Chapter 663 Asking Abella for Forgiveness
"Why?" Maria sobbed. "Ever since she came back, Ms. Lola Medici's been totally ignored. I just couldn't take it, so I..."
Steven's voice got icy. "Did Lola have anything to do with this?"
"No, no, it was all me from the start, nothing to do with Ms. Lola Medici! She's so pure and kind, if she knew, she'd have stopped me for sure!" Maria cried. "Mr. Steven Medici, please believe me, I know I messed up!"
"Who else knows about this?" Steven asked, still cold.
"Just me and Ms. Abella Medici," Maria cried. "She promised she wouldn't say anything."
"She doesn't," Steven replied.
Maria looked up, startled.
"I was just asking," Steven said coolly, "didn't think you'd spill so fast."
Maria stood there, stunned, realizing Steven had tricked her!
Steven added, "If Abella had gotten hurt, you wouldn't just be facing a big payout. The Medici family's lawyers would come after you hard. They'd sue you into the ground and make sure you end up in jail."
Maria shivered, fully believing the Medici family had that kind of power!
"Mr. Steven Medici."
"Pack your stuff tonight and leave. Tomorrow, I don't want to see you."
"No, Mr. Steven Medici."
Seeing Steven about to leave, Maria grabbed his leg, not caring about her dignity, and begged, "Mr. Steven Medici, please give me another chance. I've thought of everyone in the Medici family as my own. I don't want to leave, I want to serve you all until I'm old. I want to see Ms. Lola Medici get married, have kids, become a mom. Please, Mr. Steven Medici, give me another chance."
"Another chance to hurt Ms. Abella Medici?" Lauren, who'd been hiding upstairs, couldn't take it anymore and stormed down.
"Lauren? What are you doing here?" Maria saw her and felt embarrassed, still clinging to Steven's leg.
Lauren replied, "You sent everyone away so they wouldn't see you make a fool of yourself. Luckily, Mr. Steven Medici saw through your act. Today, with Mr. Steven Medici here, I'm telling him everything I know!"
Steven listened, wondering what else he didn't know.
Lauren added, "Mr. Steven Medici, Maria's been targeting Ms. Abella Medici since day one. She acts all sweet, calling her Ms. Abella Medici, but behind your back, she doesn't even acknowledge her! She treats her like dirt! It's like she thinks she's the boss here!"
Steven's eyes turned icy as he looked at Maria.
Lauren said angrily, "If Ms. Lola Medici and Ms. Abella Medici eat together, she only serves Ms. Lola Medici, totally ignoring Ms. Abella Medici, and makes all sorts of nasty comments to make things hard for her! When I'm nice to Ms. Abella Medici, she gives me trouble too!"
"When did I ever mess with you?" Maria snapped. "Mr. Steven Medici, don't believe her, she's just making stuff up!"
Lauren shot back, "Who pushed me on purpose when I was coming downstairs, trying to make me fall? Who dirtied the floor right after I cleaned it? Who dumped trash on my bed? Used my toothbrush to clean other things? Who put all sorts of junk in my body wash and shampoo? You've caused so much trouble! You even dragged Ms. Lola Medici into making things hard for me!"
"Got any proof? Without evidence, you're just slandering me! I can sue you!" Maria retorted.
Steven saw them bickering and coldly cut in, "Enough."
Maria and Lauren immediately shut up, glaring daggers at each other.
Steven looked at Maria. "If you didn't do it, Lauren couldn't have made up so much on the spot."
"Mr. Steven Medici, I swear I'm innocent."
Maria wanted to say more, but Steven interrupted, "I can have someone investigate. If they find anything, leaving the Medici family will be the least of your worries. Your choice."
Maria hung her head, knowing she was busted. "Mr. Steven Medici, I'll leave."
"Abella is my sister. Before you leave this house, if you don't get her forgiveness, not only will the Medici family have no place for you, but neither will Empire Vista City."
Maria was stunned, not expecting Steven to banish her from Empire Vista City too.
Lauren felt relieved, grateful that Steven saw through Maria's lies.
"Remember, apologize sincerely." Steven left after saying this.
"Yes, I understand." Maria watched him leave, glaring at Lauren.
Lauren raised an eyebrow.
Half an hour later.
Abella had just gotten home when Lola rushed over, hugging her arm, crying and begging, "Abella, please forgive Maria. Whether it's docking her pay or making her do extra work, just don't let her leave this house!"
Maria stood to the side, tears streaming down her face, choking out, "Ms. Abella Medici." But her throat hurt too much to say another word.
She had just packed her bags and wanted to say goodbye to Lola. When Lola heard that Steven was going to fire her, she immediately went to beg him.
But Steven had made up his mind, so Lola came to Abella when she heard she was back.
Abella roughly understood what was going on. Steven must have suspected something and went to punish Maria.
"Maria, come over and apologize to Abella!" Lola cried.
Maria stood in front of Abella, asking for forgiveness, "Ms. Abella Medici, I was confused that time. I don't want to make excuses for myself, I was indeed wrong! I did something bad, and I don't dare to ask for your forgiveness right now. I just hope I can slowly atone for my sins in the days to come. Please don't make me leave."
"Abella, please forgive Maria!" Lola cried and begged Abella.
Abella was speechless. 'It is Steven who wants to fire them, and they come to beg me? Is it because Steven wouldn't agree? Since Steven wouldn't agree, why should me?'
"I'll make sure Maria stays far away from you from now on, okay? If you both appear on the same path, I'll make sure Maria steps aside!" Lola added.
