Chapter 674 Saying the Wrong Thing
Phillipe was like, "What's Abella up to? Didn't she say her grandpa's surgery was done and she'd hit me up after lunch? What time is it now? Is she taking a nap or something?"
Thinking about how Abella had just gotten off a long flight and then jumped straight into saving lives in Verdania, she probably crashed for a bit.
Phillipe didn't wanna bug her, but he couldn't stop thinking about her.
Abella's eyes were laser-focused, and she knocked out a surgery that usually takes 10 hours in just six, with only 500 milliliters of blood loss, and the patient was liver-less for two hours.
All the docs were totally floored!
In this surgery, led by Abella, three docs managed to fix up the arteries, hepatic veins, portal veins, and inferior vena cava, with 98% of the liver still good to go.
Brad and another surgeon were totally stoked, and all the docs in the observation room were cheering like crazy!
It was totally worth it for them to watch; they were super impressed and learned a ton.
When Abella came out of the OR, Camille was the first to rush up and ask how it went. When she found out her dad could keep full liver function and the surgery was a big win, she cried happy tears and thanked Abella a million times.
Other docs from the observation room crowded around Abella, asking about her background, praising her skills, and wanting to know her future plans.
Caleb, seeing Abella swamped by people, was like, "Yo, give her some space, my niece needs to change. She's wiped after that long surgery."
Everyone turned and saw the imposing Caleb at the other end of the crowd. Nobody in the country didn't know who he was.
"Mr. Harris."
"Mr. Harris, she's your niece?"
"The Harris genes are off the charts; every one of them is a superstar."
Seeing Caleb help her out, Abella nodded to him and headed to the changing room to ditch her sterile gown and disinfect.
Camille looked at Caleb, totally shocked.
Caleb noticed her stare and looked up, also kinda surprised. "Camille?"
One of the board members, they often met but were usually on opposite sides. In yesterday's board vote, only she and a few others voted against.
Camille asked Caleb in disbelief if Abella was really his niece. She'd never heard him mention it before.
Caleb told her he had just recently found Abella and asked her to keep it on the down-low.
Camille nodded like crazy, tears welling up again. She told Caleb that if it weren't for Abella, her dad wouldn't have made it.
She didn't expect the Medical Authority to be Caleb's actual niece; what a twist.
Caleb comforted her a bit and then heard her say that in yesterday's vote, she was told by another board member to vote against and that she had some insider info to share, which she'd email him tonight.
Caleb didn't see this coming, all thanks to Abella.
Seeing Abella come out, Caleb told Camille that Abella hadn't eaten since noon and had done two surgeries back-to-back.
Camille felt super guilty hearing this and thanked Abella again, saying Caleb should wait for her tonight.
Abella was kinda puzzled. "Do they know each other?"
It wasn't until Caleb did the intros that she got the gist of their relationship.
Seeing it was already dark, probably around seven or eight, Caleb said warmly, "I'll take you out to eat and show you Verdania's night scene."
"Okay."
Abella was starving but even more wiped out. She took a quick nap in the car.
Seeing her so beat, Caleb remembered James saying Abella had been through a lot, and it made his heart ache a bit.
After a while, Abella heard Caleb gently calling her. When she looked up, their car had stopped in front of a gorgeous hilltop restaurant, with a killer view of half of Verdania's night lights outside.
The restaurant manager personally opened the door for Abella and greeted her in Verdania's language. Abella responded briefly.
Caleb looked at her with a bit of admiration. "Didn't know your Verdania was that good."
It was better than Lola's.
Lola once got a wild hair to learn Verdania's language, and he had found her a top-notch teacher, but her pronunciation was nowhere near Abella's.
Seemed like Abella had a lot more hidden talents waiting to be discovered.
Looking at the night view below the hill, Abella suddenly remembered she had promised to call Phillipe after lunch.
"Uncle Caleb, you go in first; I need to make a call."
"Okay." Caleb didn't pry, handed the car keys to the valet, and went in.
Abella pulled out her phone from her backpack and saw a bunch of missed calls from her parents, friends, subordinates, and Phillipe.
She called Phillipe first, and he picked up almost instantly, "Awake?"
"How'd you know I was sleeping?" Abella thought he even knew she had napped in the car, but then realized he meant the afternoon nap.
Knowing she hadn't eaten since noon and had done two surgeries back-to-back, Phillipe said with concern, "Eat first, rest up, and I'll call you later."
Filling her stomach was priority number one.
Abella heard the sound of the cabin system on his end and immediately guessed. "Are you on a plane? Coming to Verdania?"
Phillipe didn't expect her to figure it out so fast and explained, worried she might be mad. "I just have some business to handle in Verdania."
He wasn't slacking off.
"Oh." Abella smiled, knowing this guy would definitely follow. "Alright, when you get here, take me out for a walk if you have time."
Phillipe couldn't believe his ears, his eyes lighting up with laughter. "Sure, I'll take you out. Now go eat."
"Okay."
"Okay." Abella hung up and saw the restaurant manager still waiting nearby, smiling respectfully and politely. "Ms. Medici, this is the first time I've seen Mr. Harris bring a woman here for dinner. Mr. Harris is a rare gem, handsome, gentle, and devoted."
Abella cut him off before he could finish, "I'm his niece."
The restaurant manager's face froze for a few seconds before he quickly corrected himself. "He's also a great uncle! I dare say he's the best uncle in the world, hands down."
"Oh, isn't James good?"
The restaurant manager didn't expect to mess up again and quickly said, "No, Mr. James Harris is also very good."
"Alright, stop talking and lead the way."
"Yes."
