Chapter 928 Starting to Settle Accounts
When Kimberly heard that Dennis had prepared an Easter gift for Abella, her dissatisfaction eased a bit. At least he had some decency.
"Hey, how about we add each other on WhatsApp first?" Dennis pulled out his phone.
No matter what, he needed to get Abella's contact info. Otherwise, he'd be begging everyone, and no one would be willing to give it to him!
Abella added Dennis on WhatsApp.
After they connected, Dennis happily saved her contact and then asked, "What's your phone number?"
Abella recited a string of numbers. Dennis called her and said warmly, "This is my number. Hit me up anytime you need anything."
"Didn't expect Dennis to be the first one home this year," Beckett said with a smile. "I thought he'd be the last one again."
"Mr. Beckett Medici, you misunderstood Mr. Dennis Medici. He rushed back before fully recovering just to see Ms. Medici sooner." Louie chimed in, trying to help.
Beckett, even more pleased, looked at Dennis. "Perfect timing with Easter. You can rest up and spend more time with Abella."
"Absolutely." Dennis was eager to make Abella happy and redeem his poor image.
"Alright, you two chat. I'll check on what's cooking in the kitchen and ask them to make a few more dishes." Kimberly stood up.
"Since Dennis is home, maybe I'll show off my cooking skills." Beckett followed her.
"Better not. Dennis is already injured. We don't need him getting food poisoning too."
As their figures disappeared, Bonnie suggested, "Caleb, let's show Mom and Dad around?"
It had been a long time since they were home, and some places had changed a lot.
Caleb supported David, and Bonnie took Vanessa's hand as they left. Dennis then turned to Abella, concerned. "You still haven't answered my question."
He hadn't pressed her earlier with the family around.
"Were you hurt in the explosion at the abandoned building?" Dennis asked, staring at Abella.
He had shielded Abella and hit his head, vaguely seeing her leave with what seemed like an injured arm, bleeding heavily.
He wanted her to stay, but he soon passed out.
Thinking back, he wasn't sure if it was a hallucination or if Abella was really hurt.
"It's nothing serious." Abella's calm response made Dennis catch the key point. "So, you were hurt? Your arm? Is it here?"
Just as Dennis was about to check her injury, Abella pulled her hand back. "The family doctor already bandaged it."
"When did you get hurt? How did it happen?" Dennis thought back. He hadn't noticed any injuries on Abella when they ran out of the building.
Abella recalled being grazed by a bullet while Dennis dragged her down the stairs.
But to avoid worrying Dennis, she simply said, "I didn't notice. Not sure how it happened. The doctor said it's nothing serious and will heal soon."
Seeing Abella's calm and strong demeanor, Dennis couldn't help but wonder what she had been through to remain so composed after being shot.
"Your body hasn't fully recovered. You should smoke less." Abella said with concern.
Dennis had a faint smell of tobacco when he appeared on the 18th floor of the abandoned building.
He had just had surgery.
Dennis was surprised Abella noticed such a small detail and happily said, "I won't smoke anymore. I'll quit."
Louie widened his eyes, doubting his ears. Dennis had such a strong addiction. Could he really quit?
Abella's one sentence could make him quit?
"You still haven't told me why you want that island so badly?" Dennis asked, puzzled.
The island was overgrown with weeds, but Abella seemed very interested.
"Because it has many rare medicinal herbs."
Dennis was stunned.
"Take the Rejuvena Herb, for example. I used to need over a dozen different herbs to replicate 80% of its effects. But Dennis, your island has plenty of Rejuvena Herb, so I don't need to go through all that trouble."
"How did you know the island had it?"
"After the recent super typhoon, someone spotted something resembling Rejuvena Herb near the island. Further investigation revealed the island had many rare herbs."
Louie's eyes widened in shock. He hadn't expected the weeds on that island to be so valuable.
No wonder Abella was determined to get it.
"Vitality Isle has a unique climate and environment conducive to growing various herbs. I want to buy it and transplant my herbs there for research."
Dennis finally understood why she was so determined to get that island.
Abella held the title of Medical Authority, so doing medical research was normal.
Thinking back to how he had tried to make it difficult for Abella, not letting her buy the island easily, and even making her visit his Beast Island to scare her and see her embarrassed.
Louie seemed to recall that scene too, feeling awkward and uneasy about Abella's reaction.
Although Abella wasn't hurt that night, and the animals on the island behaved unusually well. It was still a prank. What if Abella held a grudge?
"Mr. Medici, we have many people in Britonia who can help Ms. Medici with the herb planting!" Louie quickly changed the subject, suggesting.
Dennis thought it was a good idea and looked at Abella. "What do you think?"
"Some herbs are delicate. If not handled properly, they can easily die. I've already arranged for people to go."
"Abella, do you have another identity I don't know about?"
Abella could easily mobilize people, and she had followers around.
If she were an ordinary person, she wouldn't have such skills and influence. Who was she really?
"Dennis, you'll find out eventually." Abella didn't boast or reveal her identity. Instead, she said, "But Dennis, you have unique tastes, even your pets are different from others."
Dennis knew he was in trouble.
He glanced at Louie, who also felt doomed. Abella was starting to settle scores.
What to do? Should he say he had something to do and leave now?
He didn't want to take responsibility.
Thinking of this, Louie quickly wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "Ms. Medici, Mr. Medici has many other islands."
"Yes, yes." Dennis quickly added, "You can pick any one you like."
Abella smiled, intrigued. "If your weed island is so expensive, I can't afford the others."
