Chapter 504 Bonding
Abella sensed something was wrong and asked calmly, "Is it hurting again?"
"Yes..." Carol clutched her abdomen, gritting her teeth, and even tried to reassure her, "It's nothing; this little pain is much lighter than my earlier episode."
"Let me see your hand." Abella began to give her a diagnosis again.
Carol curled up on the bed, her small face turned towards the wall. Through the small hole, she could just see Abella's beautiful chin and Abella's long fingers resting on her wrist.
For some reason, she suddenly thought of that man in her mind.
If she could, Carol would love to go back and see him, even if it was just from a distance.
"How long has this poison been tormenting you?" Abella released her hand and went to get a small medicine bottle from her backpack.
"A year and a half." Carol smiled bitterly, thinking, 'I've endured for such a long time, haven't I?'
Hearing that, Abella paused for a moment. For some reason, she suddenly thought of Nicole.
The poison in Nicole's body had been there for at least a year, maybe even a year and a half.
"Take some painkillers and get a good night's sleep." Abella poured a small pill from the bottle and handed it over.
Just now, Carol had only seen Abella's fingers. Now, seeing her entire beautiful hand, she felt a sense of delight.
She took the pill and swallowed it.
"I'm going to make a call." Abella got up and went outside the room, closed the door, and dialed that familiar number.
Phillipe seemed to have been waiting for Abella's call. The moment the screen lit up, he answered almost instantly.
Phillipe asked, "Are you safe?"
Abella said, "I'm very safe right now."
They spoke almost simultaneously. After blurting it out, they both paused and laughed together.
"Glad to hear that," Phillipe smiled warmly and indulgently, glancing at the time, "It's past three. When are you coming back? Is he bringing you back, or should I come to get you?"
"Probably not so soon; it will be around noon tomorrow."
From what Raymond said earlier, he should be leaving for a dozen hours.
"What about tonight? Do you have a place to rest? Is what you're doing complicated? Are you tired?"
"Not tired, just taking care of someone," Abella said, "Any news from Winston?"
"Still haven't received his call."
"If you have time tomorrow, go check on Winston for me. Make sure he eats something and changes his bandages."
"Okay."
"You too," Abella added, "You must rest well tonight. Don't wait for me. I'll come back when it's time."
Phillipe didn't expect Abella to know him so well. Indeed, he couldn't sleep well before Abella came back, always worrying if she was in danger or needed his help.
Abella naturally guessed this. "If I see dark circles under your eyes tomorrow, I won't see you for three days."
"I'll sleep," Phillipe immediately said, "I'll definitely sleep well tonight."
"No more staying up late."
"I'll sleep with the sachet you gave me," Phillipe promised, "You need to sleep too. If I see dark circles under your eyes tomorrow, I'll beat Raymond."
"Deal." Abella laughed. Even if she stayed up all night, she wouldn't have dark circles, thanks to the medicine she had been taking all along.
"Take care, and call me if anything happens." Phillipe reluctantly gave a few more reminders before hanging up.
Since Abella was just outside, not far away, Carol heard the conversation. Unconsciously, she thought of that person in her mind again.
The pronunciation of the person's name also contained the sound of the letter "W."
Carol smiled bitterly, thinking, 'How could I automatically think of that man's face whenever someone mentioned that name?
'I miss him so much to think of him at every moment?
'I wonder if he is doing well now.'
When Abella came back into the room, she heard the girl turning over and was a bit surprised. "Still awake?"
"Yes, I can't sleep."
After sitting down, Abella asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
Hearing this, Abella smiled and said, "Eavesdropping on my call?"
"The place is small. Although you spoke softly, it's quiet at night..." Perhaps it had been too long since anyone talked to her, so Carol let down her guard and smiled, "You and your boyfriend seem to have a good relationship?"
Carol thought, 'If I wasn't mistaken, Abella was calling her boyfriend to report her safety.'
"Yes, it's alright," Abella casually asked, "What about you? Do you have a boyfriend?"
"I used to."
Carol thought of that man's handsome face again.
"Used to?"
Abella understood; they were no longer together.
"I bring bad luck to those around me," Carol said self-deprecatingly, "So, I can't meet you face to face."
She didn't want to bring deadly trouble to Abella.
"Sometimes I just want to live like a normal person."
But if she stayed alive, she would only bring endless disaster to those around her.
For instance, Raymond had been hiding with her for a year.
Her most loyal subordinates had died horribly, one by one.
Her adoptive parents had also suffered because of her.
When Carol was in a relationship, it was in secret. When she left, she cut off all contact with that person. She really hadn't contacted him since.
That person had a noble status and rarely went home, so the organization didn't find him.
They only hurt the defenseless people around her.
When her parents were tied up, Carol saw the news and wanted to save them, but she was powerless.
At that time, the poison was acting up, and she could barely take care of herself, let alone return to the country. She didn't even have the strength to get out of bed.
Raymond was seriously injured protecting her and almost died before her.
So, they could only watch helplessly as her adoptive parents were tortured.
The blood on the ground was something Carol would never forget.
Thinking of this, Carol clenched her fists. Although it was difficult with her strength alone, if the poison could be completely cured, she vowed to destroy the entire organization and live a normal life.
She was determined to be free from the mercy of the organization.
"The people around you don't see you that way. I believe they all like you and are willing to fight alongside you, just like Raymond, who has always been by your side."
Abella's words left the girl a bit stunned.
Abella continued, "So, you must survive and live well. Show everyone that you are not someone who brings bad luck."
Carol was moved again.
Perhaps because of her special status, no one had ever said such things to her all these years.
