samples later." Abella replied, believing having an extra pair of hands would be helpful; the faster they could neutralize the toxin in Nicole's body, the better.
"In exchange, you should at least come and lead the team for the competition. With you, the perfect scorer, leading, it will boost everyone’s morale. It's settled then."
To prevent Abella from refusing, Rodolfo quickly ended the call and turned off his phone.
Abella was speechless.
Two days later, Rodolfo seethed alone in the lab, muttering, "You think I can't handle this crap?"
As Abella swung the door open, she caught sight of Rodolfo, those dark circles haunting his tired eyes, wrestling with the stubborn data. A grin tugged at her lips. "I warned you, didn't I?"
"Abella, how much are they paying you for this?" His mind raced, 'Gotta be a fat stack. She's busting her ass here; must be banking over a hundred mil. No, with all the headaches this project has, probably even a few hundred mil.'
"Free," Abella replied.
"What the..." Rodolfo's eyes bulged, his brain lagging behind to grasp the concept. "Free? Like, free-free?"
His mental gears turned slowly. Since when did Abella play Santa Claus? Free medical gig? And for a twisty condition like this?
"She's my future sister-in-law." Abella revealed.
Rodolfo understood. "So, who did she piss off to get such a nasty dose?"
A twinge of disbelief settled in. He had been digging for two damn days straight and still drawing blanks. Who the hell concocted this toxin? In the realm of pharmacology, was there anyone more skilled than Rodolfo and Abella?
Abella handed him a new blood sample. "Preliminary suspicion is that the toxins in her body are derived from the blood of those drugged."
They had been injected with various strange poisons since childhood, making their blood extremely toxic. Ordinary people couldn't withstand it. If it weren't for Nicole's strong constitution and her year-long effort to counteract poison with poison, she would have been dead by now.
"This is a blood sample from one of those people?" Rodolfo's eyes lit up. With this blood sample, his subsequent research would be smoother.
"And here's the detox pill I developed," Abella handed over another small bottle.
Rodolfo's eyes widened. "You, you developed an antidote so quickly?"
Under comparison, he felt old and useless!
Abella smiled faintly. "This is just a semi-finished product. After two days of administering it to lab mice, they started to lose energy."
This indicated that the antidote couldn't completely neutralize the toxins in Nicole's body.
"At least you developed a semi-finished product," Rodolfo sighed. He had come up with nothing.
As Abella strolled closer, Rodolfo hurriedly tapped away on the screen, erasing every trace of his past two days' work and purged the recycle bin. Couldn't have Abella getting a kick out of his struggles.
Seeing his actions, Abella smiled again. "So, shall we bet on whether we can develop it within a week?"
"A week?"
Normally, if Abella had said "a week," it would have been an insult to him, a top figure in the medical field, revered by many aspiring doctors as a legend.
But now, he felt that Abella's "a week" was not enough.
For the sake of his pride, Rodolfo agreed readily, "A week it is! With the two of us working together, there's no antidote we can't develop!"
"You'll be the main force," Abella said as her phone vibrated. She looked down and saw a file sent by her subordinate.
After a while, another foreign executive contacted her, and she made a voice call.
Seeing how busy she was, Rodolfo couldn't help but say, "Alright, you’re the leader here. I can't bear to see you too tired. I'll be the main force, and you assist me. Oh, by the way, how's your injury? Did the healing medicine I gave you work?"
Abella rolled up her sleeve to show him. "Much better. Your medicine speeds up healing nicely. Make more, and we'll split the profits."
"I developed this medicine specifically for you. You're always getting into fights... Wait, I know my medicine can be sold, but why would we split the profits?"
"Helping you sell it, shouldn't I get a commission?"
"You... you're even milking your own crew."
Rodolfo figured Abella had gone bonkers for science, maybe even squeezing him for cash. But he dug it, was game, as long as Abella swung by often. He'd hand over all the cash.
After all, he'd splurged five billion bucks to snag the globally revered top-grade medical gadget, the H30, just to entice her to Medical University.
Only two existed worldwide, one at the national research hub in Libertya, and the other snug in his uni lab.
At that moment, someone knocked on the door. "Mr. Wilson, it's me, Brian South."
The student council president's voice came from outside, filled with respect and politeness for Rodolfo.
"You mentioned earlier that the perfect scorer would lead the team for today's competition. The student council just checked her class, and she hasn't attended class for a long time."
This team leader was personally appointed by Rodolfo, so Brian felt it necessary to inform him.
Hearing this, Abella looked at Rodolfo, who was avoiding her gaze, and questioned, "Didn't I send you a message saying I wouldn't lead the team?"
Rodolfo had mentioned the team leadership over the phone, and before Abella could respond, he quickly hung up and turned off his phone.
Abella then sent him a message, stating that she was really busy and had no time to lead the participating students.
