Chapter 738 It Didn't Even Last Half a Minute
Lola just sat there, not saying a word, her feelings all over the place.
"Lola?" Henry noticed she wasn't in the mood to chat, so he grabbed the first aid kit and started patching her up.
Lola saw how serious and worried he looked and yanked her foot back. "Now you know I'm not some fancy Medici kid. Why are you still here? Just go!"
"Hold still." Henry pulled her foot back and kept working on her wounds.
"I'm not good enough for you, didn't you get the memo? Leave."
Henry paused, looking up at Lola on the swing. "You having second thoughts?"
Lola was thrown off.
"Did I mess up today and let you down?"
Lola looked away. For some reason, Henry's eyes always had this hidden hurt that made her uneasy.
"I told you, I'm not a Medici. It has nothing to do with today!"
"So what?" Henry kept treating her wounds. Whether she was a Medici or not mattered less than the cut on her foot.
Lola was taken aback. Seeing Henry so focused on her tiny injury, she asked, "Didn't you get it? I'm not really a Medici, I was just a mix-up! I'm just a regular nobody, not good enough for you!"
"Who says you're not good enough? Not you, not anyone else. If I say we're a match, then we are," Henry said, eyes on her injury, "I like you for you, not your name."
"But your family won't agree."
Henry didn't expect her to think that far ahead. He looked up gently, "I'll deal with my family."
Lola didn't expect Henry to be so chill about her real background.
She thought he'd dump her for some high-society girl.
Just then, Henry's phone rang.
He finished applying the ointment before picking up.
"Henry, you're such a jerk! You ditched Grandpa's birthday for Lola!" Melanie's angry voice blasted through the phone.
Henry stayed calm. "I'll apologize when I get back."
"It's late! Grandpa will be asleep by then! Don't forget how many eyes in the Hall family are on you! Grandpa has more than one grandson! You not showing up gives them ammo, and Mom's pissed!" Melanie was fuming, "Henry, just 'cause your career's taking off doesn't mean you can go against everyone! You were Grandpa's pride, Dad's pride, and tonight you let them down!"
"I'll explain tomorrow."
"Explain what? That for a two-faced Lola, you booked a venue, arranged a sea of flowers, and got scolded by her?"
"You were there?" Henry was surprised.
"If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe she is a socialite!"
Henry frowned, not wanting Lola to hear. "We'll talk when I get back."
Melanie didn't expect Henry to hang up on her!
It had to be because Lola was right there!
This couldn't stay under wraps any longer. If she couldn't get Henry to back off, she'd have to let their parents step in!
Henry couldn't screw up now, not when the Hall family was in such deep trouble. He was the only one who could turn things around, and he couldn't afford to mess up!
Henry put his phone away and looked at her softly. "You got any other injuries? Your hands okay?"
Lola felt a sudden wave of emotion. For a moment, she thought Henry wasn't so bad and was genuinely good to her.
"No." She turned her gaze away, avoiding his eyes. "If you got stuff to do, you can go. You don't need to stick around."
"I'll stay a bit longer." Henry sat next to her, his eyes gentle. "How'd you get hurt anyway?"
"It was snowing, the road was slippery, and I took a tumble."
She didn't mention she caused David to fall too.
"Where'd you fall?" Henry asked, concerned.
"In the garden."
"Was it yesterday?"
"Today."
Henry finally got it. "So you were in a bad mood and wanted to go out?"
No wonder she asked him out.
Lola was hurting and feeling wronged, wanting someone to be with her.
Henry felt guilty. "I didn't know you were hurt, and I made you walk so much today, in the lavender field, at SkySteel Spire, and from Senova riverside to the parking lot. If I had known, I would've carried you."
"Would you dare?" Lola teased with a smile.
For some reason, knowing Henry didn't mind her, she felt a bit happy inside.
"Rest up at home tomorrow." Henry couldn't stand seeing her walk so much. Her knee was scraped earlier.
But Lola snapped back, "If you don't wanna see me, just say it. Why beat around the bush?"
She got off the swing chair and tried to walk, but her foot hurt, and she couldn't stand.
Henry quickly supported her. "You got it wrong, I just don't want you to be too tired."
"Actually, you do mind, don't you?" Lola angrily pushed him away.
Henry was baffled.
"If you don't wanna be together, just say it. Why make excuses?"
Henry finally got what she meant. "I told you, your family background doesn't matter to me. What matters is that you're with me! If you don't believe me, I'll set up a date tomorrow where you don't have to walk, okay?"
Lola couldn't help but smile. "Who wants to date you? Besides, what kind of date doesn't involve walking?"
Seeing her smile, Henry's tense mood eased, and he smiled too. "There is, there is a date without walking. I'll plan tomorrow, and I promise it won't be a letdown like today."
Seeing his sincere expression, Lola finally smiled and felt a bit better. "I'm done talking to you, I'm going to bed."
"I'll take you." Henry scooped her up in a romantic princess carry.
Lola looked at his profile. It wasn't as handsome as Phillipe's, but it wasn't bad.
His skin was fair and smooth, with sharp jawlines and clear eyes.
'Have I been too hard on him, always comparing him to Phillipe? Actually, he's already way better than most guys.' But this thought didn't last long before Lola saw Phillipe kissing Abella against a tree from a distance.
Phillipe's bold and passionate style was her dream guy.
