Chapter 1073 Died Five Days Ago
Earlier, Sam found out that several subsidiaries under Abella's aunt and uncle had run into trouble, possibly because of someone named Scorpion.
All he knew was that Scorpion was a man, sounded young, was relatively thin and tall, but had no other distinguishing features.
"The auction house owner said Scorpion showed up at a few auctions and sold some jewelry. I'll send you the photos of those pieces," Sam said, not ending the call but instead sending Abella a dozen photos via WhatsApp.
Abella opened the photos and saw they were all related to the Medici family—valuable jewelry, likely the pieces Lola's family had given her when she was still the Medici family's daughter.
"When Jacob and Maria were alive, they helped Lola sell a lot of jewelry, clothes, shoes, and bags privately to get money for her. It seems this Scorpion is probably one of Jacob's people," Abella remarked calmly.
"There are no cameras at the auction house because the guests don't want to leave any evidence. The owner said Scorpion always wore a black mask and a black baseball cap, only showing his eyes, which looked sharp and emotionless. He didn't bid on anything that night and left shortly after arriving," Sam explained.
"So, he wasn't there for the auction items," Abella speculated. "He must have been meeting someone, using the auction as a cover since it's crowded and has no surveillance. We can be sure Scorpion is one of Jacob's people and knows something about the mastermind."
Jacob had been forced to take poison by the mastermind, so capturing Scorpion might lead them to information about the mastermind, possibly for revenge.
But it was also possible that he was now answering to Lola, and the Medici family was also a thorn in his side.
"Keep tracking Scorpion's whereabouts," Abella instructed. "See if you can find any clues on the way to the auction house."
"Got it."
Abella had just ended the call when another one came in.
"Ms. Medici, it's me," said a voice from the police station. "According to protocol, we have to notify Isla's family since she's been detained, but... you should come see for yourself."
At the station, Abella learned that Isla's adoptive mother, Lucy, had been dead for several days. After examining the body and discussing her findings with the case officer, she followed another officer to see Isla.
"Isla's been tight-lipped, cursing you and demanding to see you," The officer said.
The interrogation room had a one-way mirror. Abella watched Isla inside, uncooperative and shouting to see her.
"I'll go in," Abella said, pushing open the door. Isla lunged at her, restrained only by the officers.
"You bitch! You didn't die! Why is God so unfair? Why did you survive the poison while my parents had to die? Let me go! I'll kill her!"
"Isla, this isn't the place for your tantrums!" An officer scolded.
"You can leave us," Abella said calmly. "I'll handle this."
The officers hesitated but agreed. "Be careful, Ms. Medici. We'll be right outside."
Abella nodded.
Once alone, Isla glared at her with pure hatred, wishing she could kill her on the spot.
"Don't say I didn't give you a chance," Abella said, pulling out a small folding knife and tossing it in front of Isla. "I won't fight back. You have three minutes."
Isla eyed the knife, suspecting a trap.
"Didn't you want to kill me?" Abella's tone was indifferent. "Here's your chance."
Isla didn't want to miss it. She was already facing a death sentence, so she picked up the knife and lunged at Abella.
Abella started a stopwatch on her phone. Isla, blinded by rage, couldn't land a single blow. Abella easily dodged every attempt.
After three minutes, Isla was exhausted, unable to even touch Abella.
Abella said coolly, "Do you know why I gave you this chance? To show you that even unarmed, you can't harm me. You'll never be my match."
Isla was furious. Her left leg, previously stabbed by Abella, had reopened, soaking the bandage with blood and causing her to sweat in pain.
"If you hadn't injured my hand and leg, who knows if I could've hit you!" Isla spat. "Try not dodging!"
Abella asked calmly, "Do you know where I just came from? Your adoptive mother, Lucy, died five days ago. I just saw her body."
Isla's expression flickered with panic before she regained composure.
"You don't seem surprised," Abella continued. "Five days ago was the day your biological parents were executed, the day you collected their ashes."
Isla's eyes burned with rage as she glared at Abella, hating her for her parents' deaths.
"I guess you decided to kill me that day, but your adoptive mother found out and tried to stop you. In the struggle, you killed her."
Isla's eyes darted nervously. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Her unease confirmed Abella's suspicions.
