"Abella, I challenge you. If you don't know Go, pick another skill," Elsa said confidently. "I'm good at piano, chess, calligraphy, and painting."
As a rich kid, she had all the chances to learn different talents. People around her secretly envied her looks and background.
"Go it is," Abella said reluctantly. "One minute."
Elsa, feeling smug, borrowed a Go set and let Abella go first.
"No need, I'll give you a three-move advantage."
Elsa felt insulted. She smiled and said, "That's not fair. Competitions should be fair. You go first."
Abella, not wanting to argue, made the first move.
Elsa thought Abella had no comeback and felt even more confident. But her smile faded quickly as the game got intense.
Despite the simple setup, Abella's skill put Elsa at a constant disadvantage, with her pieces getting captured.
In less than a minute, it was over. Many who came to watch barely arrived when the winner was decided.
Abella won, staying calm as if it was no big deal.
But Elsa, sitting in front of the Go board, felt like she'd been struck by lightning. She thought she could at least hold her ground for a minute, but the disastrous game made her feel deeply ashamed.
Abella's Go skills were impressive.
Being good at the violin was one thing, but she even crushed Elsa in Go.
As Abella stood up, someone exclaimed, "It's Mr. Garcia!"
