Chapter 988 It Was Phillipe

"What's wrong?" Henry rushed over after finishing his business, finding Lola clutching her old artwork and sobbing inconsolably. He immediately reprimanded the nearby servants. "Who gave you permission to bring Lola here?"

These items were Lola's precious memories. He couldn't bear to see the Medici family discard them like trash, so he'd preserved them for her. He'd planned to wait until Lola's emotional state improved before revealing their existence. The servants bringing her here so soon was like pouring salt on an open wound.

"We're so sorry, sir. We had no idea these things would upset Ms. Medici," Briar and Celestia apologized profusely, bowing deeply in their guilt.

"Everyone out." Henry dismissed them curtly, then knelt gently before Lola, tenderly wiping the tears from her face, unsure how to explain.

Lola gazed at the sunflower painting she'd created as a child. Dennis had once hung it proudly on his bedroom wall, treasuring it with such care and pride. Now it lay here, pitifully abandoned by the very person who'd once cherished it.

Through her tears, Lola discovered jade rings and bracelets she'd given to her grandparents—all discarded here as well. "They threw these away too?" Her heart ached so intensely she could barely breathe. These precious, exquisite pieces—didn't they hesitate for even a moment?

Had even her grandparents lost all faith in her? These treasures had once been inseparable from them, worn daily with such devotion and care.

"They put these up for auction and donated all the proceeds to charity, claiming they wanted to do some good," Henry reluctantly revealed the truth, though it pained him. "I had someone bid on all of them."

Given his position, he couldn't appear publicly. At the auction two days prior, he'd arranged for every single item to be purchased.

Lola was overwhelmed by Henry's quiet devotion and threw her arms around him. In the entire world, it seemed only he would love her this deeply.

"There's more—your bank accounts have been frozen. The Medici family claims they've given you enough over the years, and since they earned that money, they're leaving it all to Abella."

Lola was stunned. She hadn't realized that all the money she and Maria had painstakingly raised by selling her properties, cars, clothes, and accessories had been frozen and would ultimately go to Abella. She was left with absolutely nothing.

"But don't worry—all my cards are yours to use. Every cent I earn belongs to you," Henry comforted her.

Lola couldn't find words to describe her current emotions. She never imagined the Medici family could be so ruthlessly thorough, completely severing all ties upon discovering she wasn't their biological daughter.

After a long while, Lola finally looked up and asked, "What else are you hiding from me?"

How many more shocking revelations awaited her? Since awakening, she'd been blindsided by one devastating truth after another.

"There is one more thing." Henry feared she couldn't handle it, but after studying her eyes for a long moment, he continued. "Remember when you said Elsa had someone throw a sack over your head and beat you? I had her dealt with afterward. She recently recovered from her injuries, and her mother Margaret has been investigating. She confronted me recently."

"Margaret came after you? She knows you were behind it?"

Lola was surprised by Margaret's capabilities. Given Henry's resources, he shouldn't have been discovered so quickly. How had Margaret traced it back to him?

"She didn't exactly confront me—she just informed me that her daughter Elsa wasn't the one who had you beaten. We got the wrong person."

Lola was clearly skeptical. Who else would hate her that much besides Elsa?

Henry paused before continuing, "She said it was Phillipe who ordered it."

Lola was completely stunned, unable to believe what she was hearing.

"She has concrete evidence proving Phillipe was behind it." Henry watched her eyes carefully as he spoke, terrified she couldn't handle the truth, especially given how deeply she'd once loved Phillipe.

"No, that's impossible." Lola shook her head, unable to convince herself. How could it have been Phillipe? He would never do such a thing. Even if he disliked her, there was no reason to have her beaten so brutally.

"That night you bullied Abella, Phillipe wanted revenge for her. It's not surprising at all."

Henry recalled that evening's events—Lola had indeed been in the wrong. Even with his capabilities, he couldn't really challenge Phillipe. And even if he could, he couldn't seek retribution when Lola had been at fault first. Everything had to be reasonable.

"It was really him?" Lola gripped Henry with her bandaged hands, asking desperately, "The evidence is genuine?"

Henry nodded. "It was him."

Lola's hands fell limply to her sides. She never imagined Phillipe's disgust for her ran so deep. She'd always assumed his distance was because of Abella, and had even found his restraint admirable. She never realized that in Phillipe's heart, he truly despised her—that's why he kept his distance and spoke so coldly to her.

"Previously, the friendship between the Bourbon and Medici families kept Phillipe from acting openly. But things are different now—you're no longer connected to the Medici family. We need to keep a low profile from now on. The priority is healing your injuries. Let the past stay in the past."

Henry stroked her head gently, wheeling her away from the room. As he locked the door behind them, he added, "Your past is behind this door now. It's time to look forward."

Tears streamed down Lola's face as a torrent of emotions overwhelmed her, too complex to describe.

Meanwhile, at Long Island Manor, Abella had delighted her brothers and the household staff the previous evening by gifting them skincare products and medicinal ointments.
