Chapter 956 Ethan is Back
"Good thing Ms. Medici is such a skilled doctor. He's still out cold, though. Who knows if he'll spill the beans about the hospital fire when he wakes up."
The two women tossed their trash and chatted as they walked toward the front gate.
"I can't believe someone tried to hurt Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici back then. Who could it be? If Jacob wakes up and keeps quiet, I'm sure Mr. Medici will find a way to make him talk."
"Of course. The Medici family is powerful. If it weren't for the mastermind behind this, Ms. Medici wouldn't have been switched at birth, and the Medici family wouldn't have raised someone else's kid for eighteen years. Lola ended up being ungrateful and tried to kill Ms. Medici. The Medici family will definitely get to the bottom of this."
"Yeah, I saw Mr. Steven Medici bring in his people, and Mr. Beckett Medici and Mrs. Medici called in their trusted aides to protect someone. They're waiting for Jacob to reveal the truth about the fire."
"Do you think if Jacob finds out Ms. Medici saved him, he'll be grateful and tell the truth?"
"I think it's possible. After all, he's been with the family for over a decade. He must have some feelings for them. Plus, Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici raised Lola."
They were still whispering as they walked into the manor.
After lunch, Abella went back to her room.
Without Abella around, Dennis felt time drag on and boredom set in.
Just then, he noticed a sleek black sedan on the security monitor pulling up to the gate. The car's make and model were unmistakable—Ethan was back.
Ethan stepped out of the car and immediately noticed the heightened security around the house, with guards stationed everywhere, far more than usual.
Not only were the regular bodyguards present, but even Steven's elite security teams were there.
A guard at the gate greeted him respectfully. "Mr. Medici."
"Is something wrong at home?" Ethan asked directly, knowing the guard worked for Steven.
"Mr. Steven Medici is protecting someone. Mr. Ethan Medici, you can go inside and ask." The guard couldn't reveal more, fearing eavesdroppers.
Ethan felt a pang of worry. "Is Abella in trouble?"
Only Abella would warrant such a response.
"It's not Ms. Medici."
Ethan's anxiety eased. He patted the guard's shoulder. "Thanks for your hard work."
As long as it wasn't Abella, it would be okay.
If it were Abella, he'd hate himself for being late!
"Serving the Medici family and protecting them is our honor. With your words, Mr. Medici, it's no trouble at all."
Ethan nodded and saw Dennis emerging from the main house, heading inside.
As they approached each other, Ethan noticed Dennis wearing the loungewear Abella had given him. Dennis had bragged about it yesterday, sending photos of the outfit, including slippers and socks.
Despite the freezing temperatures outside, Dennis wore the loungewear without an extra coat, flaunting it in front of Ethan.
"Looking good?" Dennis raised an eyebrow, showing off his outfit.
"Good thing Abella is generous. She gave you several sets; otherwise, you'd weld that outfit to your body."
Ethan's comment made Dennis laugh with satisfaction and pride. "You're just jealous because you didn't get any."
Dennis was about to make Ethan list his hundred best qualities, hoping to get a good word in with Abella, but Ethan spoke first. "Jealous of what? You were the last to get a gift from Abella. Plus, we got other presents, and you only got clothes."
"You all got gifts?" Dennis suddenly felt like a fool for his earlier behavior. He asked incredulously, "What else did you get? Show me!"
Abella gave them other gifts? He was so envious and wanted them too!
"Want to know?" Ethan teased. "Not telling."
As Ethan walked toward the main house, Dennis hurried after him. "Ethan, what did Abella give you? We're family; you have to tell me!"
Inside the main house, several servants greeted Ethan with smiles. "Mr. Medici."
"Where's Abella?" Ethan scanned the living room but didn't see her.
"Ms. Medici went upstairs to rest after lunch."
Ethan had hoped to chat with Abella and give her something. Hearing this, he sat on the couch and started questioning Dennis. "What did you do to Abella earlier? Spill it. You look pretty rough; Steven must've given you a hard time."
"Not at all! Steven treats me well, never a word of reproach!"
"Really, Steven?" Ethan suddenly looked behind Dennis.
Dennis flinched, thinking Steven was behind him.
"No, I mean..." He quickly turned around, but no one was there. Ethan had tricked him!
"Come on, where are you hurt?" Compared to Steven's stern demeanor, Ethan was much gentler.
Dennis had just sat down when Ethan suddenly threw a punch. Dennis caught his fist. "Ethan, my injury has just healed. If it opens up again, how will you explain to Abella?"
He used Abella as a shield again.
"Steven hurt you that badly? Did you need Abella to save you? How bad was it... heart rupture?"
"Stop it! My injury has nothing to do with Steven. Ethan, just tell me what Abella gave you."
"First, tell me what you did to Abella. And what's going on at home? Why the heavy security?"
They chatted for a while until Abella came downstairs, wearing headphones and holding a tablet.
Seeing her, they were overjoyed. "Abella?"
Wasn't she supposed to be resting? She seemed to be listening to music.
Though Abella wore headphones, she heard them and took them off. "Ethan, when did you get back?"
Dennis felt a pang of jealousy. Abella's first words were for Ethan.
"Just now. Were you listening to music?" Ethan thought about future gift options: a tablet and headphones!
Abella looked around and then spoke to them. "I was editing and extracting audio clips of Jacob from when he was here, including his coughing and speaking."
