Chapter 324 I've Got Your Back
Early the next morning.
All the instructors drew lots for their respective classes, with every five classes forming one group.
Abella's Medical Class One, along with Clinical Class One, Pediatrics Class Two, Dentistry Class Two, and Anesthesiology Class Two, all drew "one", signifying they would be the first batch to enter.
Students from each class lined up, forming five impressive columns as they marched toward the entrance.
It was early morning, and a thick fog shrouded the area, casting an eerie atmosphere.
"Abella, this place is so creepy..." Joanna couldn't resist clutching the corner of Abella's clothes.
Josie also felt scared. "I hope there isn't anything frightening waiting for us ahead."
Many students hung back, and eventually, Abella was the only one leading the doctor class...
"Don't worry; it's probably just obstacles like log bridges or collapsing pillars," Abella, who had weathered many storms, remained poised, her pretty face betraying no sign of panic.
"Such strong mental fortitude of the top-scoring scholar..."
"Indeed, she's not scared at all in this terrifying environment..."
"I'll follow her; the top scholar is sure to lead us to success."
"I think so too..."
Abella noticed some of the fog was artificially generated to set a tense mood.
Although she found it pointless, many classmates felt uneasy about the swirling mists...
"Could there be ghosts ahead?"
"Surely there are no wild beasts lurking, right?"
"There's not going to be a maze waiting for us, is it?"
The chatter and fear among the classes were amplified.
After walking for a minute, the teams were confronted with five log bridges stretching over mud pits.
"Is this mud pit deep? Will we drown if we fall in?"
"I can't swim..."
"The log bridge is so narrow, so thin, how can we cross?"
...
Walls made of wire fencing flanked them on both sides, leaving only one path through the log bridges to move forward.
"Follow me."
Abella confidently strode onto the log bridge and crossed successfully within seconds.
Joanna and Josie anxiously followed, nearly falling several times but were finally steadied by Abella's helping hand.
Clare, on the other hand, crossed the log bridge with ease as if it were no big deal...
The remaining students varied in their reactions, some cheering, some fretting, and others hesitating...
A smug and arrogant youth boldly leaped onto the log bridge and crossed it in seven or eight strides.
"Where are the guys from Class One? Aren't you coming?"
His voice was commanding, his appearance bright and handsome with a cool air about him, instantly drawing the attention of many girls.
"Mateo Gonzalez, come out—" he called out specifically.
A similarly attractive boy emerged from the crowd but seemed somewhat subdued by his presence, almost like a subordinate.
"Hiding behind girls doesn't show any skill. Come over."
"Big brother, I'm scared..." Even though Mateo Gonzalez was usually brave, the daunting mud pit below was truly intimidating...
Getting his limited edition sneakers dirty was one thing; falling and losing face, making it difficult to pursue girls afterward, was quite another...
"Get your ass over here!" Samuel Williams commanded with an assertive tone.
In the end, Mateo Gonzalez put his life on the line, sprinted over, and lunged at Samuel Williams, both collapsing to the ground, almost sharing a kiss...
"Damn, get away from me..." Samuel Williams said in disgust, pushing him away.
"Big bro, you think I wanted to? My first kiss is still waiting! I can't give it to you, to a guy..."
"You think I care?"
After brushing off his clothes, Samuel Williams tilted his chin towards Abella and said,"Hey, you there, follow me, I've got you covered."
He led the way with Mateo Gonzalez following right behind.
Abella indifferently followed with the other three girls.
Among the medical students, one couldn't help but ask:
"Is he the Mr. Williams everyone talks about?"
"Yes, that's him!"
"He's so handsome. I can't believe he's actually in our class!"
"How come we didn't see him at the military training the other day? Why did he suddenly show up today?"
"The guy's a rich kid; he's definitely looking for some excitement. Those drills we did before, the marching and the turning left and right, what's fun about that?"
"It's great to have a family background, to come and go as pleased..."
In the Western medicine class.
One girl was left staring,"Lucine, look, those people from the medical class are incredible, they just went across like that... Did you notice that girl leading them? She's so beautiful, such poise, such figure..."
That ugly military uniform looks so good on her...
It's so unfair!
Lucine had been paying attention to that leading girl from the start; wasn't she the Abella who made it impossible for her to sleep soundly for days and nights, leaving her covered in bruises?!
Today, Lucine had specially asked Instructor Lucas to find a way to be grouped with Abella, all for a chance to teach this arrogant girl a lesson!
Previously, taking into account Commander Jackson's request, Lucas knew of Lucine's not-so-simple background and was obliged to take good care of her...
However, he wasn't informed about Battalion Lopez looking out for Abella. He only knew about the last time Abella handled Lucine with combat moves, and Lucine, holding a grudge, was looking for a chance to retaliate today.
Instructor Lucas didn't take the girls' squabbles seriously; they were all light-fingered anyway, unable to cause any serious harm. He only reminded Lucine to be careful of the extent, as making a big deal out of it wouldn't end well, even for a poor student - he couldn't shoulder the blame...
After Lucine promised several times, Lucas agreed to help her out.
At that moment, Lucine glared at Abella with eyes that could almost shoot flames as she followed behind Samuel Williams and Mateo Gonzalez, her jealousy flaring up.
"Lucine, why do I get the feeling you don't like her?" asked a girl named Amelia Swift, her tone gentle and she looked quite adorable.
"She's the Abella I told you about."
"What? She's the one who hit you and made you lose face?" Amelia was on her period that day, had taken leave, and only later did she hear from Lucine about an arrogant girl in the medical class who left her covered in bruises...
She never imagined it was the girl who had taken the lead just now...
"Come on, let's confront her." Lucine crossed the bridge alone with Amelia Swift trailing behind, swearing to make Abella pay.
Not long after Abella and her group crossed the bridge, three walls appeared before them, each higher than the last. Samuel Williams managed to scale the first two, but when he tried the third, his strength fell short.
He cursed internally in beautiful Chinese, questioning what the instructors were thinking by setting such high walls. Were they insane?
That's when he caught a glimpse of a girl out of the corner of his eye, as light as a swallow, effortlessly scaling all three walls and landing gracefully on the ground.
He watched in disbelief. Then, another girl easily climbed over all three walls and high-fived the first girl.
