Chapter 672 Afraid She Might Surpass Abella
Lola was feeling all kinds of awkward. This dude with a million skills wouldn't teach her squat, just shipped her off to other teachers.
She thought, 'Isn't it just 'cause he's scared I'll outshine Abella if I get good? They're just playing favorites. Scared their precious daughter will get shown up.'
"Lola, you've been living the cushy life since forever. Abella got her skills the hard way. You should start with some basic theory from top-notch teachers. Oh, by the way, what are you into? What do you wanna learn?"
Lola flashed a sweet smile. "I'll let you know when I figure it out, Dad. Did Abella go to Verdania to see Grandpa? Is he doing any better?"
"Let me tell you, Abella's a rockstar. She got there and bam, figured out what was wrong." Beckett, all hyped up, got a nudge from Kimberly, reminding him to zip it.
Sure enough, Lola's eyes dimmed for a sec before she slapped on a smile. "Abella's really something. So many doctors couldn't find the problem, but she nailed it right away."
Kimberly chimed in, "She's got all that experience from saving so many people. Alright, Lola, your dad and I are going for a walk. Take your time with the fruit."
Lola felt a bit miffed seeing her parents barely touch the fruit she had worked so hard on.
"Dad, Mom, I haven't seen Grandpa in ages. When can we all go together?" Lola asked, all hopeful.
Kimberly hesitated. "Maybe next time? When your Grandma's better too, we can all get together."
Lola didn't expect Kimberly to change her tune. 'She doesn't wanna take me abroad anymore, just letting Abella cozy up to Grandpa without me in the way. Mom's really playing dirty!'
In the ward, Abella had just arrived when she got a call from Vanessa.
"Abella, I heard you saved your Grandpa." Vanessa was so excited she was babbling. "You're such a good kid, skilled in medicine and so humble. If you hadn't come back to this family, your Grandpa and I might've been goners by now."
"Grandma, it's not that serious." Abella smiled gently. "How have you been feeling these past couple of days? Getting used to the new meds?"
"Way better than before. The old meds were really..." Vanessa didn't want to say it outright, just hinted, "A bit bitter."
Abella laughed. "Knowing you hate bitterness, I added a few things to balance it out."
"It's much better. The old meds were so bitter that I... Now I can drink it all in one go." Vanessa laughed, her eyes full of love for Abella.
Abella's smile deepened. "In a few days, I'll give you a new prescription. It'll be even better."
"Really?" Vanessa was happy but then remembered something. "Oh right, I heard from Caleb that your Grandpa's heart rupture was caused by external force. I suddenly remembered something from way back."
Abella listened closely.
Vanessa said, "Way back, your Grandpa and I were traveling around. We got mixed up in some drama. One morning, at a stall near the desert, the owner, a sweet lady, was getting hassled by her gambling husband. He wanted money to gamble, totally ignoring their sick kid who needed cash for treatment. She refused, so he started beating her in front of everyone and even threatened to kill her."
Abella was shocked to hear this.
Vanessa continued, "Everyone was too scared to step in. No tourist wanted to risk it. But your Grandpa, seeing the guy pull out a knife, jumped in to stop him, worried he'd hurt innocent people. But your Grandpa was old, so he took a few hits. Later, our bodyguards came and took the guy down, handed him over to the cops. I felt bad for the lady and gave her a few thousand bucks for her kid's treatment."
Abella got it. "So you think Grandpa might've hurt his heart back then?"
Vanessa replied, "The guy was big and strong, but I can't remember if he hit Grandpa's heart specifically."
"Did Grandpa mention any discomfort after that?"
"He did, but the doctors checked him out and found nothing. We thought it was just old age and high blood pressure."
Who would've thought it was a heart rupture!
If Abella hadn't caught it in time and done the surgery, things could've been really bad.
"Abella, I wanna go to Verdania in a few days to see you and Grandpa. Can you talk to James and get him to let me go? You're a doctor and his niece, he'll listen to you. I'm old, no one listens to me anymore."
Abella couldn't help but laugh. "You still need to take care of your health and rest more at home."
"I just wanna get some fresh air. I'm tired of being cooped up at home every day," Vanessa pleaded, "Abella, please let me go out and see you?"
Abella laughed. "I'll check your health report in a few days. If everything's good, I'll talk to Uncle James."
"Great! With your word, I doubt James will stop me," Vanessa said a bunch of happy things until Abella heard a knock on the ward door. She hung up and said, "Come in."
To her surprise, it wasn't Caleb who walked in, but a woman from Verdania, Camille Moreau.
She stood in front of Abella, crying and pleading in Verdania's language for Abella to save her father.
Behind her was Brad. It was clear that Brad had told her how to save her father and suggested she seek help from Abella, who was known as a Medical Authority.
Seeing Abella's eyes, Brad seemed to guess what was up. Just as he was about to explain what the woman was saying, Abella asked Camille in perfect Verdania what was wrong with her father.
Not only was Camille stunned, but Brad was also shocked. Abella spoke Verdania so fluently and with such a perfect accent. How was she so amazing?
Camille was relieved to find that Abella understood Verdania. She explained in Verdania that her father had a tumor inside his body larger than Abella's fist, with a diameter over 3 inches.
