Chapter 624 Finally Found It
The IV needle was out.
Where did she go?
"Nicole!" Winston burst out the door, asking the nurse on the floor, "Where's the patient from room 308?"
"I don't know."
Last night, Nicole was moved from the ICU to a regular room. It was early morning shift change, and no one noticed her leave.
Winston was panicking. He remembered Nicole mentioning something about the ICU entrance yesterday.
She must've overheard his conversation with his parents and decided to leave.
He frantically pressed the elevator button. Seeing it stuck on the 21st floor, he bolted down the stairs, calling out, "Nicole!"
The place was crowded, and snow was falling heavily, blocking his view. "Nicole!"
Winston's eyes were red. He couldn't find her anywhere.
Ignoring the biting cold, he pulled out his phone and kept dialing Nicole's number.
The system kept saying: 'Sorry, the number you dialed is turned off.'
Her phone was off.
She was unreachable again!
Tears welled up in Winston's eyes. It felt just like when she disappeared before.
He was frantic, not knowing where to look.
'If Nicole wants to leave, will she go back to Moon Bay to pack?' With that thought, Winston rushed out of the hospital and almost got hit by a taxi. He opened the front passenger door. "Moon Bay, hurry."
The driver looked confused. "Sorry, sir, there's already a passenger in the back."
Winston turned and saw a mother with a feverish child.
The young woman, seeing Winston's desperate look, quickly got out with her child.
"Driver, hurry up." Winston called the servants at Moon Bay. "Has Nicole come back?"
"Huh? Ms. Nelson? I haven't seen her," the servant replied, hearing Winston's anxious tone. "I'll check around."
The villa was big, and Nicole could easily avoid the servants.
"If you see her, stop her."
"Yes."
After hanging up, Winston urged the driver to go faster. The driver sighed, "This is already the fastest."
Finally at Moon Bay, Winston rushed in and grabbed a servant. "Has Nicole come back?"
"No, I checked the surveillance. She hasn't."
"Are her clothes and stuff still there?"
"Yes, everything's there."
Winston ran to the bedroom. Everything was in place.
Remembering the surveillance, he realized he had been too flustered to check it earlier.
He hacked into the hospital's surveillance and saw Nicole leaving alone through the fire escape while he was out getting breakfast.
No one in the corridor had noticed her.
There were no cameras in the fire escape.
But he hadn't seen Nicole on his way down.
So, where did she go?
Winston hacked into the first-floor surveillance and saw that Nicole hadn't shown up there.
Nor was she on the rooftop.
The more he checked, the more anxious he got. There were blind spots in the hospital's surveillance, and with Nicole's skills, she could easily avoid the cameras.
Winston called his team. "Watch the train station and airport for Nicole. If you see her, stop her. She might be in disguise, so remember her face and don't let her leave Empire Vista City!"
"Got it."
"And don't hurt her. Wait for me to get there."
"Understood."
After hanging up, Winston thought of Patricia and Diana in the morgue. 'Could Nicole have gone to see them?'
He rushed back to the hospital, but the morgue was empty.
Tears welled up in his eyes.
Where had Nicole gone?
Despair, pain, and fear hit him all at once. He somehow managed to dial Abella's number.
"Abella, has Nicole contacted you?" Winston's voice was choked with tears. "She..."
"Nicole? She's right in front of me. What's going on with you two?" Abella noticed Winston's distress.
Winston, in disbelief, asked, "Where are you?"
"In the small pavilion in the hospital's first-floor garden." Abella had just seen Nicole standing alone in the pavilion when Winston called.
"Wait there. I'm coming." Before hanging up, Winston added, "Keep an eye on her, don't let her leave."
Abella was puzzled but had some guesses. After ending the call, she draped her coat over Nicole.
"You're not fully recovered. Don't catch a cold, or Winston will be heartbroken."
Nicole tried to return the coat, but Abella forced it back on her, pretending to be stern. "I don't have time to save you again."
Nicole smiled faintly. "Thank you."
"Thank Rodolfo. He helped a lot."
Rodolfo had rushed to deliver the antidote to the ICU entrance, saving Nicole's life just in time.
Without that antidote, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
"What happened between you and Winston?" Abella asked, seeing Nicole's downcast look. "Did you have a fight?"
Nicole gave a pale smile and shook her head.
She wanted to explain, but Winston wouldn't give her the chance.
"Nicole." From a distance, Winston saw Nicole wearing Abella's coat, standing in the pavilion.
Snowflakes were falling. Winston draped his coat over Abella and, with red eyes, asked Nicole, "Where did you go? Do you know how worried I was?"
Before Nicole could speak, Winston picked her up.
"It's so cold. What if you catch a cold?" Winston carried her towards the ward, his eyes red and glistening with tears, his voice choked. "If Abella hadn't found you, where would I have looked for you?"
Nicole looked into his eyes. "Were you crying?"
