Chapter 1067 Waiting for an Opportunity
Abella's mind was racing with questions.
Isla added, "If it weren't for you wrecking everything the Wilson family had, my parents would still be the richest in Economic City. They had more money than they could count and could have given her some to live a good life. So, it's all your fault!"
Abella responded coldly, "As far as I know, after you went back to the Wilson family, you cut off contact with her. Your biological parents also distanced themselves from her. The fact that she still took you in shows she holds no grudges and cares for you as her daughter."
"Stop it, I don't want to hear it." Isla was agitated. "Aren't you the one with the Medical Authority title?"
She had someone bring over a small cup of something. "Drink this, and I'll let them go. We'll settle our score later!"
A henchman approached with the cup. Abella could smell the strong poison in it and turned her face away.
She had once developed a drug that could neutralize various poisons, but she hadn't taken it before leaving home.
Tonight, she was targeting someone named Scorpion at the auction and had plans to attend a dinner with Phillipe later, so she hadn't prepared in advance.
The dinner was at seven, and it wasn't even seven yet.
If Phillipe couldn't reach her, he would definitely investigate her whereabouts. However, it would take him at least an hour to get here.
But Isla's emotions clearly couldn't be delayed for that long.
Now, twenty or thirty henchmen had knives pointed at Josie and Joanna's faces, necks, and bodies. Lauren was still hanging above, with the rope extending along a line, likely controlled by a switch upstairs.
"Don't even think about playing tricks!" Isla seemed to read her mind. "The person hanging up there is barely alive. The switch is on the third floor. Even if you could fly up there, it would take time. But before you make a move, I'll kill your two good friends first!"
Isla suddenly stabbed Joanna's left leg. Joanna trembled in pain, trying to suppress her cries, but some sounds still escaped, making her nearly suffocate from the pain.
"Stop." Abella knew Isla was beyond reason now. There was no other way but to comply.
"Don't think I'm joking. Drink it within three seconds, or I'll stab deeper, and she can kiss that leg goodbye!" Isla's tone left no room for negotiation.
Meanwhile, the henchmen's knives were already drawing blood from Josie's neck.
"I'll drink it." Abella's words brought tears to Josie and Joanna's eyes. They pleaded with Abella not to do it with their eyes.
But the henchmen forced the poison down Abella's throat.
"Now, can you let them go?"
"Hahaha," Isla laughed maniacally. "I didn't expect you to be so loyal!"
She glared angrily. "If you're so loyal, why did you kill my parents? Why didn't you consider our eighteen years of friendship?"
She didn't pull the knife from Joanna's leg but grabbed another knife from a henchman and approached Abella menacingly.
"Today, I'll avenge my parents with my own hands."
Just as Isla reached Abella, Abella suddenly coughed up blood.
Josie and Joanna were heartbroken. This was their invincible friend Abella, now being tortured by this madwoman Isla.
The poison must be incredibly strong to make her cough up blood so quickly.
Seeing the once proud and cold Abella coughing up blood, Isla was both surprised and delighted.
"The person didn't lie to me. This poison is indeed strong," Isla said, looking at Abella with satisfaction. "Do you feel like your insides are being torn apart? Don't worry, I won't let you die easily. This pain will torment you for three hours before you bleed to death. During that time, I can enjoy watching you suffer."
Abella could feel the poison invading her organs.
"Do you know why it's three hours?" Isla taunted. "I want you to suffer, but what if Phillipe comes to save you? Three hours is enough!"
It would ensure Abella suffered before dying and prevent Phillipe from having time to save her.
Although Abella had often taken antidotes before missions, that was in the past.
Her body wasn't truly immune to all poisons.
At this moment, she felt the intense pain tearing through her organs, but aside from a pale face, her expression remained indifferent.
"Now that I'm like this, can you let my friends go?" Abella asked, coughing up more blood.
Isla was very pleased. "I have no interest in your two friends, but the person upstairs stays. Who knows if you'll try something?"
"Fine." Abella knew saving one was better than none. "I want to say goodbye to my friends."
Abella's voice was noticeably weaker.
"Still trying to play tricks?" Isla was instantly on guard.
Abella's pale lips curled. "How scared of me are you, to still be so cautious?"
"Who said I'm scared of you?" Isla wasn't scared at all and signaled her henchmen.
They immediately untied Josie and Joanna, removed the gags from their mouths, and pushed them towards Abella.
Joanna's leg still had a knife in it, and the push made her stumble forward.
Josie quickly caught her.
Both looked disheveled and tearfully at Abella.
"It's okay, you two go first. Don't alert anyone." Abella knew they would alert someone once they were out, so she said this for Isla's benefit.
"Abella, are you in pain?" Josie wiped the blood from Abella's mouth. "It's our fault for dragging you into this."
"It's not your fault. Don't worry about me, just go." Abella gave them a look that seemed ordinary to outsiders but was a signal to her friends that she had a plan.
Josie, crying, nodded and didn't want to waste Abella's time. She knew Abella must have a plan, so she helped Joanna and slowly left.
"Abella, where should I start?" Isla taunted, tapping Abella's face and neck with the knife. "Not the neck, that would kill you too quickly. Maybe your face, so when Phillipe finds you, he won't even want to bury you."
"If you're going to do it, stop talking. Haven't you heard? Bad guys talk too much."
With her friends gone, Abella had no more concerns. Lauren was still hanging above, and these people couldn't harm her immediately.
She was waiting for Isla to make her move.
