Chapter 598 Giving Gifts
"Abella's a smart kid. She knew keeping you here would cause trouble, but she did it anyway," James said.
Lola's eyes widened, tears streaming down her face.
"Dr. Long is behind your grandma's illness. He sees Abella as his mentor. When he hits tough cases, he consults her, and out of respect, she comes to see the patient. I didn't even know she was my niece when she came," James explained.
Lola was shocked to learn it was Mark who invited Abella, not her parents.
Abella was Abbott, the Medical Authority who could handle any tricky condition!
"When your parents saw Abella here, I realized my niece had grown up so much," James smiled warmly. "She even saved my life once."
Lola was surprised at the coincidences.
James wasn't one to lie.
So, her parents hadn't kept it from her; she had overthought it?
"You said my niece came, saved me, and her grandma. With the holidays coming up, shouldn't we let her stay a few days?" James asked.
That made sense.
But why did everything seem so frustrating before?
"For eighteen years, everyone spent Christmas with you, but Abella only has this one day, and you still caused trouble," James smiled, leaving Lola speechless.
Indeed, her presence had upset everyone.
"Winston told me they gave you your gift before Abella's."
Winston had promised to go shopping with Lola but canceled last minute because of Nicole.
Maria said Lola had bought Christmas gifts for everyone, spending $5.2 million.
Winston transferred $6 million to her, reminding her to buy more for herself.
Lola had said no need for more gifts and asked Winston to buy for Abella instead.
But Winston said, "You and Abella are both my sisters. Neither of you will be left out."
So, he had already sent gifts to Lola.
But Lola was shocked. Did all five brothers send her gifts? Why hadn't she received any?
"Don't look at the expensive gifts for Abella," James said, smiling. "You've received plenty over the years."
Lola felt a bit ashamed.
"Do you like the gift I sent you?" James asked.
Lola was shocked again. 'Uncle James sent me a gift? Why haven't I seen it?'
"Haven't opened it yet?" James smiled gracefully. "Go back and open it. If you don't like it, let me know."
Lola really hadn't received any gifts. Did the servants put them in her room?
Why didn't they tell her?
She thought everyone had forgotten her.
"And," James added, "your parents had a surprise for you. If you hadn't come here, you'd be watching fireworks at the Manor right now."
Lola's eyes widened. 'Fireworks just for me?'
She felt a mix of emotions, unsure whether to be happy or guilty.
Aimee knocked on the window, grinning. "Mr. Harris, Ms. Abella Medici is..."
She stopped mid-sentence, seeing Lola with James. 'Why is Lola here? Is she causing trouble?'
"What's up with Abella?" James asked calmly.
James was impressive, staying so composed.
"Ms. Abella Medici is in the living room handing out gifts," Aimee said, worried Lola might cause trouble for Abella.
"Let's go," James stood up, gently placing his hand on Lola's chair. "I've arranged some programs. It'd be a shame to miss them."
Lola nodded and followed him.
"If Abella didn't get you a gift, don't mind. Your tone earlier wasn't friendly," James reminded as he walked.
Lola felt embarrassed and nodded. "Uncle James, I won't be as childish as before."
Last time, she had sent Abella a cheap bracelet as a Christmas gift.
Even if Abella didn't give her a return gift, she wouldn't mind.
"Dad, Mom, these are for you." Abella, as the painter Saint Cordelia, painted two pieces and, as the calligraphy master Magnolia, wrote a piece for Steven's office.
"Ethan, this is for you." Abella handed Ethan a tiny note.
Everyone looked at Ethan sympathetically because the note was really small!
Ethan hadn't expected just a small note, but since it was from Abella, he was touched. He ruffled her hair and said, "Thanks, Abella."
He opened the note and saw leads on his recent investigations.
How did Abella know about such confidential matters?
Abella smiled brightly. "You also get a share of the paintings."
She had hidden them earlier to see Ethan's disappointed reaction, but he had been indulgent.
Even with just a small note, Ethan hadn't blamed her.
She whispered in his ear, "I found out Camila's father likes Cordelia's paintings."
Ethan was touched.
"What are you two talking about? I want to hear too," Blake leaned in, and Abella handed him two rolled-up A4 papers.
The servants laughed, sympathizing with Blake.
Blake's heart sank. At least Steven and Ethan got paintings, and he only got two A4 papers?
But when he opened them, they were two freshly composed pieces of music.
They were tailor-made for him by Abella!
He hummed, finding the melody catchy. It would definitely be a hit!
