Chapter 337 Uninvited Guest!
In front of the signature, Abella added a note, which read in full: ‘Always loving you, Abella (Anika Moses).’
The elder's face broke into a wide smile upon seeing this, and she had Scott immediately find a picture frame to mount the paper.
"My dear," Mr. Bourbon interjected, "that's enough now. The children are hungry; let them have their dinner first..."
His words fell on deaf ears.
Granny Bourbon, having framed Abella's autograph, placed the picture frame on the bedside table and even had Phillipe help with taking a photo of her and Abella together...
Mr. Bourbon hastily added, "I want to be in it too, I want to take a photo with you as well..."
"Step aside for a moment," Granny Bourbon said, wanting to take some pictures alone with Abella.
Mr. Bourbon, with a weary twist of his mouth, stood aside. Watching his wife hugging their granddaughter-in-law and beaming joyfully at the camera, he suddenly felt a pinch of envy for the young woman...
Since his wife had woken up, he hadn't had such a close moment with her.
After the photos were taken, Phillipe, seeming to have a conscience, said to his somewhat mixed-feelings grandfather, "Grandpa, it's your turn now."
Mr. Bourbon, suddenly called upon, lit up like a child in delight.
But the next second, Phillipe handed him the phone, saying, "Help me take a few with Grandma and Abella."
Mr. Bourbon was perplexed. Was he not included again? He wondered in astonishment.
"Actually, Scott could help us take the photo..." Mr. Bourbon wanted to join in.
But Granny Bourbon disagreed, "There's no extra room here."
Extra... He felt superfluous... was he now an extra he wondered.
With her left arm around Abella and her right around Phillipe, Granny Bourbon took the photo beaming and then said, "Alright, Scott, tell the kitchen to serve the food. Abella must be hungry..."
"My dear, it's my turn to be in a photo!" Mr. Bourbon insisted on squeezing into the middle, directing Scott, "Hurry, hurry, take a few shots for me!"
If he delayed any further, his wife might not cooperate.
Scott quickly pressed the shutter button, and in the frame, Mr. Bourbon joyfully flashed a 'yea' sign, as if taking a photo with his awakened wife was the utmost joy...
“My dear, I’ll wheel you down to have dinner with the kids..." Mr. Bourbon personally lifted his wife into the wheelchair.
Phillipe and Scott offered to help but were waved off by him, "Go on, I'm not so old that I can’t carry her... my own wife, even if you gained another twenty pounds, I could still lift you..."
"Don't mention twenty pounds, if I gained five more, you'd probably throw out your back..." Granny Bourbon could see he was struggling a bit to lift her.
"Nonsense, no matter how much you weigh, it’s fine! I'll strengthen myself even more from now on..." Mr. Bourbon said and then turned to Scott, "Scott, you'll supervise my workouts!"
"Yes, sir..." the butler agreed.
The family of four, chatting and laughing, made their way downstairs, where a sumptuous dinner was spread across the table.
"Grandpa, this is too much..." Abella could see there were at least twenty dishes laid out, far too many for just the four of them to finish.
Each dish, not only made with hard-to-find ingredients, but also a test of a chef's culinary skills...
It could only be said that this dinner was extravagantly lavish.
"Your grandma insisted that the first dinner with our granddaughter-in-law should not be anything less than perfect..." Mr. Bourbon said gleefully.
Granny Bourbon personally handed a fork to Abella.
Abella looked at her hands, trembling with frailty. Although she hadn't fully recovered yet, the elderly woman still wanted to do something for her granddaughter-in-law.
A warmth filled Abella's heart as she took the fork, "Thank you, Grandma."
"When you first came, your grandpa must have told you to treat River Park like your own home... Today, Grandma says the same to you, be at ease here, eat whatever you want, and speak up if there's anything you're not satisfied with..."
After Granny Bourbon finished speaking, she turned to Phillipe, "Phillipe, serve Abella more dishes. You know her tastes well, give her an extra helping."
"I will." Phillipe looked at Abella tenderly.
Abella could feel the affection from the two elders, especially from Grandma who, despite her feebleness and needing to be fed, still insisted on tremblingly offering Abella food...
Moved, Abella said, "Grandma, you don't need to trouble yourself, I can manage..."
The meal concluded in a harmonious and cordial atmosphere...
Suddenly, Abella thought, if only the Wilson family could have had such an atmosphere, even just a little, would the outcome have been different...
It was as if Phillipe saw through her thoughts, softly he said, "The Wilson family isn't your home any longer, this is."
Abella lifted her gaze, surprised at how he could be so certain of what she was thinking.
"Those two from the Wilson family are like ingratitude personified, never satisfied no matter what you do. Such an atmosphere is impossible there, so there can be no 'what if's."
They simply implied that everything was fated.
Taken aback at first, Abella's eyes softened. She hadn't expected him to understand her thoughts so clearly.
After the meal, Granny Bourbon, in high spirits, invited Abella to the parlor for tea.
However, Abella could see that her energy was flagging; she planned to leave after finishing her cup of tea, to let Grandma rest a while.
Just then, Scott stepped forward to report, "Sir, Madam, Mr. Allen has heard that the Madam has awakened and has come over especially to visit."
"Mr. Allen is here?" Mr. Bourbon smiled and asked Scott to let him in.
"As we have a guest, Grandfather, I shall..." Abella tried to say.
Just as Abella was about to excuse herself, she saw Mr. Bourbon wave his hand and say, "Hold on, this is a good time for introductions... don't rush off, I want Mr. Allen to envy me for having a granddaughter-in-law, haha..."
As Scott led a venerable looking old gentleman inside, a young girl followed behind him.
The girl appeared to be only seventeen or eighteen, with long, straight black hair cascading over her shoulders, her skin fairer than snow, and her eyes carried a proud, cold haughtiness, which took the people present by surprise.
“Calla came to celebrate my birthday, and as we were enjoying ourselves, we heard that Madam Bourbon had awoken. We thought we'd rush over to see for ourselves..."
Mr. Allen had not anticipated that the old dame would indeed be radiant and seated at the sofa's prime spot, even greeting him.
"Please, have a seat, have a seat..." Mr. Bourbon invited them to sit down. "My wife’s awakening this time, we owe a great deal to my granddaughter-in-law!"
"Oh, granddaughter-in-law???" Mr. Allen took a glance at the girl next to him, prettier even than his own granddaughter, with delicate features and an ethereal quality.
Abella also smiled and exchanged greetings with him and his grand-daughter.
Mr. Allen was a bit perplexed; wasn't the Bourbon family engaged with the Medici family, and wasn't Phillipe supposed to marry that Lola?
How did the arrangement suddenly change to this girl? Mr. Allen wondered.
Who is this young lady, more beautiful than that Lola, possessing a pleasant temperament and voice...
But her social standing is unknown, yet she has managed to bypass Lola and be with Phillipe...
Could it be some trickery at play behind the scenes...
With these thoughts, Mr. Allen's impression of Abella soured somewhat...
However, the girl looked at Abella with arrogance, a hint of hostility in her gaze.
