Chapter 1105 Too Late

They struggled to move, but under Margaret's mother's guidance, they found a pair of industrial scissors used by the workers. They cut the ropes binding them, saving everyone and escaping the garment factory.

"Back then, you were still giving birth, and it was a C-section. Plus, you have a lot of pride and didn't want to burden us with your family's issues. So, after talking it over with your family, we decided not to tell you about it so you could rest and recover," Winslow explained. "It's not that we didn't want to visit you and Primrose; we were injured and in the hospital too."

When Margaret and George were planning their wedding, Margaret was worried that the Medici family wouldn't accept her, so she hid her family's true situation.

Outsiders thought her family ran a garment factory with dozens of employees. In reality, to pay off her brother's debts, her family had mortgaged their house, car, and factory.

"Before you married George, we already knew about your family's financial situation."

Winslow's words made Margaret look up sharply. She never expected that after hiding it for so long, they had known all along.

"We also knew you used all your gold to pay off your brother's debts, and about those photos," Winslow continued, though she hesitated, not wanting to hurt Margaret's pride.

"After you got married, those people came back a few times asking for money with those photos. Carl and I took care of it, and the photos were destroyed."

Margaret was stunned to learn that Carl and Winslow had secretly handled the situation for her.

She remembered the last time she gave those people money, she had threatened them, saying if they asked for more, it would be a fight to the death. She thought it was her threat that worked, but now she knew...

"After the factory burned down, we provided financial support so your parents could rebuild it. Your brother also realized his mistakes and started learning to manage the factory. We secretly gave him resources and connections."

To Winslow, these were minor matters.

She didn't think it was necessary to mention it because she considered Margaret as one of her own children. If Margaret's family was doing well, Margaret would be happy, and that made Winslow happy too.

Because of this, Margaret's parents were grateful to Winslow and Carl, and the two families maintained a good relationship.

Margaret's brother also turned his life around. Helping Margaret's family was like helping Margaret, which was also helping themselves.

"If Kimberly were as sensitive as you, would she think it's unfair that we helped you without telling her? Would she hold a grudge too?" Winslow's question left Margaret speechless.

Back then, Margaret's family didn't tell her any of this.

Margaret only knew that after those people kidnapped her parents and brother, they were arrested for arson. Since loan shark debts aren't legally protected, her brother's debts were dismissed.

She never imagined that both families had woven a kind lie to cover the lie she initially told.

A lie tied to her pride.

"After we recovered, we visited you and Primrose as soon as we could," Winslow explained. "Blake had a high fever at the time, but we came to see you first before checking on him."

Margaret's tears finally fell. "But on the day Elsa was born, you came to the hospital, saw I had another daughter, and left quickly with a bad expression."

"That's because we were injured that day. After seeing you and Elsa, we went to treat our wounds," Winslow recalled. She and Carl had been working in the garden when they heard Margaret was in labor. They were so excited to rush to the hospital that they both fell. Carl broke his hand, and Winslow had cuts and bruises.

But they didn't want to miss Margaret's vulnerable postpartum period again, so they visited her and Elsa first.

Even though Carl's broken hand was excruciating, and Winslow's injuries were painful.

They endured the pain to see her and the baby before treating their wounds.

Maybe they looked pained because they were in so much pain.

Margaret realized the misunderstanding was huge.

"You said we spent more time with Kimberly's kids than with Primrose and Elsa because Kimberly's kids were born earlier. After we handed the company over to them, we had more time and energy to spend with our grandkids. But by the time you had Primrose, we were older, and the distance between our homes..."

It used to take ten minutes to get to Long Island Manor.

But visiting Margaret took about forty minutes.

They couldn't make the trip every day; their bodies couldn't handle it.

"But you can ask Primrose and Elsa if they really think we were biased," Winslow said, exhausted, looking at Primrose and Elsa.

Margaret, with tears in her eyes, looked at her daughters.

Primrose shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "Grandma and Grandpa treated me the same as my five brothers. I never felt they were biased or neglected me."

This was her heartfelt truth.

Her grandparents spoiled her and never treated her differently because she was a girl.

On the contrary, when she was mischievous and got scolded by her parents, her grandparents would defend her.

"Grandma and Grandpa were very good to me too," Elsa answered honestly. "I never felt they loved my brothers more than me."

Margaret's emotions finally broke, and she burst into tears.

She had always thought Carl and Winslow were biased, and George, hearing her complaints, also felt his parents were unfair.

He always felt unappreciated.

So they made one mistake after another.

Winslow was heartbroken, and Margaret was also in tears.

"You caused so much trouble for Beckett and Kimberly over this, even trying to burn them and their newborn baby," Winslow cried uncontrollably. "We are family."

George and Margaret were filled with regret, but it was too late.

They knelt before their parents and Beckett and Kimberly, tears silently falling, heads bowed like children who had done wrong.

Winslow had someone bring the family rod, striking them hard. "I've loved you for so many years, and you two have gone too far. You've deeply disappointed me."

She hadn't hit them many times before she fainted from the emotional shock.
