Chapter 557 Sinking into the Lake

The sound of helicopters filled the sky.

Everyone looked up to see a dozen choppers overhead. The masked leader squinted. "You called for backup?"

Abella glanced up, surprised at how fast Phillipe had acted. She had just arrived, and he was already here.

Phillipe pinpointed Abella's location and told his men to avoid the red dot, targeting the others with silenced grenades.

One by one, the grenades exploded, leaving nothing but remains.

"Looks like your reinforcements don't care about you," the masked man sneered. "Blasting like this, are they trying to send you to hell too?"

"Mind your own business," Abella snapped, attacking the masked man.

He countered swiftly.

From the helicopter, Phillipe saw the red dot moving and ordered, "Avoid this area."

Abella must be trying to capture someone.

He needed to help her.

"Land."

"Mr. Bourbon, there are still many people down there. If you go down now..."

Before Gabriel could finish, Phillipe's warning gaze made him order an emergency landing.

Abella and the masked man exchanged blows. The masked man sneered. "Few can withstand three moves from me. If you join us, you'll rise to the top."

"Who cares," Abella said, striking his shoulder.

The helicopter landed, creating a massive gust of wind.

Abella hit his abdomen again, making him stagger. He took out his phone, seemingly to order his men to kill the hostages.

Abella tried to snatch the phone, and soon, it was kicked into the air. As they both reached for it, the phone landed in someone else's hand.

Abella looked up and saw Phillipe, who caught the phone and pulled her behind him.

The masked man looked at the unexpected guest. "You again."

He thought, 'Are these two a couple? They do look compatible. But isn't Abella with The A Gang's boss? Why is The C Gang's boss always rescuing her?'

Abella and Phillipe quickly subdued and knocked him out.

"Are you hurt?" Phillipe asked, ruffling her hair.

"I'm fine, give me the phone."

She needed to find out where Josie and Bella were.

The masked man's phone was encrypted. After Abella cracked it, she mimicked his tone and messaged his men: [Send a photo, Abella doesn't believe her friends are unharmed.]

They quickly sent a photo. It showed Josie and Bella tied up by a lake, the other end of the rope attached to several large stones, ready to be pushed into the water.

Abella: [Bring them here]

The reply came: [Give the code.]

'Code?' Abella was puzzled. She searched the chat history but found no code. 'Could it have been arranged privately?'

[Please provide the code.] The other side messaged again.

Abella guessed they might be suspicious and showed the photo to Phillipe. "Can you find out where this is?"

"Let me see." Phillipe took the phone and noticed the photo was taken by a lake, with a pink camellia in the frame.

Phillipe used his company's app to narrow the location to Empire Vista City and searched for similar spots. A few places popped up.

"These two are far, at least two hours from Innovation University, so let's rule them out," Abella said. "Of the remaining three, two have camellias. Where could Josie and Bella be?"

It was hard to say.

"Let's get on the helicopter first." Phillipe took her hand, leaving the masked man to Gabriel.

Meanwhile, the men waiting for the masked man's code suspected he was in danger and decided to follow the original plan, pushing Josie and Bella toward the lake.

Tied up and dragging stones, every step was tough, and they kept falling.

Bella's voice was tearful. "We have no grudge against you. You tied us up, attached stones, and are pushing us to the lake. What do you want? If it's money, I can call my family for ransom."

Josie was also scared. "Even if we die, at least let us know why."

"What did we do to offend you? Or what do you want? At least tell us."

The masked men ignored them, pulling them up and pushing them forward again.

"It hurts," Bella fell again, her knee cut by a stone. Another masked man forcibly pulled her up.

Though Bella's hands and feet were tied, she instinctively grabbed the masked man's clothes. "Please, at least tell us the truth before we die."

"Did someone order you to do this? Who is it? We're going to die anyway, we can't hold you accountable. Just tell us."

No matter how Josie and Bella pleaded, the men remained silent.

Bella didn't want to move forward but was forcibly dragged to the lake. She struggled. "Let go of me."

Josie pushed away the masked man next to Bella. "Bella, don't be afraid."

"Josie, I don't want to die," Bella cried, suddenly hearing the sound of helicopters.

The noise startled the masked men, who looked up to see a passing helicopter. Was it reinforcements?

The helicopter's system quickly locked onto the people below, detecting seven or eight points by the lake, representing seven or eight people.

"Could someone be coming to save us?" Bella shouted, "Help, save us."

Her voice was drowned out by the helicopter noise but alerted the masked men. Time was running out.

Seeing the helicopter about to land, the strong wind forced them to shield their eyes.

The wind was too strong, and the noise was loud.

One masked man picked up Bella's stone, ready to throw it into the lake.

"No," Josie quickly got up and pushed the masked man away.

The masked man, annoyed, punched her in the face. Bella, seeing this, headbutted him, "How dare you hit my friend, I'll fight you!"

Seeing the girls becoming more defiant, the masked men threw their stones into the lake.

Bella and Josie were instantly dragged into the lake by the stones.
