Chapter 788 She Knows How to Instigate

The last time something this wild went down was when Clarence whipped out that crazy expensive Go set. Word on the street was it took three years just to pick the materials and another three to handcraft the 32 pieces, each worth a cool $200,000.

Who would've thought the owners of the world's two priciest Go sets would both be chilling here?

"Lola, why don't you bust out that fancy Go set and show everyone?" Enid piped up, trying to give Lola her moment to shine. After all, the chick who swiped her fiancé was right there, and she needed to one-up her!

Lola forced a polite smile. "Something that big? No way I lug that around all the time."

"Didn't you just show me a pic of it on your phone? Lots of folks have never seen such a pricey Go set; why not let everyone have a peek?"

Enid meant well, but Lola wished she could zip her lips.

"Did KnightStrategist really hook you up with such a baller gift?"

"Then you must be his top student."

Everyone felt a twinge of regret; seemed like there was no shot at becoming KnightStrategist's student.

"Come on, show us the Go set!"

"I wanna see it too."

"I've only heard about how valuable it is; never seen it in person."

"Let me check it out too."

Lola smiled and said, "My phone's about to die. If you wanna see it, I'll post it on my social media later, and you can take your time gawking at it."

Everyone thought she was dodging and was about to drop it.

Out of nowhere, Clarence had someone bring out that expensive Go set and asked in front of everyone, "Ms. Lola Medici, is this the one you're talking about?"

Everyone was floored. 'How the heck is this Go set in Clarence's hands?'

"I've seen this Go set before. It used to belong to the Go set collector Mr. Banks. I saw it at his place. Later, when Go King won the championship, Mr. Banks gave it to him!"

"Mr. Wodehouse, didn't Go King give this Go set to Ms. Lola Medici? How's it in your hands?"

"Did Ms. Lola Medici hand it over to you?"

"What the heck is going on?"

Lola's face went ghostly pale. She couldn't believe her eyes. How could this expensive Go set be here?

"Haha, what a twist. This Go set was indeed given to me by Go King!" Clarence's words left everyone in shock, and they instinctively looked at Lola.

Lola tried to keep her cool, but inside, she was freaking out.

"KnightStrategist knew I was nuts about Go, so the day he got this expensive Go set, he handed it over to me!" Clarence said again, and everyone was once again floored.

So where did the expensive Go set Lola mentioned come from?

Was she lying?

Did she not have a Go set at all, and KnightStrategist never gave her one? Was she just making it up?

Even Enid looked at Lola, puzzled. 'What the heck is going on? Isn't there only one such expensive Go set?'

"The Go set I have," Lola pretended to be calm, forcing a polite smile, and explained slowly, "is different from this one. KnightStrategist made it for me himself. It's priceless to me, so when I talked to my friends about it, I called it an expensive Go set. It's not the one you're thinking of."

Everyone suddenly got it. So that's how it was.

"Who would've thought KnightStrategist could whip up Go pieces and be such a boss to his students?"

"Ms. Lola Medici, you really lucked out with your teacher."

"Is your teacher here today?"

"Is he coming?"

Lola had no clue who KnightStrategist was. She just wanted to flex in front of her friends earlier and didn't expect it to blow up like this.

But she wasn't dumb. Seeing that no one mentioned KnightStrategist being here, she smiled and said, "He hasn't shown up yet."

"When's he getting here?"

"Since he's not here yet, why don't you have a match with Abella?"

"You're KnightStrategist's student; it would be epic!"

Clarence grinned and said, "Then let's do it. It'll add some class to my birthday bash. No one can back out! Tonight, I'm all about Go, and I wanna see who's got the skills!"

Lola felt like the ground was falling out from under her.

Sure, she could play Go, but she was no match for Abella. Heck, she couldn't even beat Betsy or Enid here.

She came today to meet Stringless and hoped Stringless would take her on as a student.

She didn't come to play Go and make a fool of herself.

"Lola, if you're not feeling well, don't push it."

At this moment, Henry noticed her discomfort and stepped in. "Sorry everyone, Lola mentioned earlier that she had a headache. We were planning to leave after Mr. Wodehouse blew out the candles and cut the cake, but it seems we need to bounce early."

"Don't go, don't leave so soon. Isn't her teacher KnightStrategist arriving soon?"

"She's KnightStrategist's student; she should at least wait for her teacher to show up before leaving, right?"

"The party hasn't even kicked off yet. Just play a few moves and let us see."

"Yeah, just a few moves. I saw Lola was fine just now. How come she suddenly has a headache?"

Clearly, some folks weren't buying it.

Lola could only rub her forehead, pretending to be uncomfortable. "I didn't want to spoil Mr. Wodehouse's fun just now."

"Then don't spoil it now either." Elsa in the crowd smiled innocently. "Last time, you had a terrible stomachache and still easily won against your opponent! Don't be modest; Mr. Wodehouse and everyone are waiting for you!"

Lola didn't expect Elsa to stir the pot at this moment. 'When did I have a stomachache last time, and when did I easily win against my opponent? Elsa is totally making this up! This is too much!'

"And the time before that, you had a fever, and someone insisted on playing Go with you. You beat her in less than a minute," Elsa kept pushing, "And the time before that, you were in the hospital, with one hand on an IV drip, and a Go enthusiast came to challenge you. Even though you were sick, you still easily beat him!"

Everyone was amazed.

"Don't worry about beating Abella. Abella's got a strong mentality! It's a rare chance to have a worthy opponent," Elsa said this and thoughtfully pulled Lola to the Go board, "Abella, she's not feeling well. Just play for a minute or two, don't wear her out."

Abella stayed silent.

She could easily see that Elsa was trying to embarrass Lola.

"Lola, if you're not feeling well, I'll take you to rest," Henry added.

"Sir, can't you wait for just a minute or two?"
