Chapter 1061 I Don't Want to Die
"Abella..." Henry hadn't expected her to refuse in the end.
"No matter who he sends, they can't touch me," Abella said confidently.
"But have you thought about the people around you?" Henry couldn't help but ask. "The people around you aren't as strong as you."
"Try messing with Abella's people and see what happens," Dennis warned angrily.
"That mysterious guy will send others to deal with her. If they can't get to her, they'll go after the people around her." Henry added.
"Since you put it that way, whether I save Lola or not, he'll still send people after me. So why should I bother saving her?" Abella's words left Henry speechless.
"Let him come at me," Abella said calmly. "I want to see what tricks he has left."
Henry watched as she got into her car and left. The Medici family vehicles drove away one by one, disappearing from his sight.
In the end, he could only look at Herbert.
"I'm just a hospital director. Saving lives is a doctor's job." Herbert managed the hospital and knew some medicine, but he wasn't a top-notch doctor.
Henry watched Herbert's departing figure with disappointment.
Just then, his phone rang.
"Henry, you really thought you could team up with the Medici family against me? Don't even think about getting the antidote from me!" The mysterious man hung up angrily.
Before Henry could respond, his phone rang again. It was Briar. "Mr. Hall, Ms. Flores is vomiting blood again. The doctors you brought in are all at a loss. What should we do?"
Henry rushed to the ward immediately.
For the next two days and nights, Lola's condition worsened. She vomited blood more frequently, and the pain in her organs was unbearable.
"Henry, it hurts so much," Lola lay weakly in his arms, tears streaming down her face. "When are the new doctors coming? Everything hurts—my ears, my eyes, my whole body. I feel like I'm dying. Why haven't any new doctors come in the past two days?"
Henry's eyes reddened. He couldn't tell Lola that he had run out of options.
He had brought in every doctor he could, but no one knew what was wrong with her.
He even begged Rodolfo, the highly skilled president of the Medical University, but as soon as Rodolfo heard it was Lola, he refused without a second thought and had his gates closed.
Henry knelt outside Rodolfo's villa for ten hours in the freezing cold, but Rodolfo didn't open the door. In the end, Rodolfo left on a private jet, clearly unwilling to save Lola.
Henry was at his wits' end, watching helplessly as Lola suffered. For two days and nights, he was exhausted and tormented.
"Henry, say something," Lola guessed what was happening from his guilty expression. "Are there no more doctors? Is it true that no one can help me? Am I really going to die?"
Tears welled up in Henry's eyes. "I'll find another way."
"None of the doctors knew what was wrong with me, did they?" Lola's tears flowed in despair. "Is Abella the only one who can save me?"
That wretched Abella wanted to force her to kneel and beg for the antidote.
Realizing this possibility, Lola coughed up blood again and fainted in a mix of sorrow and anger.
The medical equipment beeped loudly. Henry knew something was wrong and pressed the call button.
Doctors and nurses rushed in and escorted him out.
Henry waited outside the room and finally dialed the mysterious man's number again.
The mysterious man hadn't answered his calls for two days and nights. This time was no different.
Henry called repeatedly, but it was clear the man had given up on him.
Desperate and helpless, Henry buried his face in his hands and cried.
The doctors and nurses worked inside for a long time before opening the door and announcing, "Mr. Hall, you have three hours left to say goodbye to Ms. Flores."
"What did you say?" Henry stood up, tears streaming down his face.
The doctors and nurses, feeling guilty, said, "We've done everything we can. Ms. Flores's condition has deteriorated severely."
"Please, save her."
"Her condition is strange and complex. In all our years of practice, we've never seen anything like it. Maybe Ms. Medici can help," One doctor said, but he knew Abella wouldn't save Lola.
Henry's tears fell. He knew Abella was determined not to help.
"If Randy were still here, he might have a solution, but he left NYU Medical Center a long time ago. Except for Abella's return party, we haven't seen him."
Finding him would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Lola's condition was clearly too urgent to wait.
"We're very sorry. We've done our best." The doctors and nurses bowed deeply, expressing their deepest apologies before leaving.
Henry pushed open the door to see Lola lying on the bed, pale and weak, looking like she could die at any moment.
The medical equipment showed that her breathing was extremely weak.
"This is her karma," Melanie's cold voice came from the doorway.
She had been visiting Whitney in the next ward and overheard the doctors, so she came over to mock.
"If she had gotten along with Abella, she wouldn't have been kicked out of the Medici family. She'd still be living a life of luxury with a bright future. But she chose to make trouble and oppose Abella. The Medici family gave her chance after chance, but she never repented. She brought this on herself."
"Melanie, don't kick her when she's down," Henry said hoarsely, not turning around. "Please leave. I just want to be with her now."
Melanie rolled her eyes and went to the next ward.
Henry sat by the bed, holding Lola's hand, unable to hold back his tears.
After a while, Lola's fingers twitched, and she slowly opened her eyes.
She opened her mouth as if she had something to say.
