Chapter 370 The Fox Shows Its Tail

Then, Camila couldn't help but add, "Lola, huh? I happen to know her. I'll call her over right now for a face-to-face."

After saying that, she reached for her phone, about to dial Lola's number.

Sierra snorted, "How could you have Lola's contact information...”

“Miss Medici herself, the richest man’s daughter!”

“She won’t make friends with somebody so easily." Sierra thought to herself.

"Don't try to fool me. I'm a good friend of Lola's; I'd recognize her voice anywhere..."

But before Sierra could finish, Lola's voice came through from Camila's phone.

"Hello? Sis-in-law, what's up?"

Sis-in-law?

Sierra and her three classmates were taken aback. It was undoubtedly Lola's voice!

“But how was this girl Sierra's sister-in-law?”

“If they were family, why would she stand up for Abella?”

“What was really going on here?” They were puzzled.

"I'm at the Medical University. You should come over," Camila cut to the chase without further ado.

"Did you visit the Medical University, sis?" Lola seemed surprised when she heard Camila's tone. Camila sounded slightly displeased. Treading carefully, Lola asked, "Is something wrong?"

"It's nothing. I'm planning to grab some lunch later. Ethan will join me. Are you coming?"

For Lola, any chance to get closer to Ethan and deal with her overbearing sister-in-law was an opportunity she wouldn't miss.

But the thought of Ethan and the sister-in-law visiting Abella at the Medical University before calling her made Lola uncomfortable.

"Where should we meet?" Lola suppressed her irritation.

"West side of the campus field at the Medical University. Come now."

Right now?

Lola was supposed to be at military training...

However, the prospect was too good to pass up, so she ran off to ask for leave from her instructor.

Upon seeing Camila sitting coolly on a nearby landscape rock, Sierra couldn't help but approach and ask, "Are you... really Lola's sister-in-law? Could there be some hidden truth? Is Abella not a Medici family-sponsored student like Lola told me?"

Sierra shook her head instinctively as she spoke, "But why would Lola lie to me? We've been friends since middle school..."

"We'll know who's lying soon enough, won't we?" Without wasting time chatting, Camila pulled out her phone and texted Ethan, "Come over to the Medical University."

Not long after, Ethan called her.

"Did you go to see Abella at the school?"

"Yes, there's been an incident. You better come and witness it."

So that no one could accuse her, the future sister-in-law, of bullying the Medici family's beloved princess for eighteen years.

“An incident?”

“What kind of incident?” Ethan wondered.

He immediately sensed something was wrong. "Did something happen to Abella? Is someone picking on her?"

"Yes."

Someone was indeed picking on her...

"I'll contact the school and handle it right away..."

"No need, it's just family matters," Camila added, "Just get here."

“Family matters? No need for the school's intervention? Just my presence?”

“What did she mean?” Ethan was confused.

Despite his confusion, Ethan quickly agreed.

As he walked downstairs, Mrs. Medici glanced at him, "Ethan, you're just in time. Take advantage of these days off and bring a small gift to the Lotts. We mustn't neglect our manners..."

"Mom, let's talk about this later." Ethan rushed down, ready to leave the living room.

Mrs. Medici was taken aback, "Aren't you supposed to take your sister out for lunch today? Where are you off to in such a hurry? I hope it's not work-related. You made a promise to your sister!"

"Camila's at the Medical University. I'll go check on her."

"Oh..." So he was off to see his girlfriend and sister. No wonder he left in such a hurry.

"Put a softer expression on your face, don't scare the girls..." Mrs. Medici clutched her chest, having thought something terrible had happened upon seeing her son's icy demeanor. How on earth did she raise such a stern son?

Ethan had just entered the family garage and casually picked out a car when his phone vibrated. It was an audio message from Camila.

Out of curiosity, he tapped to listen, and his expression grew colder by the second.

"You just said Abella schemed her way into the Medici family? What do you mean by that? You can mess around with food but not with words."

It was Camila's voice.

It sounded like she was arguing with someone.

"Are you a friend of Abella's? How do you know I'm talking nonsense? You're picking a fight for Abella with the wrong person, at the wrong place."

"I'm not making this up. Lola told me herself! Abella only got into school because of the Medici family's support. Her perfect grades? They're also linked to the Medici family’s backing."

"So there's Abella, relying on her looks and good grades, sweet-talked Mr. and Mrs. Medici with their good, simple hearts into taking her as their goddaughter. She even moved in with the Medici family. Why else would she go by the name Abella Medici?"

Camila let out a laugh of disbelief, "Lola told you that Abella was just another charity case, somebody who sweet-talked her way into being the Medici family's adopted daughter? Is that the story?"

"Isn't that the truth?"

"And which eye of yours saw that sly, charming persona in Abella? She's straightforward, unlike you who always beat around the bush."

"Lola, huh? I happen to know her. I'll call her over right now for a face-to-face."

...

The recording ended there, and Ethan's eyes reflected a complex mix of emotions.

“Lola had always been a well-behaved and obedient child, and although she grew up spoiled and a bit entitled, she never used to spout nonsense like this to her friends...”

“But now, she was claiming Abella was just a sponsored student of the Medici family, someone who moved in because of her sweet talk and became their adopted daughter.”

“Did Lola really not understand who the true daughter of the family was, and who was merely an adopted daughter?”

“What kind of damage could it inflict on Abella if Lola was out there spreading wild rumors about Abella?” Ethan thought to himself.

It seemed that Camila had stumbled upon her classmates badmouthing Abella and had confronted them about it. Camila even went as far as calling him over and knowing her personality; it wouldn't be a surprise if she also summoned Lola for a face-to-face showdown.

Suddenly, the words Phillipe had once said echoed in Ethan’s mind, and his heart felt as though it was being squeezed by an invisible giant hand.

"Trust me, the nastier stuff wasn't even caught on tape. People were saying Abella had some powerful connections and that she managed to chase away the Allen sisters. They called her petty, and there were whispers about her being kept by some old man, kissing him by the school gates..."

What sort of nonsense was being spread around?

Ethan was getting angry, "Who's spreading all this?"

Could it all be related to Lola?

"I don't know, but you should just come here," Camila didn't want to talk right now and simply told him to drive safely.
