Chapter 283 A moment to take care of them for you
Later, at 7:00 PM, Abella attended the charity dinner accompanied by the Medici couple. The dinner was initiated and founded by a prominent figure in New York many years ago. It was held once a year, and after his death, his daughter took over and had been organizing it for seventeen years now.
The aim of the dinner, each year, was to help children in remote areas, assisting them with issues such as food, education, and healthcare. Those who attend are from the upper-class circles in New York, not open to the public. The attendees are all influential and powerful individuals.
This is the Medici couple's seventeenth year attending, but what's different this year is that they brought their biological daughter, who instantly captivated the entire venue upon arrival.
Abella exuded an elegant aura, her black evening gown making her appear both cool and noble, like an unattainable queen. She walked into the venue with Mr. Medici.
Mr. Medici arrived at the scene with Mrs. Medici on his right arm, instantly attracting the attention of the entire room. Many guests were curious, wondering who she was and how she seemed to have a close relationship with the Medici family.
As soon as the event organizer, Violet, saw them, she hurriedly approached to greet them. "Abella, you finally came! I was worried you wouldn't." Seeing Abella holding hands with the Medici couple, Violet couldn't help but be curious. "Do you know each other?"
Judging by their close proximity, it seemed pretty good. After all, Abella, with her cold and distant personality, wouldn't willingly hold hands with them if they weren't close. They had such an intimate gesture.
Upon hearing Violet's words, both Mr. and Mrs. Medici were taken aback. How did Violet know Abella? They wondered about Abella's connections and just how extensive they were. It was worth noting that Violet Turner was the powerful figure of the Turner family.
Since her father's passing, she had single-handedly managed the family's century-old business and thrived in the business world. In her forties, she looked competent and domineering, her eyes sharp with a merchant's shrewdness.
"They must be your relatives, right?" Violet was clever and immediately guessed their relationship.
Abella nodded, not hiding anything. "Yes, they're my parents."
"It seems my guess was correct..." Violet smiled and shook hands with Mr. Medici, then embraced Mrs. Medici. "I'm glad you could join us again this year for the dinner hosted by my family.”
“I never thought you'd be Abella's biological parents. Abella suffered quite a lot with the Wilson family before, but from now on, you have to treat her well and make it up to her."
Mrs. Medici was puzzled. "How do you know my daughter?"
"It's a long story." Violet smiled. "I'll make it short."
It happened several years ago when Violet, who lacked nothing, had a dream one day. She dreamt of herself wearing an extremely magnificent and fantastic dress. The next day, she sought out the founder of QY, which had just gained fame. She insisted that QY make a dress exactly like the one in her head.
At the time, Abella had bluntly told her that the dress didn't suit her, and the final product turned out to be incredibly ugly, and a complete waste of time. Violet didn't believe her and insisted that Abella make it. When Abella refused, a conflict arose between them.
Later, Violet went through great lengths to find others to produce the dress, but the final product turned out to be terribly ugly as well. She didn't even have the desire to keep it, so she simply threw it away.
After that, she fell ill and sought out renowned doctors everywhere. Eventually, through her connections, she managed to invite a famous and respected physician, only to find out that it was Abella again.
They grew close, and Violet wanted to adopt Abella as her daughter. However, Abella refused to call her ‘mom’ and, in the end, Violet became so insistent that Abella started calling her ‘aunt.’
To this day, Violet still cherished the idea of having Abella as her daughter, but because she was unmarried and without any siblings, she settled on treating her as her own niece.
"Sorry for not getting your parents' consent before forcibly making Abella my niece!" Violet giggled happily, "The main reason is that I really like her. She's genuine, not fake, capable, and doesn't show off. Basically, I like everything about her."
Mr. Medici couldn't believe how well connected his daughter was in high society. Mr. Walker wanted to be her grandfather, while Violet wanted to be her aunt.
And when he considered his daughter's multiple identities over the years, he realized how much effort she had to put in to make it look effortless. This made Mr. Medici even more tender-hearted.
"I invited you to attend the Turner family's banquet and you didn't come for three years. But now you come all of a sudden, all thanks to our parents' influence on you!" Violet playfully expressed a faux envy.
"You're pretending again!" Abella saw through her act in an instant.
Violet chuckled and placed her hand on Abella's shoulder. "I specially had the Johnson family invited tonight. I'll cause trouble for them on your behalf."
A question mark popped up in Abella's mind. "I'm not acquainted with them."
"I heard that as soon as that guy from the Wilson family returned, he immediately fell out of love with you and started dating Isla. Anyway, today, I won't let them off easily," Violet said before raising her eyebrows at Abella.
"I heard that the Wilson family was invited as guests tonight. We'll deal with them together."
Seeing her excitement, Abella couldn't help but remind her, "Don't go too far."
"Don't worry," Violet patted her shoulder. "You just enjoy yourself! I prepare your favorite pastries every year. When I heard you were coming tonight, I had them prepare even more. Did you see those big tables over there? They're all filled with your favorite treats."
Abella was amused by her playful expression. "If you keep smiling like that, your reputation will be ruined." After all, she had always been a strict and serious person in front of employees.
"I'm just joking with my own kid. What if anyone says anything!" Violet said before looking back at Mr. and Mrs. Medici, returning to her usual smile. "Well then, Mr. Medici, Mrs. Medici, feel free to do as you please. I'll go attend to the other guests."
"Alright..." Mrs. Medici was surprised but also a bit envious of the familiar bond between her daughter and Violet. She also wanted to chat and get close to Abella like that, but she was afraid Abella would think she wasn't mature enough.
"Abella, you have so many seniors and mentors taking care of you in the business field. When you have the time, you can invite them over to the house and give your parents a chance to thank them properly."
"Okay." As soon as Abella finished speaking, many more guests arrived. Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici exchanged greetings, while others took the opportunity to inquire about Abella’s identity.
"I am here on behalf of QY," Abella did not elaborate, but the guests couldn't help but get closer to her upon hearing the name QY.
Several guests approached in twos and threes, engaging in small talk. Abella always, found an excuse to break away, and went to the table prepared by Violet, picking up a pastry and taking a bite.
