Chapter 953 Standing By and Doing Nothing

In the basement of the Long Island Manor, Steven and Dennis stood in front of the surveillance monitor, watching Abella's precise movements with the scalpel. They couldn't help but marvel at her exceptional medical skills and psychological resilience.

Any ordinary girl would be terrified in such a situation.

But Abella remained calm and composed, like a seasoned doctor with decades of experience.

She was confident, beautiful, smart, and capable.

It was incredible that such a girl was their sister. They felt lucky to have her in the Medici family.

To avoid disturbing Abella during the autopsy, they waited quietly by the monitor until she finished.

"Who would've thought Abella is a true prodigy, capable of anything?" Dennis said as Abella walked out of the room. He ruffled her hair affectionately. "Tired? I'll make you some tea."

"Good job," Steven said, surprised that Abella had finished so quickly. Seeing her smile, he knew she had found some clues.

"Steven, Dennis, let's talk upstairs," Abella said, concerned about eavesdroppers. She instructed two servants to keep watch outside Jacob's room.

The servants were a bit scared, having to guard a dead body and worry about it decomposing.

"I used some chemicals earlier; it won't rot for a week," Abella reassured them. "Don't let anyone in except us."

"Yes, Ms. Medici." Despite their fear, they would follow Abella's instructions to the letter.

As Abella left the basement, her phone vibrated again.

It was an unknown number.

She had no intention of answering until she saw that the number had called her 11 times. Soon, the 12th call came through.

She finally picked up, her voice indifferent. "Who is this?"

"Abella, it's Henry."

Afraid she might hang up, Henry quickly added, "Please don't hang up..."

"I'm not going to save her," Abella said bluntly, guessing the purpose of the call.

Henry sounded desperate. "Abella, I know Lola has done many terrible things to you. I have no right to ask you for anything, but the doctors are helpless..."

His voice choked up.

"They said Lola's wound is severely infected, the bacteria have entered her bloodstream, causing systemic infection and organ failure. Can you help? I'm begging you. I'll give you anything you want if you save her."

He was willing to offer his savings, shares, resources—anything he had.

"What I want, I can get on my own. Besides, I have my family and Phillipe. There's nothing in this world I can't obtain," Abella replied confidently. "You have no value to me. You asked the wrong person. I won't help you. Whether she lives or dies is none of my concern."

Henry hadn't expected her to be so resolute. He pleaded, "Abella, I'll agree to any condition if you save her."

"I know Lola didn't treat you well when you came back to the Medici family. She provoked and hurt you over and over. She was wrong."

"I know saying sorry a thousand times won't make up for the harm she caused you, but I can't watch her die. Please, Abella, you can take it out on me. Make me beg on my knees, crawl if you want, just save her." Henry's voice was thick with emotion. "The doctors said her body's normal functions, metabolism, and tissue structure are all damaged. I'm out of options."

Abella responded coolly, "I gave her many chances before. She didn't cherish them. She tried to kill me multiple times. Who saved me then?"

If she hadn't been vigilant, Abella might have died at Lola's hands many times over.

"Her condition isn't a big problem for me, but I won't save her," Abella said coldly. "Even if you beg on your knees or crawl, it won't change anything. The problem is with her."

If Lola hadn't been so malicious from the start, Abella might have saved her.

But Lola had been cruel enough to want Abella disfigured and dead.

Why did she save someone like that?

Abella ended the call without further discussion.

Steven and Dennis were concerned. "Was that Henry?"

"He has the nerve to ask you for help?" Dennis wanted to punch him.

"He must be desperate to come to me," Abella said, feeling a bit sorry for him.

"His devotion is misplaced," Steven said, thinking Lola wasn't worth his efforts.

"She's been sick for so long and still hasn't died? Is Henry out of his mind? Saving someone like her will only bring trouble," Dennis said, baffled by Henry's foolishness.

"Who he likes and wants to save is his business," Abella said, not wanting to comment further.

When they reached their parents, Abella shared her findings.

"Let's review the timeline Henry gave Mom and Dad," Abella said calmly.

"He left our house the night before, brought seven or eight doctors to his place, and by dawn, he sent them away. Through the doctors, he let Jacob know that Lola was too injured to be treated. Shortly after, a stranger contacted him."

Kimberly and Beckett nodded. "Yes, that's what Henry told us."

"Jacob must have been nearby and trusted Henry. He arrived at Henry's place around noon or early afternoon."

"Henry said his men knocked Jacob out. Jacob's head indeed shows signs of being hit, and he was sedated to capture Jacob. My autopsy revealed Jacob inhaled a large amount of sedatives, but..." Abella looked at everyone. "The sedatives only cause a two to three-hour coma. Jacob should have woken up before sunset. Henry could have brought him here right after knocking him out. Why wait until after 8 PM? What happened during that time? Did Jacob wake up? Did they discuss something? We don't know."
