Chapter 718 Falling into the Trap
As soon as Ulysses heard the news, he grabbed the edge of the bed like it was his lifeline. "David, man, you gotta hang in there. This family can't make it without you."
"David, it's all on me. Just open your eyes, and you can do whatever you want to me. Kill me, skin me, I don't care!"
Bonnie stepped up, giving them a cold stare. "If you're so eager to die, go bash your head against the wall. What's the point of all this drama?"
All of them went quiet.
"I'll remember what Uncle Derek said. If my dad wakes up and wants to kill you or skin you, don't you dare hide, Uncle Derek."
The elders' faces turned grim.
"Aunt Bonnie, you and Uncle Caleb should go home and rest. Grandpa's not waking up anytime soon, maybe tomorrow morning at the earliest." Abella's words made Ulysses and Derek exchange a glance before quickly looking away.
"No way, I'm not leaving. I'm staying at the hospital with your grandpa tonight." As soon as Bonnie finished, Caleb chimed in, "I'm staying too. Abella, I'll have someone take you home to rest."
"I'm not tired." Abella looked at them. "If something happens to Grandpa, I need to be here to help."
"Are there any extra rooms?" Caleb asked the doctor nearby.
"There are a few empty rooms at the end of the hall. If Mr. Caleb Harris doesn't mind, you can rest there with your family."
"Thanks." Caleb said, then turned to the others. "If you have nothing else, please leave. We can't entertain you here."
He put his hand on Bonnie's shoulder and whispered, "Let's go."
"Okay." Bonnie waved to Abella. "Come over here."
Eventually, David was moved to room 919, Caleb and Bonnie stayed in 918, and Abella stayed in 917.
Ulysses and Derek, along with the others, were still sitting on the bench in the hallway, not wanting to leave.
Ten minutes later, the lights on the entire floor suddenly went out.
Quick, light footsteps rushed towards room 919, the door was opened, and the person on the bed, David, was stabbed dozens of times.
Others released knockout gas into rooms 918 and 917, and after a while, they quickly took action.
Waiting in the hallway, Ulysses soon heard his subordinate report, "Mr. Ulysses Harris, it's done. Everyone's dead."
"What did you say?" Maybe not believing it went so smoothly, Ulysses lowered his voice and asked, "Are you sure?"
"I saw it with my own eyes, absolutely sure!" Seeing his subordinate bowing his head respectfully, Ulysses still couldn't believe it. He took a few steps and finally walked towards room 919.
He pushed open the door, the lights came on, and Ulysses saw the white bed drenched in blood with his own eyes.
Following behind him, Derek was also in disbelief, with a hint of joy in his eyes. "Dead? David is finally dead?"
Yancy and Jerold were also excited. "Really dead? That's great."
Now they didn't have to worry anymore.
Ulysses didn't expect David to die just like that. His emotions were all over the place, and it took him a while to take a step towards the bed.
The person on the bed had a face identical to David's, but the heart and stomach had been stabbed dozens of times, with blood still oozing from the wounds, the large bloody holes looked horrifying.
Ulysses felt a wave of relief wash over him. "David, you can only blame yourself. If you had just stayed asleep, Derek and I could've taken care of you for the rest of your life. But no, you had to come to Derek's house tonight to handle this mess! We can't be blamed for offing you."
"David, you've had it all these years—wealth, glory, the whole shebang. Now it's our turn," Derek chimed in. "Don't worry, Vanessa's with James, and he'll take good care of her. As for the Harris Group, we'll take over. You can rest easy; we'll give you a grand send-off."
Yancy couldn't help but ask, "Derek, David's dead, Caleb and Bonnie are dead too. How do we transfer their shares and assets to our names?"
"Yeah, they didn't sign anything. What if..." Jerold started, but Derek cut him off with a laugh. "Are you two scared silly? Just use their hands to press the transfer documents."
"You're right, but it's a pity Abella's dead too. I heard she was pretty good with medicine," Yancy said, sounding a bit regretful.
"If she can't be used by us, there's no point in keeping her," Derek said. "Let's get their handprints first!"
Ulysses wanted to settle things once and for all. As long as David, Caleb, and Bonnie's handprints were on the transfer documents, everything would be sorted.
He grabbed David's hand, about to press it, when he suddenly felt something was off. "Wait."
His voice made everyone look up in confusion. "Ulysses, what's wrong?"
"David's hand looks a bit off." Ulysses carefully examined the hand, not just the hand, but also David's facial features and limbs. Something was off. The facial features looked strange, and the limbs seemed a bit fatter and shorter than David's.
"You really had a good plan." David's voice startled everyone, making them take a few steps back, looking at the person on the bed. "A ghost."
The David on the bed didn't speak. Instead, a tall and imposing figure appeared at the door.
David's sudden appearance left everyone in disbelief, their eyes widening, looking back and forth between the door and the bed.
How could there be two Davids?
David wasn't dead. He slowly walked into the ward, followed by Caleb, Bonnie, and Abella.
Everyone's eyes widened. "David, what's going on?"
Why was there a David at the door and another on the bed?
Why wasn't anyone dead?
David walked up to them and gave each of them a hard slap, his body trembling with anger.
They were so frightened that they lowered their heads, not daring to look David in the eye.
"The person on the bed is one of your goons who surrounded the manor. We picked a few with similar builds, dressed them up, applied prosthetics and wigs." David's words made them realize that the person on the bed wasn't David!
It was one of their own, disguised!
So that was how it was!
David added, "They had already taken knockout drugs and were sleeping soundly, but your people stabbed them dozens of times, and they couldn't be saved."
Hearing this, they finally understood that they had fallen into David's trap. This was all David's scheme!
