Chapter 1049 In Trouble
Whitney threw out those words, grabbed Melanie, and turned to leave, not wanting to look at her foolish son for another second.
Melanie turned back, her eyes red with anger, and spat out, "You'd better keep her locked up forever, or I'll deal with her every time I see her! I, will never be on good terms with her! As long as I'm around, she won't step foot into the Hall family!"
Upstairs, Lola heard this, and a fierce glint flashed in her eyes.
Ten minutes later, the doctor had finished changing Lola's bandages, and the maids had helped her into clean clothes.
When Henry came upstairs, he saw two maids packing Lola's luggage. Lola, sitting at the vanity, tried to remove her earrings but accidentally touched the wound on her earlobe, wincing in pain.
"Lola." Henry rushed over, noticing her ear was injured. Could it have been from when Whitney and Melanie hit her, pulling on her earrings?
He glanced at the doctor.
The doctor quickly bowed and said, "Mr. Hall, I'm sorry, I didn't notice Ms. Flores had a wound on her ear. I'll take care of it right away."
"Forget it," Henry said, a bit annoyed. "You can go now, leave the first aid kit."
He saw that Lola had already taken off all her jewelry, placing each piece on the vanity, seemingly not planning to take them with her.
"This earring is still on, Henry. I've made up my mind. I'll move out today. Let's not upset Mrs. Hall anymore. She has a heart condition, and it wouldn't be good if she had an episode. Don't worry, I can take care of myself out there."
Tears welled up in Lola's eyes as she spoke, feeling a bit guilty. "It's all my fault. I've made so many mistakes in the past and didn't leave a good impression on Mrs. Hall and Ms. Hall."
At this moment, Henry noticed the two maids in the closet still packing and said, a bit displeased, "Stop packing."
The two maids quickly bowed and left.
"It's my fault for not handling things at home better, making you suffer." Henry reached out and hugged Lola at the vanity, feeling deeply guilty. "I just saw the video Briar and Celestia sent me. You were begging my mom and sister. How could you be so foolish?"
He hugged Lola tightly, genuinely surprised that she loved him this much!
Seeing Lola being bullied and even physically attacked by his family just to be with him, he felt both moved and heartbroken.
"You'd rather take a beating than be apart from me," Henry said tenderly, kissing her lips, his eyes red with emotion, his voice hoarse. "Lola, I love you so much."
"I love you too," Lola gently stroked his hand, looking at herself in the mirror, trying to appear more gentle and understanding. "I just don't want to make Mrs. Hall unhappy. So I thought of a solution. We'll live separately. I'll move somewhere farther away. If Mrs. Hall still can't accept me, I can move to a neighboring city."
Lola's gaze fell on his reflection in the mirror, looking sincere and gentle. "Don't worry, my love for you won't diminish because of distance. Even if I have to live in the shadows, as long as you have me in your heart, and I have you in mine, that's enough."
Hearing her say this, Henry felt even more moved and loved her even more.
"You shouldn't have been so harsh with Mrs. Hall and Ms. Hall. You're family," Lola said gently.
"You're my family too," Henry said, hugging her tighter. "You don't need to move anywhere. We'll have the wedding. I'll find a time to hold it and invite all our friends and family, so they know you're the one I've chosen for life, the one I love the most."
"But..."
"No buts. Not seeing you for a day is already torture for me. You want to move to another city? What if I get busy and can't visit you every day? I can't imagine that life. I'm used to having you by my side."
Henry held her close. "You're mine. You should stand with me on the stage, receiving flowers and applause, not hiding far away without a title. Don't ever think like that again."
This was exactly what Lola had been waiting for!
"But..." Lola pretended to feel guilty. "It's all my fault. If I were healthy, I could visit your parents often and be good to them."
"Get better first. You're still weak. I'll handle things with my parents." Henry said, opening the first aid kit to treat her ear wound. "Did they hit you?"
Lola quickly covered, "I don't know how it happened."
Henry knew she was protecting them. "This afternoon, when I went to work, there was no wound. It appeared after they came. Do you think I can't figure it out if you don't say anything?"
"Henry, don't blame them. It doesn't hurt at all, really!" Lola said, wincing in pain, then quickly added, "Compared to what the Medici family did to me, Mrs. Hall and Ms. Hall have been very kind."
This brought back memories for Henry, recalling when he rescued her from the Medici family's basement, barely alive and covered in wounds. His heart ached even more.
Just then, Briar knocked on the door and whispered, "Mr. Hall, there are cops outside looking for you."
Henry paused, then continued, "I know. You can go now."
"Henry, what's going on?" Lola asked worriedly. "Why are the cops here?"
"It's just a small matter. Don't move. Let me finish treating your wound."
"Are you in trouble?" Lola hadn't seen the latest trending news and didn't know their relationship had been exposed, or that Henry's two subordinates' deaths pointed to him, or that people were saying Henry sabotaged the Medici family's award-winning car in revenge for her.
She was worried Henry was in big trouble, and the lifeline she had clung to was about to collapse.
Had she taken those beatings for nothing?
"Don't worry, it's just a small matter. The cops are just going through the motions because of public opinion," Henry said nonchalantly. "Are you worried about me?"
"You're my boyfriend. If I don't worry about you, who will?" Lola thought, wondering what public opinion she had missed. Had she missed some explosive news this afternoon?
Henry wouldn't have done something to end up in jail, right? No way, the Hall family was too powerful to let this happen.
