Chapter 778 This Method Doesn't Work
As soon as Kimberly finished talking, Beckett jumped in, "Nah, Abella's all about the chef's grub. Plus, the chef's got that nutrition game on lock. Abella's got a ton on her plate every day and needs the right fuel. And come on, Abella definitely wants you to kick back and enjoy life at your age."
"Are you saying my cooking sucks?" Kimberly shot back.
"Not at all. Even if you burn or overcook something, I still think it's awesome! It's made with your love, after all."
Kimberly gave him a playful smack.
Beckett laughed. "Love makes me blind."
"Get outta here, what's love got to do with it?"
The family chatted happily for a bit before Kimberly remembered the new gadget she bought, a fancy massage hammer.
"Abella, let me work on those shoulders. Bonnie said you've been swamped in Verdania." Kimberly didn't really know what Abella was up to or what kind of trouble she faced, but Bonnie's words made her want to give Abella a shoulder rub.
"Honey, let me give you a massage too," Beckett said, massaging Kimberly's shoulders with his hands. "You've been cooking up a storm, you must be wiped."
Seeing the family all cozy and happy, Phillipe's gaze softened.
Turns out, not all rich families are messed up.
During dinner, Beckett and Kimberly kept chatting with Abella. They hadn't seen her in days, especially after the whole Beauty Skincare Group drama. They felt for the pressure and hardships Abella was dealing with at such a young age and showered her with love and care.
"Uncle Beckett and Auntie Kimberly, you should eat more too," Phillipe said politely, looking at Beckett and Kimberly. "Thanks for whipping up so much food for me tonight."
"Phillipe, no need to be so formal with us. Swing by for dinner whenever you can," Beckett said warmly.
"Yeah," Kimberly added with a smile, "Come over whenever, don't be shy."
Lola felt even more bummed out seeing no one noticed her sulking.
Finally, when dinner wrapped up, Lola saw the servants bringing the fruit platter to the living room and quickly said, "Let me handle it."
She wanted to fix her image in Phillipe's eyes.
Before the servants could react, she grabbed the fruit platter and smiled dutifully at her parents. "Mom and Dad, have some fruit after dinner."
"Where's Alana? Why are you bringing the fruit platter?" Kimberly asked, surprised.
"She said she had a bit of a stomachache. It's cool, doesn't matter who brings it, it's not heavy. You don't need to worry about me doing some work."
After her parents had some fruit, Lola was about to bring the platter to Phillipe when he stood up first and said, "Mr. Medici and Mrs. Medici, Abella and I are gonna take a walk outside."
Beckett quickly said, "Have some fruit first?"
"Nah, I'll spend a bit more time with Abella before I head out."
Beckett then looked at Abella. "Abella, you not gonna have some?"
"I'm stuffed."
"Alright, you two go for a walk then, it's still early."
Phillipe grabbed Abella's hand. "Didn't you tell me earlier that Steven planted roses on your balcony that you can see from the garden? Show me."
"Sure thing."
Watching them leave, Lola felt a pang of jealousy. After a bit, she tried buttering up her parents, hoping they'd take her to Clarence's birthday bash. "Mr. Wodehouse's past birthdays were super low-key. This time, since he's hitting sixty, he's inviting a ton of people. This chance won't come around again. I know I'm not cut out to be Mr. Wodehouse's student. I just wanna see and learn. Mom, please take me. I heard Mr. Stringless will be there too. You know I love playing the violin. What if I get a chance to learn from Mr. Stringless? I heard the guests this time are top-notch. If I can find a teacher, I can bring honor to the family like Abella."
Kimberly lovingly patted her back. "It's not that I don't wanna take you. Those two invites were for your grandparents."
She and Beckett hadn't gotten any.
"Can I ask Grandpa and Grandma to take me?" Lola asked hopefully.
"But your grandparents recently went on a trip and caught a cold, so they declined," Kimberly gently explained, "Mr. Wodehouse's past birthdays were low-key because he didn't want too many people. This time, the invited guests are few and familiar. In other words, he doesn't want to take students or have anyone take students at his birthday party. If you wanna see and learn, there will be plenty of chances in the future. No need to rush this time."
Kimberly was a bit surprised. "In the past eighteen years, I've never heard you wanna attend anyone's birthday party. Especially an old gentleman's."
"That's because I see Abella has many impressive skills and wanna work hard and be awesome like her. If only Grandpa and Grandma hadn't declined."
Thinking this, Lola couldn't help but grumble about her grandparents. 'Clarence! Such an important invite, and they declined. They don't even ask if anyone else in the family wanted to go. Such a waste.'
Now that this plan was a bust, Lola was stumped, not knowing what to do.
After thinking for a bit, she thought of someone—Henry!
She wondered if Clarence had invited him. If so, she could ask Henry to take her.
Thinking this, she immediately left her parents. "Mom and Dad, I'm gonna take a bath!"
As long as she could crash Clarence's birthday party, she wouldn't worry about not finding a good teacher, and could outshine Abella in some way. Just thinking about it made her feel proud.
Thinking this, Lola felt superior again because even though Abella was the Medici family's daughter, she didn't have the qualifications to go!
