Chapter 480 Unveiling the Truth
But the girl's eyes were sincere. She nodded earnestly, emphasizing, "We won't harm Nicole."
Because Nicole's father's place was rented on the first floor, people were passing by outside from time to time, some even glancing into the yard.
"Let them in!" Diana entered the house with a nervous heart, and Nicole's father, with mixed feelings, followed suit.
Abella and Winston exchanged a glance as if saying they agreed.
Winston closed the door to the yard and followed Abella into the house.
The living room was small but neatly arranged everywhere.
"Please, have a seat."
Upon hearing the words of Nicole's father, Abella and Winston sat on the sofa, looking obedient, almost like two well-behaved students.
Diana went to the kitchen to pour coffee. Abella wanted to say it was unnecessary, but seeing her preoccupied look, still thinking about what happened earlier, her attention elsewhere, absent-minded...
Nicole's father glanced at Abella and then at Winston, "Are you Siblings?"
They both nodded.
"Related in blood?"
Again, they nodded in unison.
"How long have you been in a relationship with Nicole?" Nicole's father turned to Winston and asked.
"For a year." Winston truthfully replied, "After a year, she left me, and I searched for her for another year."
In total, he and Nicole had been involved for two years.
Nicole's father recalled that Winston had indeed visited several times, each time inquiring about Nicole's whereabouts. Was it when Nicole left him?
"What did you do to upset her?"
"Nothing!"
Winston was a bit anxious, but Abella gently explained, "It seems Nicole got involved in some dangerous situation and didn't want to involve Winston , so she pretended to break up."
"Since you suspected Nicole might be involved in a dangerous event, why did you bring your sister along?"
Nicole's father knew this matter was far from simple. Winston could come alone, but why bring Abella along? What if something happened?
Winston wanted to say that his sister was not an ordinary person, and he could find her because of Abella's help...
Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass came from the kitchen.
Nicole's father immediately got up and hurried over. "Diana, what happened?"
Abella and Winston also went over and saw Diana had broken glass, squatting on the floor picking up the shards, her finger accidentally cut and bleeding.
"Don't move." The three of them yelled out simultaneously.
Diana was startled, regained her composure, and was no longer as absent-minded as before.
"Come over here, slowly, I'll handle the shards." Nicole's father reached out to her, afraid his wife would step on the broken glass.
Diana let him lead her out of the kitchen, and he went in to clean up the mess on the floor.
Abella examined her wound and asked softly, "Where's the first aid kit? I'll take care of it."
"No need, I'll just use a band-aid."
"No, this cut isn't small. It could get infected if not properly treated."
Perhaps not expecting the girl to be so insistent, Diana was a bit surprised, unconsciously reminded of her caring daughter.
"Abella is a doctor; she'll take care of you." Hearing Winston's words, both Diana and her husband were somewhat surprised, especially her husband, who even paused in his cleaning, finding it hard to believe.
This girl looked young, probably a high school student, yet she was already a doctor.
"Where's the first aid kit?" Abella asked again.
"It's in the first drawer to the left of the TV cabinet with some medicine."
Since it was a rented house, they needed a proper first aid kit or many medications. Abella skillfully took out what was required, disinfecting the wound with ease, leaving Diana somewhat stunned.
"It might sting a bit; bear with it." After disinfecting, Abella helped treat the wound.
Watching Abella 's serious demeanor, Diana was reminded of Nicole once again.
When she opened the door earlier, she saw a girl standing there with a cold temperament. For a moment, she felt like Abella resembled Nicole.
But she had to admit, Abella was even more beautiful than Nicole, her features perfect and impeccable.
Looking at Winston, the family's looks and temperament were far above average.
Although Nicole had never mentioned the siblings, judging from their behavior, their family background seemed anything but ordinary.
"Alright, don't touch water for now." Abella tidied up the items.
Seeing that the siblings meant no harm and were considerate, Diana's heart warmed slightly.
At this moment, Nicole's father had also finished cleaning up the kitchen mess, poured two cups of coffee, and brought them over. Seeing Abella had helped his wife with the wound, looking obedient and clever, their guard against them eased a bit.
"I haven't asked for your name yet." Diana knew the girl's brother was Winston, but she didn't know the name of the girl in front of her.
"I'm Abella."
Diana nodded and said to her husband, "Abella just said that what Nicole ate before was most likely not vitamin C but a highly toxic poison."
Upon hearing this, Nicole's father was skeptical and turned to Abella. "How can you be sure it was a highly toxic poison? Have you seen it before?"
"We tested it," Abella explained, "This powder is highly toxic, made from 16 poisonous herbs. If a healthy person ingests it, they would die immediately."
For instance, the mice in her lab died on the spot after licking this powder.
They didn't even have time to administer treatment.
"Are you sure?" Nicole's father asked, his voice trembling.
Abella nodded. "Sure."
"Since it's so toxic, why was Nicole fine after consuming it?" Nicole's father asked again, finding it hard to believe.
"We speculate that she may have been poisoned and needed another type of poison powder to counteract it. However, this process is extremely painful."
Abella shared what she knew with them. "This particular poison powder cannot be completely detoxified. So we suspect that the poison in her body may be incurable by any known antidote; hence, she had to use this poison powder to sustain her life."
"No, that's impossible." Nicole's father couldn't believe it at all. How could Nicole be poisoned and need another poison to survive? She had never mentioned anything like this before!
"So, have you seen Nicole eat something from the vitamin C bottle before?
"That was over a year ago," Diana confessed. "It was probably around last summer when I saw her pour the powder into the water by chance. I asked her what she was taking, and she smiled and said it was an iron supplement for whitening. Later, when I was cleaning, I saw 'vitamin C' written on the bottle, but I didn't think much of it."
