Chapter 265 What Are They up to
However, the manager, accompanied by several waiters, blocked their path, clearly not allowing the Wilson couple to approach any further. Truly, they were worthy of being the country's richest family, their entire demeanor far surpassing that of an ordinary wealthy household.
Take the Johnson family, for example. The Johnson family might be far superior to the Wilson family, but even when the Johnson family members were together, their collective aura couldn't compare to Mrs. Medici alone. The elegance and nobility that took years to cultivate, along with that air of dignity between their eyebrows and eyes, was not something just anyone could match.
"Why haven't they gone bankrupt yet? And they still have the mindset to treat guests to a meal?" Mrs. Medici said as she walked out of the restaurant, her exquisite face revealing a hint of annoyance.
Mr. Medici doted on her, saying, "Soon, it's just an empty shell left. I reckon tonight's dinner is merely a facade." The Wilson family no longer had business partners or financial resources, and their internal affairs were already in chaos.
As they observed Mr. Wilson tonight, it was evident that he had aged considerably. The spark of confidence in his eyes had disappeared, replaced by weariness and defeat.
"Sister-in-law, when did this small family ever upset you? I'll have someone take care of it for you." Margaret, standing by, wore a genteel smile as she gently continued, "We don't need to be at odds with people like them."
In the eyes of true aristocrats, these characters were not worth paying attention to.
George sneered, "Wasn't Abella the only one who got a perfect score on this year's SAT? But now, that family threw a banquet, with a banner proclaiming their daughter's high score on the SAT and her promising future. It's as if they think they're so impressive, but they're just a small family showing off their mediocre achievements. Little do they know, that truly strong individuals keep their edges concealed."
"Forget about them, and be safe on your way home." Mrs. Medici said with a smile, shaking her head.
Upon hearing this, Margaret looked at Lola and indulgently asked, "Lola, would you like to go to the mall with me and pick out a new dress?"
Lola stomped her foot in desperation, "I really didn't hit Elsa! It wasn't about the dress, I didn't lay a hand on her, I swear!"
Margaret couldn't help but laugh, her expression kind, as she looked at Lola. "Alright, I didn't mean to blame you. Since you don't want the dress, I'll get you another gift later. let's schedule a time to meet."
"Listen to me, Aunt..." Lola didn't have the chance to explain before George interrupted with a laugh, "Our whole family loves Abella. Let's get together again and let us see more of her."
Seeing their driver had arrived, George opened the car door for his wife and child, exchanged a few polite words, and they left.
Lola felt frustrated when they left without listening to her explanation. "Mom, Dad, I really didn't hit her!"
"Alright, we'll talk about this when we get home," Mr. Medici reassured her.
"If it weren't for Abella considering Grandpa Wilson's kindness in raising her, I would have cursed them!" Mrs. Medici's delicate face showed slight displeasure as she referred to the Wilson family. "Don't tell Abella about what just happened. Let's not upset her."
"Alright, we'll do as you say." Mr. Medici said with a smile.
Mrs. Medici was about to get in the car when she suddenly turned back and said, "Let's give them some trouble. In any case, we shouldn't let them off easily! They've been bullying our precious Abella for so many years!"
"Of course we'll do that." Mr. Medici readily agreed.
Early the next morning, the Wilson couple arrived at room 301 of the NYU Medical Center with bags full of gifts. As soon as they pushed the door open, they saw Barbara talking to a stranger.
The stranger was sitting by the bedside, dressed like a secretary. Her demeanor showed a hint of seriousness and professionalism as she nodded, seemingly agreeing with Barbara.
"Mom, you're awake? And who is this...?" Mrs. Wilson couldn't help but feel curious and suspicious of this stranger as soon as she entered.
It was only 7:30 in the morning, so why was this woman here so early? What were her and Grandma plotting?
As soon as the stranger saw them, she politely stood up and said to Barbara, "Then there's nothing else. I'm leaving now."
"Mm." Barbara responded lightly. Her face immediately darkened when she saw her son and daughter-in-law carrying a pile of gifts to visit her. "Who let you in here? Get out!"
"Mom, you haven't said who this person is yet?" Mrs. Wilson could only think about the identity of this woman in her mind. Who was she to Grandma? What did Grandma ask her to do? Was it related to the will?
With these thoughts in mind, she immediately stopped the unfamiliar woman and smiled, asking, "Are you a relative of our family or someone else? Sorry, I don't think I've seen you before."
The unfamiliar woman didn't answer her question but politely said, "Sorry, please let me through."
Mrs. Wilson had no intention of letting her go. It seemed like this woman didn't take her seriously at all, which made her somewhat angry.
Seeing that Mrs. Wilson refused to move, the woman squeezed past her and left through the doorway and out of the hospital room.
Mrs. Wilson became even more furious. What an attitude!
"Mom, you didn't buy insurance, did you?" Mr. Wilson couldn't help but ask when he saw the woman just now dressed in a black suit, resembling an insurance agent.
"You all can't wait for me to die, can you? Even if I died and donated all my property, not a single cent would be left for you!" Barbara said, coughing a few times out of anger. She sneered with sarcastic words, "So, this time, are you here to take away my phone, bracelet, or jewelry made flowers?"
Last time, Mrs. Wilson took away everything Abella had given her while she was unconscious, which worsened her condition when she woke up.
Luckily, Abella eventually managed to reclaim the items and gave her expensive medicine. Otherwise, she would have already gone to meet God now.
"We wouldn't dare to care about your things, Mom!" Mrs. Wilson replied hypocritically. "Last time, we saw you unconscious and were afraid that your valuable belongings would be stolen, so we kindly decided to keep them for you. But you, not only misunderstood our good intentions but also let Abella come here causing a scene. I tripped and even sprained my back because of that, and I couldn't get out of bed for several days because of the pain I was in."
"Serves you right." Barbara had no hint of kindness on her face and continued to mock, "The biggest thieves in this house is you lot. Even real thieves would pale in comparison when faced with you."
Although Mrs. Wilson felt uncomfortable, she still laid out the breakfast dishes one by one. "Mom, you're just teasing us again! We asked the nurse last night, and she said you can eat this breakfast. Please eat something?"
Since she had witnessed their deceptive nature last time, Barbara grew even more suspicious of them. She coldly glanced at the breakfast in front of her and said, "Take it away."
Who knows if there's poison inside!
