Chapter 760 I'll Forgive You If You Eat It
Lola suddenly lit up, "Henry, you're the best. With you around, I don't feel like the world has totally ditched me. Even if I'm not really a Medici, can't have the same old happiness, or even keep my fancy title, as long as you're here, you'll still spoil me. My happiness hasn't taken a hit, so having you as my boyfriend is just awesome!"
Henry's earlier gloom vanished, replaced by a mix of being touched and feeling guilty.
He was touched because Lola finally opened up to him.
He felt guilty because he'd been doubting her feelings since last night, which had bummed him out.
But now, he was super pumped and happy.
"Lola, my bad. I didn't take care of you today and didn't even notice you were upset," Henry said, feeling guilty. "From now on, I'll treat you even better. You don't want me to go after Abella, so I'll hold off for now. But if she messes with us again, I won't let it slide. I won't let your pain go unnoticed."
"Henry, you're amazing." Lola's voice was dripping with sweetness. "If you were here right now, I might not be able to resist kissing you."
Henry's desire kicked in, and his breathing got heavier.
He thought, 'Since when did Lola get so good at being flirty?'
Seeing he bought it, Lola shyly said, "You're such a tease, I'm done talking. I'm hanging up now."
Before Henry could respond, he heard the click of the call ending.
His gaze softened, and a happy smile crept onto his lips. An employee nearby looked on in shock. 'Is Mr. Hall actually smiling? And so happily, so contentedly. Who's on the other end of that call? Who could change his mood so much?'
Henry opened WhatsApp and shot a message to Lola.
Henry: [Did the doc give you any meds? A month to recover is way too long. I'll get another doc to see if we can speed this up.]
Lola quickly replied: [Sure.] Even sent a kissing emoji.
Without wasting a second, Henry contacted another doctor.
Lola agreed to give him a chance to see the injuries on her hand and back, hoping the doctor would tell him how bad they were.
The more he felt sorry for her, the more he'd hate Abella.
When the time came, it would make it easier for him to deal with Abella.
Later that evening, David said to Abella in a playful tone, "Abella, that fried chicken we had the other night was bomb. I can't stop thinking about it. Can we get some fried chicken for a late-night snack? And maybe some skewers?"
Abella smiled. "You're still not fully recovered. You should stick to a light diet."
"Just a little bit!"
After David's begging, Abella finally caved. "But not too much."
"Don't worry, I won't go overboard! Just a few!"
With Abella's okay, David immediately placed the order. Before long, the chef brought out two huge grills loaded with hundreds of skewers.
Abella was speechless. "Didn't you say you'd just have a few skewers to satisfy your craving?"
David couldn't stop munching. "I meant a few of each flavor."
Just then, Lola showed up in the garden, limping on purpose. Seeing her like that, David couldn't help but ask, "Lola, what's up with your foot? Why are you limping?"
Lola pretended to be scared and glanced at Abella before saying, "I'm fine, I just..."
Before she could finish, Bonnie cut in, "She was just messing around last night and fell. Lola, you should apologize to Abella. You said a lot of hurtful stuff and acted out of line. You owe her an apology."
Tears welled up in Lola's eyes, looking all pitiful and wronged.
She'd been beaten by Abella, couldn't tell her grandparents, and now had to apologize to Abella in front of everyone?
Wasn't Bonnie being way too obvious with her bias?
"Yeah, you were too harsh on Abella last night," Vanessa chimed in. "Even though we know you were out of control, it still came from your mouth. You should apologize to Abella."
"I know I messed up last night," Lola said, looking all sad. "Even though I got hurt and my hand is fractured, I still said those things. Abella, I'm sorry. Let me toast to you."
She reached for a small glass of juice from the table, but Bonnie handed her a bunch of skewers instead. "No need to toast. What if someone spiked the juice? Just eat these skewers, and Abella will forgive you."
Lola looked at the skewers in Bonnie's hand, covered in a thick layer of chili powder, and tearfully said, "Aunt Bonnie, I can't handle spicy food."
"That's exactly why you need to eat it to show you're sincere," Bonnie said with a sweet smile. "Besides, it's not that spicy, just for show. Do you think I'd really make it too spicy for you? If you don't believe me, let your grandmother try it."
Bonnie picked a non-spicy one and handed it to Vanessa. Vanessa took a bite and nodded. "It's not spicy at all."
"I know you rarely eat skewers, so I wanted to take this chance to let you have more," Bonnie said, grabbing Lola's hand and making her hold the skewers. "Alright, everyone, let's eat!"
Lola could feel the greasy skewers in her hand. She took a bite, and it was insanely spicy!
She kept coughing and even teared up from the heat, saying, "I really can't eat it, it's too spicy."
"You can't handle this level of spiciness?" Bonnie laughed. "Then, as you said, drink the juice."
Lola nodded.
Bonnie placed a huge jug of juice in front of Lola, at least eleven inches tall. "This can't be spicy, right?"
Vanessa knew that last night, Lola had mistaken Bonnie for Abella and had said a lot of hurtful things. This morning, the two had another argument. Bonnie, being straightforward, just wanted Lola to apologize sincerely.
So she said, "Lola, just drink it. It's not much."
Lola looked at the massive jug of juice in front of her, and with tears in her eyes, drank it all. Her stomach felt like it was about to burst. Drinking such a huge jug of juice at night, she couldn't hold it in and soon ran to the bathroom with diarrhea.
