Chapter 527 I Had Something to Tell You

Abella was feeling better. When news reached her through the servants that Raymond and Winston were on the verge of a confrontation, she made her way to Nicole's room. She knocked, and seeing Raymond all fired up, she calmly said, "Be easy on Winston."

"Abella, you don't know he..." Raymond started, ready to spill about how unreasonable Winston was. But then he caught Abella's warning look and felt a sudden pressure.

Honestly, in the years he'd known Abella, that look always made him uneasy.

His anger deflated a bit. "It's his fault," he muttered.

Abella turned her gaze to Winston. Under her stare, Winston admitted, "It's my fault."

"Talk it out properly," Abella said, leaning casually against the door. "Don't disturb my sleep."

Raymond's anger fizzled out even more. Nicole noticed the change, thinking Raymond really seemed to listen to Abella.

'Could he be interested in... no, impossible,' she thought.

"You, keep an eye on them," Abella told the servant at the door before leaving gracefully.

The servant stood there in a state of bewilderment. Abella's simple directive had seemingly altered the entire atmosphere.

"Raymond, a year ago, I didn't tell the family about my relationship with Nicole. That was my fault," Winston admitted. "I wanted to wait until things were more stable and propose to Nicole before telling the family. I didn't want my family to disrupt Nicole's life prematurely."

He knew how overzealous Kimberly could be, possibly spying on Nicole or even showing up at her place.

"My feelings for Nicole are clear as day," Winston said earnestly. "During the year she was gone, I was in pain and torment... Now that she's back, I will treat her doubly well, take care of her, and help her recover quickly."

Nicole was moved, her eyes softening as she looked at him.

"As for Clara, I've always seen her as a friend, never crossing any boundaries. I can swear to that," Winston explained. "My mom just loves to meddle with her sons' love life. My older brothers both have girlfriends, so naturally, her attention turned to me."

He thought that once he and Nicole had both recovered, he would take Nicole to meet his family.

Now was not the right time.

"But you know how my mother values social status. Carol lacks a high-class lineage, isn't one for social events, and doesn't conform just to please others. Besides, she's set to inherit an organization."

None of these characteristics aligned with Kimberly's preferences.

"My mom cares more about my happiness. As long as it's someone I like, she will definitely approve." Winston spoke with conviction on this matter.

"Moreover, I don't think there's anything wrong with Nicole's personality. I like her a lot. With me, she doesn't need to please anyone. Whether she's a socialite or has a prestigious family background doesn't matter to me at all." he added.

What was important was that Nicole could be by his side.

Meanwhile, Clara, holding the clothes Kimberly had bestowed upon her, had strolled into the garden of the Medici household and had yet to depart when she spotted Lola and Maria engaged in a hushed conversation.

Knowing Maria had been in Lola's service for eighteen years and the two shared a close bond, Clara approached them with a warm smile. "Hey, Lola."

"Clara?" Lola paused her conversation, giving Clara a sweet smile. "Are you here to see Winston? He won't be home for a while."

"I know. Kimberly said he's busy with work..."

"He'll be staying at his own place for a while. I think it's Moon Bay. How about we visit him together sometime?" Lola offered kindly.

Accompanied by her, the younger sister, Clara's motives appeared less conspicuous.

Clara felt her warmth and smiled. "Sure, thank you."

After some small talk, Clara went home. As soon as she entered her room, she couldn't wait to try on the clothes, posing playfully in front of the mirror and sending videos to Kimberly.

Nine dresses, nine videos, and she didn't forget to say:

Clara: [Thank you, Kimberly. Your taste is impeccable. These dresses are either classy or adorable, and each one is my favorite. Your generosity means the world to me.]

Satisfied with her videos, she decided to share them with Winston as well.

Soon, Winston's phone chirped nine times. Opening the messages, he found Clara's videos. Perplexed, he clicked on one and saw Clara in a charming, puffy dress, pulling cute faces before the mirror.

Since the video sound was on speaker, everyone heard Clara saying:

"Oh my god, this dress is so cute. The style is on point. It gives me a real boost. I'm loving it. It must have cost a fortune. Thank you, it's amazing."

Baffled by the sudden influx of videos from Clara, filled with seemingly random remarks, Winston sensed Raymond's scrutiny and swiftly responded to Clara.

Winston: [? ? ?]

Clara replied with a voice message, "Winston, don't I look good in these clothes?"

Her voice was sweet and cheerful, making Raymond even more furious.

Nicole, on the other hand, remained expressionless.

Winston was anxious and couldn't help but send a voice message:

Winston: "Explain these clothes first. Anyone who doesn't know might think I bought them... Why are you sending these to me?"

Clara: "Kimberly bought me so many beautiful clothes. I'm happy, so I'm sharing it with you. She is so thoughtful, treating me like her own daughter."

Raymond couldn't contain his anger any longer.

Winston: "My mom bought you clothes? Then send them to her, why are you sending them to me?"

Winston was frustrated.

Clara didn't know what had upset him and quickly called him.

Winston didn't want to answer at first, but after thinking about it, he felt it was necessary to clarify some things. So he answered and put it on speaker.

"Winston." Clara's sweet voice came from the other end. "I'm just sharing Auntie Kimberly's kindness with you. Why are you unhappy? Am I disturbing your work? Or don't you like these clothes?"

She seemed like a very considerate, gentle person who cared about Winston's feelings.

Nicole's gaze deepened. Thinking about her year-long relationship with Winston, she realized she had never spoken to him in such a gentle tone. It was always him who showed concern first.

"Clara, I have something to tell you." Winston looked at Raymond and Nicole seriously before saying, "We can only be friends. I'm sorry."

Clara's smile froze.
