Chapter 671 Want to Learn Skills

Hearing that his old man was outta the woods, Caleb finally let out a big sigh of relief. "I'll hit up your folks and spread the good news, make 'em happy too."

"Cool," Abella said, ditching her sterile gown. But as soon as she stepped out, a bunch of docs blocked her path.

"Sorry for being jerks earlier and offending you. Please forgive us," they all bowed, looking super sorry.

The lead doc, a chick named Adeline, stepped up. "I'm Adeline. I was outta line earlier and made a fool of myself. My bad for being arrogant and clueless. I missed that tiny spot on the ultrasound, didn't realize it could be a blood clot. Kept giving the patient meds for breathing issues and a fast heart rate, almost blew the best time for treatment."

Lisa chimed in too, looking all sincere about her mistake.

Another doc, Calvin Simmons, felt like a total noob. If he hadn't seen Abella rock that surgery, he wouldn't have believed a young girl could be so badass in the OR.

But Beatrice Stewart was secretly stoked, thinking, 'I actually got to do surgery with someone who's a legit Medical Authority.'

This gig would make her a hot commodity at big hospitals.

"It's cool, it's all in the past," Abella said, brushing it off and heading to check on her grandpa in the ward.

"Dr. Wilson," a male doc, Brad Wright, called out, but Abella shot him a warning look. He froze for a sec before correcting himself. "Dr. Medici."

She probably didn't want folks knowing she was Abbott and wanted to keep her identity on the down-low.

Sure enough, when he called her Dr. Medici, Abella didn't seem as ticked off.

Brad let out a breath. "Could you stick around for a few days and let us learn from you?"

"Yeah, if we can pick up some skills, we can save more patients," Adeline added.

Lisa jumped in, "Your suturing technique is off the charts, like, no one can touch it."

"Dr. Medici, I wanna learn too," Beatrice said, looking all hopeful.

"I don't take students," Abella said flatly. "I don't teach my skills."

"We know we're not worthy to be your students and that you don't share your skills easily. Just a few tips would be awesome."

"Just a couple of questions."

"Oh, Dr. Medici, there's a tough case. Can you check it out?"

"I got a patient too."

With their requests piling up, Abella just pushed open her grandpa's ward door and walked in. "I'm super busy, sorry."

Seeing the door close, the others had to zip it.

If they'd known she was Abbott, the Medical Authority, they would've been way more respectful earlier. Now, Abella didn't wanna waste time with them.

Meanwhile, Lola had just whipped up a fruit platter and was about to take it to her folks when she heard Kimberly's excited voice.

"What did you say? The surgery was a hit? Abella was the lead surgeon? That's awesome!" Kimberly was so stoked she started tearing up. "I knew Abella was the best. How's Father now? Really? Abella said it herself? He'll wake up in a day or two?"

Lola was so pissed that the plate in her hand was shaking. 'Damn it, Abella steals the spotlight again.'

"If it weren't for the Wren family having such a serious issue, I'd really want to go see him." Kimberly was torn. "In a few days, Beckett and I will go. It's been ages since we saw Father. He'll be so happy to know his granddaughter is so capable. Let Abella stay in Verdania for a few more days. Let her have lunch and take a nap first; we've already had dinner here."

Libertya was six hours ahead of Verdania. It was 7 PM here, and only 1 PM there.

After Kimberly hung up, Beckett asked excitedly, "Father is okay?"

Kimberly replied, "Abella checked him out and found a small hole in his heart. The blood leaked out and formed a clot that just blocked the hole. The previous docs couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Luckily, Abella insisted on an ultrasound, found the problem, and did the surgery in time."

"Abella is truly something else," Beckett sighed. "Her skills are thanks to those who taught her. In the years we couldn't find her, they treated Abella like their own granddaughter and taught her everything. Once things settle down, we should visit each of them."

"Dad, Mom, who are you planning to visit?" Lola brought over the fruit platter, smiling sweetly.

"Lola, you're here?" Beckett said cheerfully. "This fruit looks different from usual. Did you make it yourself?"

"Is it so ugly that you could tell right away?" Lola had carved the cantaloupe into a bouquet, with mangoes shaped like roses, and added grapes and watermelon balls.

"It's very creative. Let me try one," Beckett said, but he first fed a piece to Kimberly before tasting a peeled grape himself. "Sweet, delicious."

"Dad, Mom, who were you planning to visit? I'm on winter break now and have time to go with you."

"Just the people who taught Abella."

"Can I learn from them too?" Lola showed great interest. "If I could have half of Abella's skills, I could help more people and not let Abella bear all the burden alone."

Beckett thought it was a good idea and was about to agree when Kimberly said, "Those teachers have never taken students, only teaching Abella. We can guess their reasons. Lola, you should focus on your studies. Having Abella in the family is enough to handle emergencies."

Those teachers were Abella's mentors. Letting Lola learn from them would mean sharing not just family but also teachers with Abella.

It wasn't that Abella was stingy or unwilling to share, but those teachers probably already had someone in mind.

They took students based on fate, qualifications, and talent, not on relationships or introductions.

Lola felt very uncomfortable hearing this. 'Does it mean that only Abella should shine? That with Abella handling everything, they don't need me, the adopted daughter?'

"If you want to learn skills, I can find other teachers for you. They don't have to be the same as Abella's," Beckett said with a smile.
