Chapter 312 Are You Leaving Me Too?
During self-administered euthanasia process, court personnel and a notary must be present, and the entire process needs to be recorded.
Subsequently, this record must be provided to the American authorities as evidence that it was the patient's personal choice for euthanasia, unrelated to others.
As long as Mr. Walker hadn't injected himself with the drug, he could stop the process at any time. But he truly didn't want to live anymore. Before rushing to death, there was finally a glimmer of light in his eyes. Barbara was his pillar of support, and with her gone, he couldn't find any reason to keep living. His entire life's struggle had been for Barbara!
After he signed the euthanasia execution document, he initiated the infusions himself and waited for death. The process only took four minutes. If the butler hadn't notified Abella in advance, and if she hadn't rushed over in a private jet, she wouldn't have been able to see Mr. Walker in his last four minutes...
In the bedroom stood a court officer, a notary, a family doctor, a nurse, and a servant. The spacious and bright master bedroom was filled with a deathly stillness, and everyone's expressions were of sorrow.
Abella didn't know how she managed to walk to the window next to Mr. Walker. Choking on her words, she asked, "Are you leaving me too?"
"Abella..." Seeing her, Mr. Walker smiled and then looked at Phillipe, "You're here too..."
The butler must have leaked the news...
"Don't leave me all alone." Abella knelt by the bed, deeply reluctant. She knew that in order to stop this process, Mr. Walker himself had to agree. So she grasped his hand and pleaded, "Grandma has Grandpa with her in heaven, your going there won't help. You might as well stay and keep me company..."
Mr. Walker's smile became more peaceful, "I'll just watch over her from afar, not to disturb her... Wherever she is, that's where I'll be... That's all."
Abella knew that with every passing second, his chances of survival decreased. So she stood up, intending to stop the injection process. But Mr. Walker grabbed her hand and said, "Abella, grant me this..."
Abella froze.
"This is my decision, made after deep thought and consideration. I don't want to spend the rest of my life in torment... I want to be free..."
"There are many ways to find relief... I can take you around to distract you, to every place Grandma wanted to go... The plants and flowers Grandma left behind can also be transplanted into your garden... And, didn't you want to watch me grow up? To see me in my wedding dress..."
Abella continued to plead, "The thing Grandma regretted the most was not being able to see me in my wedding dress... Can you see it for her?"
Mr. Walker smiled and shook his head, looking at her fondly, "There are other old men who can accompany you as you grow up, witness your marriage... Let me go, you can stop me for once, can you stop me a thousand times?"
He truly wanted to go to the other world, even if he could only watch over Barbara from afar...
Abella held his hand, her eyes becoming teary.
"Boy." Mr. Walker called out to Phillipe, "I'm leaving my precious granddaughter to you. If you dare to mistreat her in this life, I won't let you off even as a ghost... She still has a dozen grandfathers who will help me deal with you. Make sure she is happy."
Phillipe knew that once Mr. Walker had made a decision, nothing could change his mind. He knelt by the bed, holding Mr. Walker's other hand, and said hoarsely, "This is very cruel to Abella."
Just over ten days ago, she had lost her grandmother, and now, she was losing Mr. Walker...
"Forgive me for being selfish this once..." Knowing that time was running out, Mr. Walker held onto Phillipe's hand and said, "Boy, you haven't agreed yet..."
Phillipe's eyes reddened, "I promise you, I will protect her with my life, and treat her well..."
"Good, good..." Mr. Walker closed his eyes in relief. Before his death, he had his granddaughter and future grandson-in-law to send him off. He wouldn't be laughed at for having no descendants in heaven or hell.
Seeing him close his eyes and pass away peacefully, Abella couldn't help but lean over his body and cry silently.
The court officer and the notary finished recording the video and left after offering a few words of comfort. The family doctor and nurse also bid Abella a sorrowful goodbye.
In the spacious bedroom, only the girl remained, kneeling by the bed, her shoulders shaking.
Phillipe gently stroked her back, hoping to offer some comfort.
And the butler just covered his face, trying hard not to cry out loud.
They knew that Mr. Walker's love for Barbara was too deep, transcending life and death...
After mourning for an afternoon, the butler handed over to Abella a video that Mr. Walker had recorded before he died, "The old master recorded this video before he died and asked me to make sure it got to you."
Abella knew that it must contain his last words. She took it and played it in the living room.
In the video, Mr. Walker's kind face explained why he chose this way to die, as living was too painful for him. The only thing he couldn't let go of now was Abella.
He told Abella not to be sad, to live well, and gave her many reminders and instructions, then arranged his affairs.
"Although I can't bear to see you carry such a heavy burden at your young age... forgive me, let me be selfish this once, let me have my way."
"After I'm gone, all the property in my name will be given to you, for you to inherit."
"I had planned to wear this suit at your wedding... What a pity..." Mr. Walker said, and then laughed, "I had planned to wear this suit and outshine those old men... How about it, do I look handsome in this suit, with this hairstyle?"
Abella's tears started flowing.
"I've also arranged for someone to notify them after I'm gone, and I've recorded videos for them... They'll come to send me off on my last journey, Abella, study well, be a useful person to society, take care of yourself, be happy."
In the video, Mr. Walker waved goodbye to her, "In the next life, I still want to be your grandfather."
Abella immediately broke down in tears.
Phillipe held her and comforted, "This was his choice, don't be sad... When Mr.Walker left, he was happy."
Although Abella knew that this way was a relief for Mr. Walker, losing two loved ones in such a short period was still very hard for her.
"I'm still here." Phillipe patted her back gently, like comforting a child, "Don't cry."
Abella cried in his arms until it was dark, until the other elderly who had received the news arrived. Together, they held a simple funeral, letting Mr. Walker rest in peace...
In the blink of an eye, the summer vacation was over. This hot summer had taken away two of her loved ones. The hot breeze brought a hint of longing to Abella's eyes.
