Chapter 772 Time to Return Home

"Lola, what the heck was she doing in the basement?" David blurted out.

"She probably heard some noise or maybe one of the servants let something slip, and she got curious. Caleb's already chewed out all the staff," Bonnie said, rubbing David's back, trying to keep him calm.

David's heart softened a bit, not as rock-hard as before.

"No wonder Lola had a nightmare last night," David realized. "Her world’s always been so squeaky clean, and those folks in the basement messed it up. She’s never seen anything like that; of course, she’d be freaked out."

David remembered Lola curled up in the study last night, crying her eyes out.

She must've been scared out of her mind!

"I gotta tell Vanessa to comfort her more and help her forget this mess ASAP," David said, then had another thought. "How about we let her and Abella go back home for a bit? Easter’s coming up. They can head back first, and we’ll join them at Long Island Manor later. Vanessa and I are good now."

Bonnie looked at him, speechless. 'Are you sure you're totally fine? Who was the one almost losing it just now?'

"You got so many shady folks in your basement; don’t let Abella see them," David said, worried.

Even though Abella had already seen his relatives do some nasty stuff at the hospital before.

But those bloody and brutal scenes should be kept to a minimum.

After all, Abella was still just a teenager.

Caleb stayed quiet.

Bonnie stayed quiet.

If David knew Abella was the leader of The A Gang and had seen way worse, he might just lose it.

Bonnie only knew about Abella’s skills from Caleb. To get Ulysses and Dreck to spill their plans, Abella had worked with her, showing a level of smarts that impressed her.

When she heard from Caleb that Abella was the leader of The A Gang, Bonnie was even more blown away.

"Let’s go with this plan. Let them go back first. This way, Phillipe and Henry can get back to their work sooner. They can get a head start, and we can all meet up for Easter without any delays," David thought it was a solid idea and nodded, heading off to discuss it with Vanessa.

Bonnie glanced at Caleb, a bit worried. If Lola was mixed up in this, sending her back could be risky.

Caleb saw her concern and said gently, "She’s crying now, and we can’t get anything out of her. If she’s really involved and denies it, we got no proof. We’d still have to let her go back."

They couldn’t just lock up the Lola they’d loved for eighteen years and grill her with all kinds of questions.

Besides, Lola’s world was indeed simple, clean, and beautiful. With her strength, courage, and connections, she didn’t seem capable of murder or getting mixed up in such stuff.

Just then, Caleb’s phone rang. After answering, he told Bonnie, "The Beauty Skincare Group founded by Abella has now surpassed all major skincare brands and is ranked number one."

Maybe because of all the trash talk before, the Beauty Skincare Group brand had blown up and was now sitting pretty at the top.

"Really?" Bonnie was genuinely stoked for Abella. The girl had worked her butt off for this!

"Also, the online flagship store of KT Group got nuked due to bad reviews. The store's shut down, and the cops have hauled away everyone involved," Caleb said, giving Bonnie a sharp look.

Bonnie caught on quick and voiced their shared thought, "The folks who trashed Beauty Skincare Group aren’t from KT Group. Whoever made KT Group take the fall must be someone big, maybe even the same person who hired the hitman!"

Even though the guy in the basement was dead and the trail had gone cold, they could still chase the KT Group lead!

"Exactly," Caleb said, grinning at Bonnie. They always knew what the other was thinking.

Bonnie smiled back, determined. 'It won’t be long before I find this person and give Abella the justice she deserves!'

Meanwhile, Abella’s phone buzzed. It was a call from Clarence.

"Abella!" Clarence’s voice on the phone was mock-angry. "If I hadn’t called, would you have forgotten what day it is tomorrow?"

Abella suddenly remembered—it was his birthday tomorrow.

Clarence added, "I’ve already gotten tons of birthday messages, but you’re so heartless you haven’t sent me a single one."

Since they last met at school, Abella had been MIA. She hadn’t posted in their group chat either.

It was like she’d vanished.

"Have you forgotten about us?"

This year was his sixtieth birthday, and he was planning a big bash, but Abella hadn’t reached out.

He’d already warned her last time that if she didn’t show up for his birthday party, he’d never spoil her again. He’d be super mad, and it wouldn’t be easy to calm him down.

But Abella still didn’t seem to care!

What bugged him more was that his friends, who could’ve reminded Abella, chose not to, just to see him squirm.

By four in the afternoon, he couldn’t take it anymore and called Abella himself.

Abella couldn’t help but laugh, "Grandpa Clarence, I haven’t forgotten. I’ve just been swamped with stuff and haven’t had a chance to check in. I’ll be there on time tomorrow."

"Hmph!" Clarence, like a grumpy kid, was hard to please. "The signal’s bad; I can’t hear you."

"Oh, then never mind. I didn’t say anything important."

"Hey, are you trying to back out? Don’t think I’m old and deaf. I heard you loud and clear—you’ll be there on time tomorrow." Clarence realized he’d fallen for Abella’s trick.

Abella couldn’t help but laugh.

Hearing her laugh, Clarence smiled without even realizing it.

"Abella, don’t you know about respecting your elders and loving the young? Can’t you let me win once?" Clarence said, grinning. "So it’s settled. You gotta come tomorrow! Or I’ll hold a press conference and announce that you agreed to be my student!"
