Chapter 1076 Jumping Off a Building
In the blink of an eye, it was Friday.
Henry and Lola's wedding was held in grand style at the Sovereign Mirage Hotel.
The internet was flooded with coverage of their wedding. Henry had invited hundreds of reporters, along with his business partners and all his friends.
Except for Cecil, all their friends showed up to support them.
Without inviting any family or relatives, the people Henry knew were enough to make the wedding a lavish affair.
At the auspicious moment, Lola appeared in a stunning wedding dress designed by a top designer, adorned with a priceless crown and jewelry. She rose from below the stage, coming into view of all the guests.
Today, she wasn't in a wheelchair. Instead, a support chair was hidden under her voluminous wedding dress. The dress was so large and fluffy that the guests couldn't tell she had any issues with her legs. From their perspective, it looked like she was standing on the stage.
With the host's guidance, Henry walked down the red carpet, step by step, towards Lola. He took her hand and recited his vows with deep affection and commitment.
As flower petals rained down, Henry placed a priceless diamond ring on Lola's finger.
Amidst the enthusiastic applause, they kissed. To avoid any mishaps, Henry said a few words of thanks to the guests and then led Lola off the stage, disappearing from view.
A celebrity took the stage to sing a fitting song titled "I Will."
The guests were captivated by the performance.
Backstage, Henry asked Lola if she was tired and if using the support chair was difficult. Lola gently shook her head, still basking in the spotlight.
Just then, Henry received a phone call, and his expression changed. "What did you say? Okay, I'll be right there."
Lola saw him hang up and quickly asked, "What's wrong?"
"My mom apparently jumped off a building. She's been taken to the hospital. I need to go."
As Henry was about to leave, Lola grabbed his hand. "I'll go with you. I'm your wife now!"
After all, she was part of the Hall family now!
Henry looked at her voluminous wedding dress, knowing it would be difficult for her to move. "The wedding can't go on without the main characters. I'll go check on things and contact you later. You wait here."
Lola watched him leave in a hurry, not insisting further.
At the hospital, Whitney had been rushed into the emergency room. When Henry arrived, he saw the panicked servants and bodyguards.
"Where are my dad and sister?" Henry asked.
"Mr. Hall fainted when he saw Mrs. Hall's condition. The doctor said it was a stroke. He's in the ICU now. Ms. Hall went to the wedding venue, didn't she?" Wren was puzzled. She had been surprised to see Henry arrive alone, without Melanie.
"When did she go to the wedding venue?" Henry took out his phone, worried that Melanie might cause trouble at the wedding. He was about to call her.
Wren said, "About an hour ago."
Hearing that, Henry paused.
It took less than half an hour to get from their house to the Sovereign Mirage Hotel. If Melanie had gone to the hotel after seeing Whitney's condition, they would have crossed paths before he left the hotel.
But he hadn't seen Melanie when he left.
Just then, his phone rang again. It was Melanie calling.
"Melanie," Henry answered immediately. "Where are you?"
"Hello, are you the brother of the phone owner? I saw your number in the recent contacts. I'm a nurse at NYU Medical Center. The owner was in a car accident and was brought here by a good Samaritan. She's in critical condition and needs surgery urgently. Can you come and handle the paperwork?"
"What did you say?" Henry was in disbelief. "Which floor are you on? I'll be right there."
"The twelfth floor of the emergency department."
"Okay."
Without wasting any time, Henry took the elevator to the twelfth floor, paid the fees, and went to find the attending doctor to inquire about Melanie's condition.
"The patient has multiple rib fractures on both sides, a fractured sternum, lung contusions, traumatic spleen rupture, and other injuries. She was in severe shock when she arrived and is in critical condition."
Henry's heart ached instantly. He anxiously asked, "When will she be out of danger?"
"It's hard to say. Even if she survives this, there are several more hurdles she needs to overcome. Rest assured, our surgical team will do everything they can to save her."
Henry looked towards the direction of the operating room. After a while, he received another call from a bodyguard. "Mr. Hall, Mrs. Hall's attending doctor wants to talk to you."
"Okay, I'm coming up." Henry couldn't believe that three of his family members had ended up in the hospital in one night. He was utterly exhausted.
"Mr. Hall," The attending doctor said when he saw Henry. He began to report Whitney's condition. "When Mrs. Hall arrived, she was in critical condition. We performed a series of preoperative checks and symptomatic treatments. Initially, she was vomiting uncontrollably. Before the test results came back, we were concerned about increased intracranial bleeding and the presence of a hematoma causing intracranial pressure, so we intubated her and put her on a ventilator."
The doctor continued, "Mrs. Hall's blood pressure kept dropping, and the internal bleeding didn't stop. Her heart rate on the monitor kept rising. We administered red blood cells and plasma, and used norepinephrine to maintain her blood pressure. We also noticed her potassium levels were low, so we gave her potassium to prevent electrolyte imbalance."
The doctor paused before continuing, "The diagnosis revealed multiple fractures, internal organ vascular injuries, lung contusions, and over twenty other injuries. The rich vascular tissue in the retroperitoneum and pelvis makes it difficult to stop the bleeding surgically. The outcome of this surgery may not meet our expectations, but rest assured, our blood bank is well-stocked, and our surgical team is doing everything they can to save her."
Henry didn't fully understand the medical jargon, but he could tell Whitney's condition was extremely serious.
"Is her life in danger? When will she recover?" Henry was very worried.
"Mrs. Hall's condition is precarious. Even if this surgery is successful, there is a high risk of multiple complications. It will be very difficult for her to overcome each one."
Henry felt like his heart was being torn apart. He grabbed the doctor's shoulders and pleaded, "Doctor, you have to save her."
"Rest assured, the doctors inside are doing everything they can."
As Henry waited on the bench outside, he saw a servant nearby and asked, "Did you see my mom jump?"
