Chapter 537 Lola Helped Abella Clarify
Lola thought to herself, ’Please stop praising her! Cordelia's here, and if she hears all this, she'll get a big head!‘
Just then, Abella pulled out her phone to take care of some personal stuff.
Out of nowhere, Sophia, feeling all high and mighty, shushed everyone and shot a smug look at Abella.
"Abella, you must have a keen eye. Why don't you tell us what's so special about this piece?"
If Abella, with her fancy upbringing and early exposure to art, couldn't identify the artist or style, it would just show how limited her knowledge was. And if she came from a less privileged background, no matter how good her grades were, she'd still be seen as inferior to these rich girls.
So, no matter how Abella answered, she'd either be mocked for her ignorance or her background.
Abella looked up and saw a bunch of people ready to laugh at her. Then she glanced at Sophia's phone, which showed a landscape painting, supposedly bought for thirty million dollars.
Her gaze turned icy. "Honestly, it looks like something an elementary school kid would do."
Everyone, including Sophia, was stunned for a moment.
"Looks like Abella can only study and can't appreciate art," Sophia snapped back, regaining her composure with a smug smile. "This is a new piece by the contemporary master Cordelia."
"Yeah! The Chang family bought it for thirty million at an auction a few days ago."
"You don't get famous art, fine. But calling a master's work elementary school level is an insult to Cordelia and all her fans!"
"Apologize to Cordelia!"
Abella smirked, looking at the girls like they were idiots.
"Last year, the Medici family bought Cordelia's work for a hundred million, and this year the Bourbon family did the same. Now you're saying your family got an authentic Cordelia for thirty million?"
"Why can't us? The Medici and Bourbon families are rich and willing to spend more. My family is close to Cordelia, so why wouldn't she give us a discount?" Sophia said, a bit nervously.
As far as Sophia knew, Abella didn't know the relationship between the Chang family and Cordelia, nor did she have proof Sophia was lying. So, what could Abella do?
Abella found it even funnier. "You say you know Cordelia? Is she a young woman or old lady?"
"An old lady!" Sophia said confidently, "She looks very elegant and scholarly, with a strong artistic vibe."
Abella couldn't help but laugh. "Cordelia is a very young woman, and she never gives discounts to anyone."
"How do you know? You talk like you know Cordelia?" Sophia insisted, "Cordelia has been associated with our family for years. I've seen her many times. But you, your family probably doesn't own any of Cordelia's works, so you don't know who made that landscape painting."
"Cordelia has never painted a landscape," Abella said casually. "Yours is a fake."
"Fake?"
Everyone was stunned.
The students from Medical University couldn't believe how certain Abella was about the painting being a fake.
Sophia, fuming, demanded evidence from Abella, but then noticed Lola giving her desperate looks.
"Lola, you tell us," Sophia said, not catching on to Lola's signals. "You're well-informed. Is Cordelia old or young? And is this landscape painting by Cordelia?"
Lola, annoyed at being put on the spot, reluctantly stood up and glanced at Abella.
Luckily, Abella didn't seem to care, looking indifferent.
"Cordelia is a young woman," Lola said, feeling the weight of her words.
If she lied, Abella would definitely expose her in front of everyone, right?
A long time ago, when Andrew and Victoria visited the Medici family, they had personally said that Abella was the painting master Cordelia and the calligrapher Magnolia. If she lied now, she would be the one embarrassed later.
Rather than embarrassing herself, it was better to let her friend Sophia take the fall.
"Cordelia is a young woman? Just like Abella said?"
"So, Sophia was lying?"
"Is Sophia pretending to be rich?"
Sophia and Lola were supposed to be good friends, so why would Lola personally deny what she said?
Everyone started whispering.
Sophia couldn't believe Lola would embarrass her in front of so many people.
That was not what a friend should do!
"Lola, didn't your family buy a Cordelia painting for one hundred million dollars a year ago?" Someone remembered and quickly asked Lola for confirmation.
Lola was happy to change the subject. "Yes."
"Lola, your family is so rich, buying a painting for one hundred million dollars just like that... The Bourbon family can afford one hundred million, and so can your family. No wonder you can become in-laws."
"Yeah, you are right."
Everyone started flattering again.
Lola felt a bit guilty, fearing that Abella would expose her fake heiress identity in public, and even more afraid that Abella would say she wasn't Phillipe's fiancée, so she quickly said, "Alright, the competition is about to start. Let's focus on that."
"Lola, since your family has bought Cordelia's work, tell us, does Cordelia really not give discounts to anyone?" Someone asked again.
Lola glanced at Abella helplessly and admitted, "If she says no discounts, then no discounts."
No one had expected that Abella's knowledge was broader than Sophia's, even reaching Lola's level. Instead, Sophia seemed a bit pitiful and pathetic.
Sophia didn't understand why Lola wouldn't help her, and Lola could only quietly give an excuse to brush it off.
Meanwhile, the students from Medical University looked at Abella with admiration.
Abella was amazing.
She effortlessly embarrassed the Innovation University's students!
"Abella, you're awesome!"
No wonder Rodolfo personally named her to lead the team; she had the skills and strength.
