Chapter 793 Defeated
"I don't care," Abella shrugged.
"Cool, I'll just borrow a violin from someone here."
Elsa didn't bring her violin today, worried people might think she had some hidden agenda, so she left it at home on purpose.
"I got one," Clarence's voice piped up from the crowd.
Even though he was a Go whiz, his place was packed with musical instruments.
"By the way, this violin was a gift from Stringless," Clarence said as someone handed it over.
Clifford, spotting the fancy and familiar violin, couldn't help but ask, "Is this the one made by Antonio in 1716? I heard Stringless paid a fortune for it. When did she give it to you?"
Clarence, looking a bit smug, replied, "A little thing like this shows who Stringless cares about more."
"Why'd she give it to you? Did you twist her arm?" Clifford was clearly a bit jealous.
Abella knew Clifford was crazy about music, yet Stringless gave such a valuable item to Clarence, who was all about Go. She didn't even think of him!
Just as he was feeling bummed, he noticed a smirk on Abella's face, and it hit him. "I get it, she must've just left it with you for a bit to mess with me!"
Clarence, caught off guard, stubbornly said, "Can't you just admit Stringless likes me more than you?"
"I'll go first," Elsa said, grabbing the violin, which seemed to still have Stringless' touch.
She took a deep breath, went on stage, and after a moment of prep, poured all her feelings into the piece 'Worldly.'
Lately, to really nail the emotions in the piece, she’d been binge-watching movies about life's ups and downs.
With her eyes closed, her mind was flooded with movie scenes—happy reunions, joy, and sorrow.
All those feelings came together in 'Worldly.'
The guests were blown away by how well she played Clifford and Stringless' signature piece.
"Margaret, I've heard your daughter is a violin prodigy, and today, it's confirmed."
"How many years has Elsa been playing? To be this good is amazing."
"Your daughter is not only gorgeous but also super talented. You've got nothing to worry about."
Margaret smiled gracefully. "Thanks for the kind words. She still has a lot to learn."
"She still needs to learn? She's already killing it!"
"At this level, I bet there's no one her age who can match her."
"Yeah, I think Elsa's already top-notch. Don't be too hard on her. Use tonight's party to find her a great teacher. If Mr. Edward's busy, try Stringless."
"Yeah, Stringless' performance earlier was mind-blowing. If he takes Elsa under his wing, she'll be a star in no time."
On stage, Elsa played with her eyes closed, totally lost in the music.
She poured everything she’d learned recently, her insights from movies and life, into her performance.
When the piece ended, she bowed gracefully, earning a round of wild applause.
"Man, hardly anyone dares to play Mr. Edward and Stringless' 'Worldly' in public. It's a beast of a piece. One slip-up and you're toast."
"Yeah, even big-shot violinists steer clear of it 'cause they don't wanna be compared to Mr. Edward and Stringless. But Elsa's got guts and she nailed it tonight."
"Totally. For someone so young to pull off those emotions and tones is just wild."
"If Stringless were here and heard her, he'd definitely take her on as a student. Looks like our plan flopped again."
Hearing all the praise, Elsa knew she had leveled up big time since last time. She shot a confident, proud look at Abella.
"Your turn," she said, handing the violin over to Abella.
Only then did the guests realize these two were in a showdown.
"I gotta say, Elsa's got some serious guts challenging Abella, knowing she's the KnightStrategist."
"Sure, KnightStrategist is a Go master, but who knows about her violin skills?"
Abella stepped up, bow in her right hand, strings in her left. The moment she started playing, everyone was hooked.
"This sound... it's just like Stringless."
"Stringless just played this, and now hearing her, it's like their skill, tone, style, and vibe are identical."
"It's nuts. I thought Elsa was amazing, but Abella just took it to a whole new level with the same piece and the same violin."
And this "better" wasn't just a notch up; it was a whole different league!
Abella's music, like her, was pure and clear, cold and noble. The guests felt like they were transported into the piece's world, with just a girl and her violin, telling the story of life's highs and lows.
Elsa had only seen life in movies, but Abella had lived through all the joys and sorrows herself over the past decade. When it came to emotion, Elsa couldn't touch her.
When the piece ended, the audience was dead silent for a moment before bursting into applause.
"This birthday party is off the charts, especially Abella. She's blown me away."
"To be so young and play the violin like that."
"It's incredible."
Abella's music took everyone on a journey through life's joys and sorrows, love and hate, sparking endless chatter.
"Her performance is right up there with any top violinist today."
"This piece, 'Worldly,' only Mr. Edward and Stringless could really bring out all its emotions. But today, Abella showed she can do it solo!"
"Just one performance and I'm floored."
"Phenomenal."
It was a mind-blowing musical experience, like everyone's hearts had been scrubbed clean.
"In all my years, this is only the second time I've heard such a beautiful piece live. The first was just now when Mr. Edward and Stringless played."
"Same here. It's rare for live music to hit me like this."
Elsa's face went pale.
She couldn't believe that after all her practice on "Worldly," she was still outclassed by Abella.
She thought, 'Did Abella secretly practice this piece a ton? How else could she play it so perfectly?'
