Chapter 368 Laying It All Out
Lola was livid.
"Don't come at me with your double-talk; I'm not your second brother, and I'm not buying it."
"Do you know why I'm texting you? Because I'm taking screenshots. Don't even think about deleting any messages to make it look like I'm the bully. After all, playing the victim is something you lot excel at."
"You..." Lola was enraged, unable to come up with a comeback.
"And do you know why I like Abella? Because she's genuine, sincere, humbly confident, and smart without being pretentious. She doesn't stir trouble or be jealous of others... Take a leaf out of her book."
Finally, Camila added, "If you want to badmouth her, don't bother sending me a WhatsApp message ever again."
Fuming, Lola immediately blocked Camila!
Violently tossing her phone onto the table, Lola seethed, her chest heaving until she calmed down. But then, thinking twice, she unblocked Camila’s contact...
“After all, she’s from a family of such stature, and she could prove useful by maintaining connections with her...”
“But Camila, thinking she could look down on every one since she’s dating Ethan. She should throw her scornful jibes at me...” Lola thought to herself.
Lola's eyes gleamed coldly as she pondered, “If Ethan doesn't like her anymore...”
Meanwhile.
Outside the college gates parked a luxury sedan.
A tall man stood beside it, brazenly kissing a girl's face as if no one else existed.
"Mmm... Phillipe, that's enough..." Abella's legs turned to jelly because of his kiss, and as they parted, she realized that they had attracted a crowd, which made her blush.
"Isn't that Abella, the top student from the medical program?"
"I think so, only she matches the description of that beauty and height..."
"Who's the guy? He's got a handsome profile and long legs."
"Is he a student here?"
"Do we even have guys that hot at our school?"
"It's just too dark to get a good look..." People talked about the couple.
Fortunately, the foot traffic in and out of the campus was sparse in the evening, so no one managed to guess Phillipe's identity.
Abella looked up at the man before her and said, "I'm going inside now."
"Abella." Phillipe was still savoring their recent kiss, his eyes filled with reluctance. "Call me when you get to your dorm."
"Okay."
"Stay away from the other guys at school."
"...." Abella couldn't help but retort, "Of course I will."
Not long after stepping onto the campus, Abella's phone rang. It was Ethan.
"Abella, you back at school yet?"
"Yeah, Ethan."
"Is anyone with you? Got anything to tell me?" His voice over the phone was coaxing.
"Ha?" Abella was puzzled, "Tell you what?"
"Your sister-in-law works for the Homeland Security department as a deputy secretary. How'd you get close to her, let alone hurt her?"
Abella hadn't expected Ethan's call to be about her secret identity.
She bluffed, "Well, she was distracted, thinking about you. That's how I got my chance."
"The injury on her arm... it must be from blocking your kick."
Ethan had seen Camila's arm injury; it wasn't an ordinary injury.
“The force behind Abella's kick was far from ordinary either,” he thought.
“Well,”
“If I can't keep it a secret...” Abella thought to herself.
Just as Abella was about to come clean, Ethan gently interjected, "I'm not prying into your personal life. I’m just concerned about your safety. Whatever you're into, if it's dangerous and you need help, you can count on me to sort it out."
Abella felt a warmth inside, "Don't worry, Ethan. I'm safe; it's not dangerous."
"That's good. I won't pressure you if you don't want to talk about it." Through the phone, Ethan could almost envision her obedient expression. His little sister was always so well-behaved. How could she be involved in anything risky?
He was probably just overthinking it...
"I will pick you up from school tomorrow. We'll go somewhere fun. Get some rest tonight."
He had already notified the military training staff. There'd be no tough exercises coming up.
"Okay, good night, Ethan."
"Good night."
After hanging up, Abella thought for a moment before sending a WhatsApp message.
Ethan's phone lit up, and his eyes brightened, seeing his little sister had sent him a message.
“She was opening up to him voluntarily!” He was excited.
"I built a small team in The Triangle, doing a sideline for some extra cash. It's nothing harmful or dangerous."
Ethan was surprised that his sister chose to come clean. The Triangle?
How did his obedient little sister get involved with a team there?
As he pondered this, another message from her arrived, just two words, "Keep secret."
Ethan quickly sent an 'OK' emoji followed by a thumbs-up after giving it some thought.
He called in a favor to learn more and then showed a wry smile.
“Small team?”
“A gang counting thousands is far from small...”
“A sideline?”
“Word is they deal in major transactions...”
“Just making some extra cash?”
“Their monthly take is easily in the six figures...” he thought.
Suddenly, Ethan realized that the pocket money he offered his sister was embarrassingly inadequate...
He never imagined his little sister would turn out to be the notorious boss of The A Gang in The Triangle, known as “Boss A”...
“What had she gone through these years to ascend as a gang boss in The Triangle, a place that chews you up and spits you out without a second thought?”
“And how did she manage to command so much respect?” Ethan wondered.
He knew exactly what kind of place The Triangle was; Camila barely got out after her last visit there...
“Speaking of the person who rescued Camila, according to her, it’s someone who bears resemblance to Abella.”
“Could it be that it was Abella?”
“Did Camila know about this??” Ethan continued to wonder.
...
The next morning, after military training, Abella received a call from Camila.
"Abella, I'm at your school~. Which dorm are you in? I'll come to find you~."
Having just finished lunch, Abella replied calmly, "I’m on my way past the west gate. Which gate are you near? I'll come get you."
"No need, no need, I'm also at the west gate! Where are you?" Camila looked around excitedly, "I see you! Here! Right here!"
Abella spotted Camila right away at the school entrance, surrounded by what appeared to be gifts.
"Sis-in-law, what brings you here today? And with so many things?" Abella approached Camila, introducing her to her dorm mates, "This is my sister-in-law."
"Oh my gosh, your sister-in-law is so young and beautiful!"
"We met your brother Ethan yesterday. He's so handsome! Does your whole family have to be that good-looking? Way above average!"
...
Camila was even happier to hear praise for Ethan than for herself.
"Hello everyone, are all students this good-looking nowadays? You all are so beautiful!" Camila exclaimed as she picked up the various packages from the ground.
"Sis-in-law, this is too much," Abella protested, knowing Camila had once again spared no expense.
"It's nothing, just some gifts for you and your friends."
Camila had to keep a low profile given her unique status; being accompanied by bodyguards or maids would only draw unwanted attention to her father...
So she'd shop alone, taking a cab to the school.
She was particularly down to earth.
