Chapter 917 On the Plane
Bonnie knew Beckett and Kimberly had always tried to be fair, but no matter what they did, Lola was never satisfied and always felt they were biased.
Now, they didn't have to worry about that anymore.
"I'll handle it," Kimberly said, feeling a bit embarrassed that Bonnie had been feeding her the medicine. She took the bowl and drank it all in one go before asking, "Has the news been released?"
Bonnie nodded. "Yeah, it's out. As long as Jacob doesn't show up, Lola's gonna go hungry and her injuries will get worse. If he has any conscience, he'll show up in the next couple of days."
"If he cared about Lola, why didn't he take her with him today? If he doesn't care, then releasing the news might be useless. What if he doesn't take the bait?" Kimberly was a bit worried.
They had never realized Jacob was so cunning. If Abella hadn't discovered his true nature, they would still think of him as the kind and gentle Jacob.
"If he didn't care about Lola, he wouldn't have stayed hidden in our family for over a decade, watching her grow up. He'll show up eventually. When he does, we'll make sure he pays for it," Bonnie thought, determined to get justice for Abella.
Just then, a servant knocked on the bedroom door, nervously asking, "Mrs. Medici, Lola wants to see you. She's been knocking on the door for half an hour. We didn't know what else to do, so we came to ask you."
Kimberly replied coldly, "No."
"Understood," The servant said quickly. "I'll let her know."
"And for the next couple of days, no one is to pay any attention to her. Don't bring her food or medicine. She won't die from being ignored for a few days."
The servant was taken aback by Kimberly's sternness but quickly bowed and left.
"Her knees were injured from kneeling on broken glass. Even though it's winter and her clothes are thick, she still got hurt. Now it's up to Jacob. If he takes too long, the injuries will get worse, and he can't blame us," Bonnie said nonchalantly. She stood up with the bowl and added, "You should rest. Don't think about it anymore. It's all in the past. We need to look forward. Mom and Dad will be here tomorrow. If they see you looking so down, they'll be heartbroken."
Kimberly, thinking about their parents, couldn't help but worry. "If they find out about everything Lola has done, they'll be devastated."
"There's nothing we can do about that," Bonnie said calmly. "It's better they know sooner rather than later. We'll have the family doctor come over tomorrow and then tell them the truth. Now, get some rest. We have a lot to deal with."
Kimberly nodded, looking out at the dark sky, her mood as heavy as the night.
Abella's plane hit some turbulence, causing it to shake. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself lying in the plane's bedroom. Phillipe was asleep in a chair next to the bed.
As soon as she sat up, Phillipe woke up and asked, "You're awake? Did you have a nightmare?"
"No, I'm just thirsty."
Phillipe immediately poured her a glass of water and handed it to her. "Your mom called before we boarded. She wanted to talk to you, but I told her you were asleep and that we'd be home tomorrow. She said she'll wait to talk to you then."
Abella took the glass, drinking a few sips.
"Steven also called to check on you. I told him you were fine and that this was nothing compared to what you've been through before," Phillipe said, taking the empty glass and setting it aside. He sat next to her and gently patted her head. "He also said Jacob ran off and left Lola behind."
"Jacob probably thinks that after all these years, the family won't kill Lola, no matter how angry they are. Leaving her behind to cry might even help his cause. At most, they'll kick her out, but they won't kill her," Abella analyzed calmly. "But with Maria dead, Jacob will definitely make a move. We just don't know who his next target will be. The Medici family is large, and it's hard to protect everyone around the clock."
With so many servants, some going home for Easter, some traveling, and others staying at the Long Island Manor.
And important employees from the company, coming from different cities, who knew where they would be for the holidays.
Not to mention her own family and friends, even her bodyguards.
Any of them could be Jacob's next target.
"Easter is coming, and there will be even more visitors. Especially with your parents planning to announce your identity, there will be a lot of people coming to see you. They might even take you to some important events to introduce you to everyone. This gives Jacob plenty of opportunities. I'll increase security at Long Island Manor and assign more people to protect you. But the most important thing is to catch Jacob in the next couple of days." Just as Phillipe finished speaking, his phone vibrated. His private jet had internet and phone service.
He answered the call and, after a moment, said to Abella, "The people who attacked at the hotel were from another organization that has ties to the Umbra League. If their goal was to kill you, Jacob may be part of that organization. Since Maria failed, Jacob might have sent them to finish the job."
"It's possible," Abella agreed.
If Jacob and Maria were part of different organizations, working for different people, with more resources to protect themselves.
It was very likely they would join different groups.
"I've already ordered an investigation into past incidents to see if they're connected to this organization. If they are, we'll have a clearer picture of Jacob's identity." Phillipe looked at the dark sky outside and said gently, "You've only slept for three hours. Get some more rest. I'll handle everything."
"I want to call Sam," Abella said, worried about the situation at Long Island Manor.
Phillipe handed her the phone. Abella dialed the number, and Sam answered almost immediately, "Mr. Bourbon? Are you calling about Ms. Medici? I don't know where she is..."
