Chapter 581 Provoked
"Today, I brought you here to meet her. If there's nothing else, you can go now. Abella and I have more to discuss," James said.
After Charles left, James handed Abella a document. "This is your share of the company, a welcome gift. I'm glad you're back with the family."
Abella declined, "No need, Uncle James."
"Take it," James insisted, placing the document in her hand. "You're a Medici and a Harris. You deserve a share."
"Uncle James, I still have to go to school," she said, feeling overwhelmed.
"Charles will help manage, and you have me," James reassured her. Then he asked, "You have a good technique for rolling craps. Who taught you?"
Abella briefly recounted her childhood experience. James laughed. "That gentleman is still a playful old man, very interesting."
Abella felt a bit guilty, remembering she had won $288 million from James the day before, thinking the Piercing of Heart was in Mike's hands.
"In the future, you can visit any of my properties for free," James said warmly. "I'll introduce you to everyone at the company soon."
Seeing her well-behaved demeanor, James' gaze softened. "After you rest, I'll have Aimee show you around the house."
Aimee had a driver bring a sightseeing car to pick up Abella. "The Harris Manor is huge. Walking around would take forever."
Once in the car, Aimee began the tour. "This is the front garden, full of rare flowers and plants. It takes about half an hour to walk through. Here's the helipad; Mr. Harris usually travels by helicopter. This is the vegetable and fruit garden, and over there is Mr. Harris' golf course."
By noon, the tour ended, and James had the chef prepare a feast. The dining table was filled with dozens of exquisite dishes.
"This is your first meal in Sunhavenia with me, so it has to be special," James said.
The dishes were elaborate, and the setting was warm and romantic.
"James, you went all out again," Beckett said, patting James on the shoulder. "Every time I come, you go to great lengths."
"Beckett, it's just a few dishes," James replied, then looked at Abella. "Abella, don't be shy. Eat up."
"Abella won't be shy," Kimberly said with a smile. After sitting down, she suggested a toast to James.
James said, "We should toast to Abella. I'm really glad she's back with the family."
The clinking of glasses marked their reunion.
"It's rare for Abella to visit. Let's let her rest today. Tomorrow, we'll take her out for some fun," James suggested.
"Great, where should we go?" Kimberly asked, looking at James. She also wanted some time alone with Abella.
"I'll arrange it."
Everyone chatted and laughed, ending the meal on a high note.
In the afternoon, Abella went to her room to rest. Not long after, there was a hurried knock on the door.
"Ms. Medici, it's me. Are you resting? Mrs. Harris just woke up, and Mrs. Medici told her about your background. She seemed shocked, couldn't breathe, and fainted again."
Abella got up and opened the door. "I'll go take a look."
In the large master bedroom on the first floor, Kimberly was already in a panic. If anything happened to Vanessa, she would hate herself!
"Abella is here!" Beckett felt relieved upon seeing her.
Kimberly's eyes filled with hope. "Abella, your grandmother..."
"It's okay, let me check." Abella sat by the bed, her slender fingers checking Vanessa's condition. She was indeed shocked, and her condition had worsened.
She opened her medical kit and got to work.
"Is it serious?" Kimberly was frantic. "I told your grandmother about your background when she woke up. Did her condition worsen?"
"Mom was going to find out sooner or later. With Abella here, don't worry," James reassured Kimberly gently.
But Kimberly felt terrible. She wished she had waited until Vanessa's condition was more stable.
One by one, long silver needles were placed on the elderly woman's acupoints. Abella's expression was calm, as if nothing could faze her.
Kimberly suddenly realized Abella was much more mature and composed than they were. She remained calm in the face of adversity, a stabilizing force for everyone.
Seeing Vanessa suffer because of her impulsiveness, Kimberly's eyes welled up with tears. She blamed herself until Abella started to remove the needles.
"Grandma will wake up tomorrow," Abella said softly.
"Why?" Kimberly asked urgently.
"Her body is still very weak and was a bit shocked. I'll adjust her medication list later." Abella stood up and looked at Kimberly. "It's okay, don't worry."
"Is there no danger to her life?"
"No."
Kimberly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let's go out and let her rest." Abella gave a few instructions to the nurse before leaving with the others.
"Thank goodness Abella was here today." Kimberly felt she had been too reckless. After hiding it for so long, why did she have to rush? If Abella hadn't been here today, who knows what would have happened by the time other doctors arrived.
"Kimberly, don't blame yourself," James comforted. "You wanted to let Mom know about Abella. We all understand. Abella has been back with the family for half a year, but her identity hasn't been announced. You feel guilty towards her."
Kimberly felt very sad. She wanted more than anyone to announce Abella's identity, to let everyone know she was the true daughter of the Medici family!
But her worst fear had come true.
Fortunately, Vanessa wasn't in life-threatening danger due to the shock.
Otherwise, she would never forgive herself.
