Chapter 541 The Chess Maniac Arrived
"Abella, I challenge you. If you don't know Go, pick another skill," Elsa said confidently. "I'm good at piano, chess, calligraphy, and painting."
As a rich kid, she had all the chances to learn different talents. People around her secretly envied her looks and background.
"Go it is," Abella said reluctantly. "One minute."
Elsa, feeling smug, borrowed a Go set and let Abella go first.
"No need, I'll give you a three-move advantage."
Elsa felt insulted. She smiled and said, "That's not fair. Competitions should be fair. You go first."
Abella, not wanting to argue, made the first move.
Elsa thought Abella had no comeback and felt even more confident. But her smile faded quickly as the game got intense.
Despite the simple setup, Abella's skill put Elsa at a constant disadvantage, with her pieces getting captured.
In less than a minute, it was over. Many who came to watch barely arrived when the winner was decided.
Abella won, staying calm as if it was no big deal.
But Elsa, sitting in front of the Go board, felt like she'd been struck by lightning. She thought she could at least hold her ground for a minute, but the disastrous game made her feel deeply ashamed.
Abella's Go skills were impressive.
Being good at the violin was one thing, but she even crushed Elsa in Go.
As Abella stood up, someone exclaimed, "It's Mr. Garcia!"
Dominic appeared in the crowd, and no one knew how long he'd been watching. Many eyes turned to him as he smiled kindly at Abella and applauded.
"Wonderful, truly wonderful. I didn't expect you to know Go as well. Who taught you?"
To surpass Elsa in both violin and Go was impressive.
Elsa's talent in Go was no less than her violin skills.
But Abella didn't mention Clarence Wodehouse. Instead, she asked, "Mr. Garcia, what brings you here?"
Why wasn't he judging and instead came backstage?
"I wanted to add you on WhatsApp." Dominic smiled.
Earlier, he had mentioned that if she ever changed her mind, she was welcome to visit the violin association.
He meant it!
Seeing Abella leave the audience, he followed her!
Everyone was stunned. It seemed he really liked Abella and wanted to take her as a student.
Not wanting to embarrass him, Abella took out her phone and handed it to him.
After scanning her contact, Dominic said with a smile, "Added."
Abella accepted his friend request. "I have to lead another team in a competition, so I won't disturb you, Mr. Garcia."
"Alright." Dominic nodded. "Feel free to contact me anytime."
After speaking, he walked past Elsa without even glancing at her.
He thought ignoring her would make the prideful Elsa feel better.
But Elsa misunderstood and felt even more resentful and jealous!
She felt Dominic didn't take her seriously, always treating Abella kindly in front of her, making her feel invisible.
Everyone gathered around Abella.
"Abella, you're amazing! Not only are you great at the violin, but you're also excellent at Go!"
"When did you start learning Go?"
"Someone miscalculated, trying to beat you but ended up embarrassing herself again."
"Exactly."
At that moment, a strong voice cut through the chatter.
"Hey, what's going on here? Why is it so lively?"
Everyone turned to see the famous Clarence!
Clarence was a renowned board game master, especially skilled in Go.
Due to his obsession with Go, many called him the "Go Maniac."
Why would such a prominent figure show up at a small competition at Innovation University and wander backstage?
Could it be that, like Dominic, Clarence was also looking for talented juniors to mentor?
With this in mind, everyone's eyes turned to Elsa.
Elsa's Go skills were taught by master Ben Jackson, who was rumored to have received guidance from Clarence.
However, with Elsa losing to Abella, would Clarence still consider her as a potential disciple?
"Can someone tell me what's happening here with all these people?" Clarence's voice traveled through the crowd.
There were so many people that Clarence didn't even see Abella.
Hearing from Rodolfo that Abella would be leading a team at Innovation University today, he had come specifically to find her!
Abella had promised to play a few games with him, but months had passed without a trace of her!
He had to come in person.
What was even more frustrating was that the mischievous old Rodolfo often posted photos of Abella in their group chats, teasing everyone.
Every time they saw Abella working with him, the group members couldn't help but scold Rodolfo, who enjoyed it immensely.
Today, Innovation University's president Kenneth was unavailable to host him, so Vice President Hubert Watkins accompanied him.
"I heard that Elsa was playing Go with Abella," Hubert said with a smile.
"Oh my..." Clarence raised his eyebrows.
Was Abella playing Go here?
Who dared to challenge Abella?
Wasn't that just asking for trouble?
"Let's go take a look."
To see if they needed to call an ambulance, given Abella's skills could easily give someone a heart attack.
Hubert thought Clarence was interested in the Go game. After taking a few steps, he noticed Abella preparing to leave.
The game seemed to be over.
"Grandpa Wodehouse?"
Seeing Clarence, Abella was surprised but also regretted wasting a minute with Elsa earlier.
Otherwise, she could have avoided Clarence.
"You rascal, making me come all the way here to find you," Clarence couldn't help but start nagging as soon as he saw Abella.
Everyone was stunned.
It sounded like Clarence had come specifically to find Abella?
But Abella seemed like she wanted to slip away?
