Chapter 528 Sorry

"You know, my heart belongs to Nicole."

Before Winston could finish, Clara cut in, "Winston, was it the videos I sent that upset you? Or did I say something wrong? I didn't mean any harm. Aunt Kimberly said you've been busy. How about we talk in person tomorrow? I'll message Kimberly back now and won't bother you anymore."

"Clara." Winston tried to say more, but Clara hung up.

The mood shifted.

Winston thought for a moment and sent her a message.

Winston: [I found Nicole, and from now on, I want to be with her.]

Upon reading the message, Clara felt as though she'd been struck by a heavyweight.

It was unbelievable; Nicole had returned! Was Nicole staying with Winston? Was that why he's in such a rush to sort things out with her, she wondered.

Feeling down, Clara's heart ached. Remembering Winston's tone, she felt restless.

Just then, Kimberly messaged: [Clara, as long as you like it. I was worried the style might be too mature for you. But you look like a beautiful princess in it, really lovely.]

Tears streamed down Clara's face. After holding back for a while, she sent a message to Kimberly.

Clara: [Aunt Kimberly, thank you so much. You care for me like a mother. I don't know how I deserve it.]

After sending the message, she hid under the covers and let her tears flow.

Meanwhile, seeing that Clara hadn't replied, Winston looked up and said to Raymond, "I've made things clear with her. She's probably done with me now."

Then, he dropped down to one knee and addressed Nicole, who was seated on the bed. "My connection with her is purely platonic. Going forward, I'll maintain my distance and let our friendship fade."

He didn't need friends.

Having Nicole was enough.

Nicole's gaze softened. "It's okay to have a few female friends. I trust your feelings for me."

After all, he had gotten so injured saving her foster parents.

His feelings for her were undoubtedly genuine.

"It's not okay! A man with a partner should keep his distance from other women." Raymond's expression was stern. "You need to consider your partner's feelings."

"Raymond, don't worry, I will." Winston didn't get angry; he responded earnestly.

Nicole looked back at Winston. "I haven't told my parents I'm back. Tomorrow, I want to call them and maybe visit. I also want to introduce you and Raymond to them. What do you think?"

She was asking for Winston's opinion.

Winston's eyes lit up with joy. "Of course."

Last time, Diana had said she was looking forward to their wedding. Now that Nicole was formally bringing him home, it meant she had acknowledged him.

Good things were on the horizon for him and Nicole!

The overwhelming joy made him ecstatic.

"Raymond, I want to be honest with them about the Umbra League," Nicole turned to Raymond.

After all, her foster parents had been burdened because of her for a long time. They had the right to know.

Raymond nodded. "It's your decision."

"Then let's go tomorrow afternoon," Nicole said.

"OK." Winston nodded. "Abella will be at the lab tomorrow to research the toxin in your blood. I believe we'll have results soon."

Everything was moving in a positive direction.

However, unexpectedly, early the next morning, Clara appeared with a homemade breakfast. She stood at the entrance of the villa, preventing the servants from rousing Winston, a touch of melancholy in her demeanor.

The servants, feeling sorry for her, finally knocked on Winston's door after she had been standing there for half an hour.

"Mr. Winston, Ms. Wren has been waiting outside for half an hour. Should we invite her in?"

"Why is she here?" Winston's groggy voice came from inside.

'I didn't tell Clara where I am, nor did I tell anyone which villa I'm staying in. Did she search villa by villa?' he wondered.

Thinking this, Winston said, "Ask her to wait in the garden. I'll join her shortly."

After swiftly freshening up, he passed by Nicole's room, treading lightly.

However, the prolonged period of being on edge had heightened Nicole's sensitivity. She would easily awaken if Winston wasn't beside her.

Hearing Winston's quiet footsteps, she was puzzled. 'It's still dark outside; what is Winston doing so early?'

At this moment, she heard a servant reporting to Winston, "Ms. Nelson didn't wake up last night. She seems to have slept well."

"That's good." Then it came Winston's footsteps heading downstairs.

Nicole got out of bed and went to the window, just in time to see a graceful figure in the garden. Even after not seeing her for a long time, she recognized at a glance that it was Clara Wren.

Seeing Winston come down in his pajamas, Clara immediately said happily, "Winston! Why didn't you sleep more? I told the servants not to wake you. Why did they call you? What happened to your injuries?"

"I got hurt accidentally," Winston didn't explain further and instead asked, "How did you find this place?"

"I got up at four to prepare breakfast for you. Aunt Kimberly mentioned how busy you've been with work. I planned to leave the breakfast here at first, but recalling our conversation from last night, I felt it necessary to have a face-to-face talk."

Winston's gaze deepened. What was there to discuss, he questioned silently, was there anything left between them?

"Before we get started, may I ask if Nicole is inside?" Clara's eyes flickered towards the villa.

She thought, 'She must be inside; otherwise, in this cold weather, the servants wouldn't have let me wait in the garden. It's obvious they don't want me to run into Nicole.'

"Yes." Winston nodded, admitting without any concealment.

Clara smiled even brighter. "So, you were so eager to clear things up with me last night because of her?"

"Yes."

"OK, I understand." Clara's smile grew even more radiant. "Why did she suddenly come back?"

"I went to find her and brought her back."

To prevent Clara from thinking Nicole was manipulative, Winston explained, "She left me before because of some unspeakable difficulties. Now, that issue is about to be resolved."

Clara understood. "So, you two are back together."

And to think she thought she had a chance before.

She had even deliberately returned to the country to develop, becoming the heir to the family business, hoping to elevate her status.

"Clara, I've always seen you as a friend. I'm really sorry."

Though Winston understood his words were blunt, he felt it best to swiftly address the situation. Clarity, however painful, was preferable for all involved.
