Chapter 1082 The Truth of That Year

The driver's wife was still worried. "You're not gonna hold my husband responsible, are you?"

She was concerned that Melanie's family might come after them for medical expenses, nursing fees, and other costs since the accident happened because her husband fell asleep at the wheel.

Melanie was driving fast, but within the speed limit, without any violations, so the responsibility mainly lay with her husband.

"I checked the road surveillance. Your husband's car was definitely swerving, like he was dozing off."

Before Cecil could finish, the driver's wife quickly interjected, "He's been driving for twelve years and has never fallen asleep at the wheel! He goes to bed early every night to make sure he's alert for driving the next day."

She continued, "My husband works as a driver for an orchard. The orchard is in the countryside, covering a large area with all kinds of fruits. Every morning, workers pick the freshest fruits, and my husband drives the truck to deliver them to various fruit stores in the city. Because the orchard's fruits are fresh and cheap, many store owners prefer to order from them."

She added, "We live in the countryside, not far from the orchard. Every morning at seven, my husband leaves home to go to work, helps load the fruits onto the truck, and delivers them to the city stores. He usually finishes the last delivery around five or six in the evening, then drives the truck back home, and we have dinner together as a family of seven."

The driver's wife described, "Last night, he was driving home as usual, but I never expected an accident on the mountain road."

Tears welled up in her eyes again. "That mountain road leads to our home. He's been driving it for twelve years. I never imagined this would happen."

"So, his driving route has never changed?" Cecil picked up on something.

"There's only that one mountain road to get back to the orchard. Usually, he parks the truck at the orchard and walks home, which takes about six or seven minutes."

Cecil asked, "Do you think there's any chance he fell asleep at the wheel?"

"I think it's impossible. I'm not just defending my husband; his driving skills and professionalism make it unlikely for him to doze off while driving."

Cecil asked again, "I heard you crying outside earlier. It seems like your family is under a lot of financial pressure? I don't mean to offend, but I want to know, based on your understanding of your husband, is there any chance he would risk his life for money?"

The driver's wife immediately denied it, "No way! My husband would never do something so harmful. A long time ago, my husband's dad was in the ICU, and the treatment costs were astronomical. Someone suggested my husband sell a kidney, but he firmly refused."

She explained, "It's not that he's afraid of dying; he wants to stay healthy and earn money steadily. He doesn't want to have health issues and burden our children when he's old. We've endured all kinds of hardships, so there's no way he would take money and cause an accident for your girlfriend."

"I'm sorry." Cecil felt genuinely apologetic after hearing her explanation.

"My husband is very responsible. We have elderly, sick parents and three young kids. He would never abandon us," The driver's wife said, wiping her tears. "So, I really think his death is suspicious."

"Would you agree to an autopsy? If someone drugged him, we can find out who wanted to harm my girlfriend. If he fell asleep on his own, I won't hold you responsible. Regardless of the reason, if you agree to the autopsy, I'll give you a million dollars. How about that?"

The driver's wife was stunned by the amount.

The young man in front of her seemed very wealthy.

"Cash," Cecil added.

The driver's wife nodded in shock. "Okay, I agree."

The money was one thing, but she couldn't let her husband die in vain. If someone really poisoned him, she had to seek justice for her husband!

Abella received a message from Tony and smiled slightly as she headed to the basement.

Sam was resting after tiring himself out. He hadn't expected Scorpion to be so tough, refusing to reveal any information despite the beatings.

"So, you work for Jacob because he saved your parents. After they died, he treated you like his own son, so you started working for him?"

Abella's words made Scorpion look up at her, surprised she had found out so quickly.

"But what you don't know is, your biological parents were killed by him."

Scorpion's eyes showed disbelief.

"Years ago, your parents took you on a boat to leave Pinewood. Shortly after departure, assassins ambushed the boat. Your parents were outnumbered and severely injured. You were also hurt and fell unconscious, forcing the boat to return to shore."

"When you woke up, Jacob told you he was your parents' friend and showed you photos. He said he would give them a proper burial and took you to pay respects. Later, he trained you, saying you could avenge your parents once you were skilled enough."

Memories flooded Scorpion's mind, and his eyes, once lifeless, now showed emotional turmoil.

"So, you became Jacob's puppet, working for him to repay his kindness."

Abella's gaze remained calm. "But you didn't know the assassins on the boat were sent by Jacob. Your parents wanted to leave the organization after completing one last task for him. Jacob changed his mind and decided to kill them. Your parents found out and fled with you, but Jacob didn't intend to let you go. He sent assassins both on the boat and onshore, ensuring all three of you would die."

Scorpion's emotions grew intense, and he finally spoke, "You're lying!"

"The grave is actually empty. I had it dug up, and there were only two coffins, no bodies." Abella showed him photos on her phone.

Scorpion didn't believe it, struggling madly, wanting to kill the girl in front of him. "You desecrated my parents' grave, disturbing their peace. Let me go, I want to kill you."
